Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

When I was a small kid I used want to drive a silage harvester or tractor then it moved on to wanting to be Garda.
    Didn’t end up doing either.
Whilst the Gardai weren’t recruiting when I left school. I’d have been to shy for it anyway at the time.

What did you want to be when you were small?

I followed up this up with absolutely no classes or attempt to become one.
Still go to Cinema and think 'how hard can it really be' :pac:

When i could not be a gynecologist. I wanted to be a gigolo, when none of the above worked. Well I ended up a wanker. After a bit of contemplation I realise pussy ruined my life. In a good way I think

So did I. I did a few stage schools during my primary years and applied to drama schools in the UK but I have zero talent so it wasn't to be.

A stunt man - like Colt Seavers.

Most likely because Jody Banks was always around his place jumping in and out of his hot tub.

if you loved acting could you not go back to amateur acting. Before the covid thing started their were few places looking for actors/actresses. Acting is not all about the fame, its about immersing yourself in something different.

You're never to old not to chase dreams.

When the covid is over try go back to acting. In regards to how hard it can be. Its fu¢king boring. I was a researcher/producer on a couple of short docs, for dc/tv & near/tv a few years ago, and a lot of it is sitting around. A friend of mine done a six minute short skit. It took almost 8 hrs to shoot. To be honest its wasnt that good and it ended up being binned

I too wanted to be one when I was a kid.
Honestly a large part of me still thinks it's not that hard :p

Have bottle and believe in what you're saying to be true.
I think what adds to belief of "acting is hard" is all the bs actors say... Oh like to prepare for this role I spent 4 months working in a mental institution to get more of a sense of my characters blah blah blah :pac:

You got the script. You went over it a hundred times and said your lines a thousand times in front of the mirror lol. Sure you also did your homework but it's not like you spent thousands of hours researching like some professor lol.

Jodie Foster said it best after winning the academy award for silence of the lambs. She had imposter syndrome and thought everyone was gonna catch on to her being a bad actress (in her mind) and they were gonna take the award away.

Either Barbie or a Disney Princess. Preferably the latter, since I was quite keen on having a horse-drawn carriage in the shape of a pumpkin as a means of everyday transport.

Obviously I was very environmentally conscious as a child.

    Airline pilot.
Then I realized I hate long flights, people from other countries, people from this country, sitting down, etc

Bus drivers have to navigate traffic and react instantaneously. Modern air line pilots press a few buttons and the plane flies itself.

I don't want to drive a bus either.

I was just reminded of this when I saw the kids at the zoo on the news.
I vividly remember wanting to be a penguin when at the zoo. The reason was because penguins swam a lot. I liked swimming.

But then I learnt that penguins eat fish and I didn't like fish.
    So that presented a problem.

So then I wanted to be a carpenter because they get to use hammers and saws. Plus hammers and saws are cool. Plus I learnt in religion that Jesus was a carpenter so that convinced me. Plus I was given a small toolkit by my granny so I was sorted (It was aimed at kids little saw and hammer - but actually worked - not sure it would pass health and safety these days) .

But then Barry McGuigan won the boxing so I wanted to be a boxer. Plus I had a dressing gown so I could do a boxing ring entrance.

Plus later I learnt the chorus of this song

However, I quickly changed my mind again. Boris Becker was on the telly and won Wimbledon. Boris had red hair. In my mind, that meant I could be a tennis player too.

I think I want to be a penguin again, I could learn to like fish. :D

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I wanted to be a pilot, why ? Not in any particular order...

    - the money was very good.

    - you’d be paid back then to overnight with your mates / colleagues in nice hotels in nice cites and get fed, entertained, basically seeing the world, enjoying the world and getting paid for it.

    - it wasn’t quite as humdrum as an office gig and if you didn’t particularly like the person you were working with, next week you get paired with somebody else and you might not see the dislikable person for months.

It’s not ‘quite’ as glamorous now, overnights are far and few between now, the likes of Ryanair and easyjet have influenced a nosedive in pay and conditions unless you are working for the likes of some of the ‘legacy’ carriers or on an older contract.

When I was around six, I wanted to be a builder. We were having an extension built onto our house at the time and I found the whole process fascinating. I loved playing with the wet cement, stealing bucket-loads of it and filling in cracks and potholes in the driveway. I also loved the way a large part of the job seemed to involve drinking mugs of tea, eating biscuits and swearing at annoying children.

When I became less small, I wanted to be a writer. I had a bash at it too, but lacked the requisite skills (despite knowing words like requisite) to earn a decent living. It's not as simple as being able to write good... you need to be able to sell yourself and your work in a way that never rested easily with me.
