Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    longford have a white shirt

Both Wicklow's and Longford's change of jersey is white.

    http://wicklowgaaonline.com/2010/06/17/cavan-v-wicklow-time-to-stand-up/

Wicklow do have the option of a gold jersey with blue trim or a provincial jersey of green as a third choice. Longford would also have the choice of wearing provincial green. Something similar to the O'Neills Saint Patrick's Day 'green range' of jerseys.

    http://www.oneills.com/shop-by-team/go-green-2013/go-green-county-jerseys/wicklow-gaa-green-jersey.html

    http://www.oneills.com/shop-by-team/gaa/leinster/longford-gaa/longford-gaa-green-jersey-2013.html

By right Longford should wear white as they are the visiting team and Wicklow should wear blue as they are the home team, so to speak. The G.A.A. however, seem to insist on both teams changing when a clash of jersey colours occurs.

When Cavan played Longford in 2011 qualifiers in Cavan, Cavan wore white and Longford wore their usual blue jersies.

But the previous year Cavan played Wicklow in the championship in Cavan and Cavan wore blue with Wicklow wearing white.

There are plenty of other instances of this - that is what led me to believe it was decided by a toss of a coin

New Monaghan home (white) and away (blue) jerseys

What will they have for the Wicklow Longford game this weekend?

I dont believe ive seen these teams in an away kit, has anyone?

Last year Longford wore blue vs Laois who wore white when the 1st round of the championship was played in Pearse Park.

This is the jersey I'd imagine Longford will be wearing on Sunday as the away team -

Up close picture of it on the Monaghan GAA website. Seems to have a similar chequered pattern on the sleeves as the Dublin and Galway shirts.

Dublin and Galway have hexagons, it's Meath who have a checkered pattern like that

I'd be very surprised if it was anything other than one team in blue and the other in white.

The other solution would be to do what was done in 2001:

Im glad Vodafone have legged it! The red logo on dubs jersey looked crap. Hopefully we get a new big sponser whose logo will look better..from a completely superficial point of view of course!! Speaking of which, so glad I won't have to wear the new Meath jersey..

Honeycomb effect on those jersey's. Chequered on the new Monaghan.

Both counties have the same 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice jersey colours and the choice of provincial colours too.

Maybe one can wear green and the other pink. Ha..ha!

It will be a toss of a coin. We will soon know by throw-in tomorrow.

Limerick wearing blue at Croker today

That blue Limerick jersey is $hit hot. Pity it'll hardly be seen again.

Wicklow more the new change shirt featured here, albeit with white shorts

Just saw this on the Oneills site.. tasty jersey. The meath "supporters jersey"... Blue and green goes well

A jersey purely to tie in with sponsors colours. What exactly even is a "supporters jersey"? Does it mean one that will never see the light of match day, but O'Neills can still flog for €62?

Like other codes, counties should be require to submit a primary and secondary kit to the GAA each January, and the GAA logo shouldn't be allowed on any other jersey for that year.

Its a good point. I see that the GAA logo isnt on the green paddy's day jerseys. Not sure if there's a difference in price with those though?

I agree, what is the point in this blue jersey? Clearly a money racket. Why choose blue for Meath anyway? It makes no sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,778 ✭✭✭Big Pussy Bonpensiero

There doesn't need to be a point. O' Neills are trying to make an extra few bob and who could blame them. Don't see why it bothers anyone, if you don't like it, well then, just don't buy it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 367 ✭✭EIRE1922

You need to realise the profit they are already making on those jerseys.

I see Dublin have gone without Vodafone's sponsorship tonight. Ended their deal with Vodafone earlier than expected and before the end of this year's championship, as said by Vodafone. They Dublin County Board did right.

I thought the offay kit was nice. Love the fitted shirts with no collars

A lot of the jerseys are class this year in fairness.

Have to agree, collars on the player fit jerseys doesn't look right. I notice Kilkenny have never opted for the player fit?

The Kilkenny players would not fit into them! All big strong physical hurlers. :D

They are better off with the loose ones in my opinion.
The reason being, that when an opponent pulls them back it easier for the ref to spot it, and so kk will pick up some soft frees

    Kilkenny and soft frees?????

    Really??
Been getting them for years. And referees afraid to give frees against them

Good luck getting a fist of a player fit jersey to pull in the first place.

Utter nonsense! I bet you would not say that to any of the Kilkenny team or management either!

Anyway, lets stick to comments/postings on the jerseys!

    I would.
"Brian, what about all those soft frees you get? And yet your players get away with blind murder..."

    Brian:
"Well, as you know hurling is a game for real men and there should really be no rules. We play on the edge and we don't wear fitted jerseys so the ref can clearly see the foul on the Kilkenny players..."

I thought it was usually purple, and if it was blue i'd imagine it would be royal blue and not sky blue, the tayto park logo is the same colurs as the jersey, so i'd agree it's a money racket to keep sponsors happy, Meath will never wear it, if their jersey clashes i'd be nearly certain they'lll wear yellow

Novel idea for a person who has divided loyalties.

Of course only available for O'Neills supplied counties.

Wonder will they do the same county but half the home and half the away kit?

  • Registered Users Posts: 367 ✭✭EIRE1922

What a waste of a good Kilkenny jersey. You are either a Kilkenny man or a Tipperary man. There should be no confusion at all! Ha..ha!

It's purple in some counties - Ireland, UK, etc. and blue in others - Italy , France, etc.

Just paid 62 euro for a new Clare jersey. Jesus. Hope to get some use out of it over the next few years. The old one is a bit tight, must of shrunk in the wash !!!

Really only maybe wearable on the day of a match/attending a match between the two counties in question but wearing one of these 'casually' as you go about your day to day business just looks terrible but thats my opinion and thats for whatever two counties not just Tipp/Kilkenny.

I see a guy wearing a Tipp/Dublin one regularly and to me he just looks ridiculous. Grand wearing it to a match between the two sides but to wear it casually is just wrong on so many levels

Wexford "away" jersey, and Wexford minor jersey. According to the wexford gaa's twitter the juvenile board pick their own jersey style, which IMO is nicer than the seniors!

It does not make sense the minors wearing a different jersey to the seniors. Nah, the senior is nicer. Should be yellow bellies anyway. Ha..ha!

I was surprised at the change of jersey against Antrim. I thought Wexford usually switch to wearing white. An unusual choice of all purple.

  • Registered Users Posts: 753 ✭✭✭denishurley

They wore the purple as far back as 2010: http://www.prideinthejersey.com/wexford.html
