Hi All, totally in the dark when it comes to this but was wondering about 3 aircraft that passed over my house near Newcastle West yesterday. Took a pic as I thought it odd. Seemed to be a passenger plane flanked my two smaller planes or jets. One 4 engine and Two 2 engines Im guessing.Any ideas?

I'd say it was just a busy day over the N.Atlantic.

The bigger aircraft looks like an Airbus A340 or a B 747-8 and the other two smaller craft may be private jets like a Gulfstream or even a Boeing 757 or similar, all three being at different altitudes from about 33,000 ft. to 41,000 ft.

Sometimes on clear days, the crowding of the N.Atlantic tracks becomes apparent from the ground. All fairly normal flight paths I'd say.

By the way, what camera/lens did you use for the shot of the 4-engine craft? Nice clear resolution.

What time did you see them overfly?

We can try identify them on Flight Radar 24 playback.....

It arrived yesterday as flight AF51 from Venice
Tracking it on: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/ei-fwa/ - FR24 is slowly filling in info for it (e.g. photo)

    Greetings everyone,
I hope its not inappropriate to ask this here:

I used to have the free version of Flightradar24 on an Android phone. It was brilliant, as I could switch on the camera and the app would overlay the details of any planes in the view.

then I went and bought a Windows phone. THe camera doesn't work, even though I upgraded to the paid for version of the App. Can anyone suggest if there's a fix. I won't be going back to Android ever, before anyone offers that particular solution :-). <=== that's meant to be a smiley, but as you can see, I'm pretty new to this so haven't mastered Boards smileys yet.

    cheers
    Nick

That feature is only compatible with certain types of phones, it didn't work on my old Android but it now works on my new iPhone. I'm not sure which requirements it needs to work. What model of Windows Phone did you get?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭NickNickleby

    Hi Lockheed,
    thanks for your reply.
I got the Lumia 535, free on a contract. I got a pain with my Xperia constantly freezing due to a memory problem which I discovered was a 'feature' of Android os. My Windows phone does everything I want - except the Camera function in flightradar24.

I looked at the support pages for the app, but I'm afraid they're not very good. I might fire off an email and ask them to rewrite the app to make it compatible with my phone. Yeah, that'll work alright.

    Cheers
    Nick

Does Flight Radar subscription offer more options as far as seeing planes. Just saw a DC-9 with a livery fly into Cork but nothing on the map or Corks arrivals?

Probably the Volotea B717 (looks like a DC9). You can see it now on the return leg of the journey.

And you won't for long, they're being replaced by boring 'buses.

Publically because the A319 offers better support and more pilot candidates but it's also rumoured that the founders of Volotea, ex-Vueling chaps, are positioning for an IAG buy-out and a common plug-and-play fleet helps with that.

Runway currently blocked by a light aircraft at Cork, aircraft now in the hold.

Light aircraft has now been towed off runway. EI-GWY

Any reason as to why it couldn't vacate the runway itself?

Went into the grass by the 17/07 intersection.

Any idea what caused this? Just listened to the playback and the pilot requested a full stop instead of touch and go at fairly short notice.

Cessna 210 EI-CGH seems to have become very active over the past couple of weeks, heading back and forth to the UK each day.

Its a Sony DSCHX50 30X Optical Zoom. Its only a point and shoot :)

CGH is a lovely aircraft, it and EI-BUF are long term abbeyshrule residents and can be seen just about anywhere often bringing people to rugby games.both built in 1979 and are the N model of the 210
