Looks like an unlucky start for Connacht distillery in Ballina. Was broken into last night. Unsure of damage or if anything stolen. Alarm was going good-o earlier with a security company trying to knock it off.

Inda only opened it yesterday.

A unique estate such as WH should not be bundled up with all the shopping centres etc so that only a buyer with billions can bid.

If it has to be sold, imho it should be sold on it's own. That would give a better chance of a purchaser who might carry on the development and promotion done by the late Jeremy Altamount and his family over the last 50 years

Any update on the meeting re Westport house? Is there a plan to save it? Who spoke at meeting and many at it?

There was only 6 counties in the whole country that had less IDA visits than Mayo. Mayo has a very sizeable population, a collage campus its own Gas and Electric supply the landing point for the fastest transatlantic network connection anywhere and a reasonably internationally connected airport, yet 2 visits is all they could muster.

Waterford with a population of 40 thousand less than Mayo had 19 visits v Mayo's 2. All of Connacht had less than Limerick and Clare where you can see Michael Noonans influence again and again.

This is a shocking reflection on the Taoiseach and the minister on their disregard for their own constituency. As somebody who mistakenly voted for Enda Kenny in the last election it would be an embarrassment if he is re-elected. He has completely let down his own constituency and community his brother by association should also be on the chopping block.

It also has to reflect very badly on the Mayo enterprise board what exactly are they been paid to do......

How can we expect new jobs in Mayo if we are not even on the list to be considered.

You can't show businesses to places that don't exist. No office space in mayo.

Above post is too negative regarding Mayo and Mayo people

Often it is politicians and would-be politicians who complain. Many small business people just get on with it.

There are many cases in Mayo of small firms starting up and creating jobs

E.g Kellys in Newport becoming a national brand in blackpudding

Artisan cheesemakers in Carraholly and elsewhere

Local people along the Westport - Achill Greenway have responded to the influx of visitors there by opening cafés etc serving the route

McHales started in farm machinery in Kilmaine about 40 years ago. Now a big enterprise

Tom Murphy Castlebar started Pamex ( total shaving solutions etc ) about 20 years ago. Started by importing it from US, now being made in Mayo

A man called Noone in Belmullet has developed innovative systems of controlling public lighting, and has developed export markets for it.

There are several firms exporting shellfish and other fish based products

Allergan started in a small way in Westport in 1975, about 25 workers making what the Californian founders called "aqueous eye solutions" When this was translated into English as eye-drops there was a feeling around the county that it had not great potential. It grew from strength to strength, now about a 1000 here make all the Botox for the world outside USA and Canada

It's development was helped by the fact that Westport had a long established industrial tradition. The local authority and local community were used to working with industry

One would expect a higher rate of start ups in Cork for all the obvious reasons, but Mayo people have not done too badly

Good news for Ballinrobe with a business moving into the Irish Pride bakery premises

There was a rumor that it was going to be used to house refugees? I don't see how it could given its condition but that's rumors for ya!
