Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just read on Netweather that snow (no doubt sleet) being reported in Co. Derry and Co. Tyrone. In Tyrone, report is from somebody at 600ft - report could be from OwenC in Derry! :pac:

There were some extremely vicious gusts here in Galway City together with torrential burst of rain, all coninciding with that red band as it moved West to East. It's calmed down a fair bit now though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,520 ✭✭✭✭dsmythy

The line seems to be a five minute job. An impressive five minutes no doubt.

I have recorded wind speeds of 70 mph so far today in Galway, torrential rain, roads flooded and leaves coming off trees like large snow flakes.

Nice gust of wind there here in Swords. Has got a few house/car alarms going.

It's like dusk here in dundalk right now....grey leaden skies and wind has increased significantly...whhoooah, whistly in chimney now and rumble/howl of gust.

    Teeming with rain.

[edit] Just increased to squall level there for about a minute.

I think so, but his mother wasn't! :D

Saw OwenC posting somewhere else on Boards recently, I think in the Aviation forum, so obviously not banned from Boards.

Castlederg reporting 3c (and heavy rain) at 1400. Pretty impressive temps for middle of the day in mid-October.

Clear blue sky overhead here with rain blowing in the wind. Nice double rainbow!

Going from reports on Facebook from friends it's actually snowing in Derry and also on the Glenshane Pass...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,520 ✭✭✭✭dsmythy

Gone quite quiet in Swords right now. A true calm before the event.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,909 ✭✭✭✭Wertz

That line on the dioppler is impressive...raintoday's highest rainfall levels over much of N Louth the past 15 min, and they're spot on judging by how I can barely see out the window.

Line very well defined again on 1500 ME radar.

Hopefully it stays like that. These features have a tendancy to break up near Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,333 ✭✭✭Saganist

Not far off Dublin now. The howl has subsided.. Must really be the calm before the storm.. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,684 ✭✭✭Darwin

Squall line just passing overhead now, very impressive how you could visibly see the front as it approached. Seems to be brightening up behind it very quickly though?

Quieter here too at the moment, less frequent gusts, although as I type light rain is falling and breeze has increased to strong again. Squall line now about 20kms from me, showing embedded downpours, dont think ive seen the 16+ mm/hr colour from the new radar resolution before!

Darkness is falling here in Maynooth as I type.... Started to rain properly a few minutes ago and wind picking up. And rain just started to come down seriously hard.

Wife reports its raining hard in Drogheda.

Can I ask what sat feed are you lot looking at for live data? I would like to see if this will clear up for my motorbike ride home.

Based on what I can see on http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ it looks pretty serious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,322 ✭✭✭✭leahyl

It seems to be moving slowly - I'm afraid that when it finally reaches Cork it'll be nothing more than a heavy mist:(

I can literally see it now out the window approaching Swords. Immense dark clouds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,369 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Things have changed utterley in the past 15 mins, wind has shifted due west and become sustained strong, the squall line has hit and is torrential, has to be 10mm/hr rate at the moment, though may not last for long, surface water gone from nothing to inundating the drains in about the same time
