    Carbon tax increase on home heating oil is deferred until May same as it was last year.

    I called 3 suppliers today to order 500 ltr kerosene,

    Corrib Oil = 245e
    Cosgrave = 245e
    Naughtons = 239e

    all prices inc. VAT
    so I went with Naughtons, my regular supplier, happy with that price.

    Just to provide an update - prices as of yesterday for 1,000 litres of kerosene delivered to the two houses mentioned above (500 litres per household).

    Estuary oil - 60c a litre including VAT
    Feenagh oil - 59c a litre including VAT
    Feale oil - 58c a litre including VAT

    Went with Feale oil in the end, they delivered today. I do not believe any of the providers around the Limerick city area will deliver out this far.

    Naughtons - 300

    Ordered in last few days also - Cosgraves were best value around.....For 1000L they were 56c - was a whole 60 Euro cheaper than one of the other Limerick based Companies.

    Whatever you do don't just buy from same Company each time.......

    Didn’t need much Kero to keep the central heating going for hopefully just a while more before the warmer days so decided not to buy in bulk. Instead I bought a couple of drums worth from Tara Oil on the Dock Rd. At 70.1c/L. I was happy seeing as oil has shot up dramatically in the last few weeks. Cheaper than the filling station on the Old Cork Rd (80.9c) and Texaco on the Roxbury Rd (77.1c).
    Might be an option for some.

    Jaysis, that's eye-watering

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jonski

    He just delivered it there, I was expecting him to have someone riding shotgun ............. with an actual shotgun .

    It won't be long before we insist on it being delivered in a plain white van under cover of darkness for fear of it being robbed :D

    Its now a case of buy now save later the same as the fellow that stocked up on cheap booze before the price hike.

    Filled up in jan after waiting for the December omicron falls in price failed to be passed on to the customer in Limerick at least.

    If you have enough for the remaining months, I'd leave it to next season to buy. Too risky to have a full tank over the summer months at these elevated prices.

    Lots of supply was switched off during the price collapse over covid, these high prices may bring alot of that back online. How long that takes? I don't know

    Just said I'd have a quick look at kerosene prices this morning. I haven't had a chance to ring around yet. I know there are much more serious consequences people are suffering right now because of the whole situation but that is some jump in a month.

    Corrib 500l €735.03

    This time (ish) last year

    I've been watching CoribOil's website for the past few months - which is now at 109.26CPL, so 620.05 for 500L today FYI

    This site is handy for tracking oil prices too:

    I ordered a fill of oil today (Id guessed my tank was about half full and didnt want to wait until winter to refill as prices may have gone even higher then) and it turned out I needed 625 lts kerosene, the cost was 775 euros, so 1.24 per litre. Ouch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,293 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

    I got a few prices today for 500 litres of kerosene delivered:

    Corrib - 620

    The price of kerosene being delivered to the home hasn't come down in line with pertol. Petrol was around €2.15 per litre and now around €1.85, so a 40c drop which is around 20%.

    kerosene had hit a make of €670 for 500l (where i am anyway) and if the same drop is to be applied then it should now be around €540 but it's not, it's still €620.

    What gives?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,974 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

    There is definitely price gouging going on. In our area Diesel is 1.89/L, in around Limerick city it's 1.84 but the young lad in Dublin says it below 1.8 in a good few places.

    So diesel should be lower than that even .
