Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Clearly I wasn't paying much attention over the winter, what the hell is Jimmie Johnson doing in IndyCar? :L

Decent race more for strategy than all out overtaking action. Some drive by Palou didn't see him pulling off such a impressive performance to win this early with Ganassi. Solid drive by Grosjean on his debut to finish 10th

Unfortunately he's not doing the ovals sounds like the wife decided that. Some Nascar drivers including him over the years said they would like to do Indycar races and with the exception of Kurt Busch doing Indy in 2014 none have stepped up but Johnson really meant his words. Huge learning curve for him in this tough field but he did well to get the laps in and finish the race yesterday, maybe 10 years ago in his prime this venture into Indycar might have been easier for him

Ah ****e. Favorite race of the season and I'll not be able to watch it.

Any idea what's happening. Nothing on screen yet for qualifying.

Cancelled due to weather apparently. Grid set according to championship standings. That's weird as they showed the track earlier and looked like a nice sunny day there.

Imagine an F1 race like that, be brilliant!

Is Grosjean not doing oval tracks!?

He's just doing track and street races this year. Think fittipaldi replaces him on ovals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,684 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

I understand he's only doing road courses this year. I think the ovals would be risky for him considering the speeds. I'm not sure why I said that!?

Hefty hit for Bourdais. Newgarden gave him a little punt inadvertently as cars were checking up.

Mclaughlin having a very good race so far.

This Texas surface is beyond a joke, genuinely a danger for these drivers aswell as crap racing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,684 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

Are you talking about the traction compound for NASCAR. I agree, no benefit for Indycar if there's no extra grip up high leaving only one racing line.

Dixon had a strong race. Managed it very well without any risks being taken. The Hondas seemed to have better high speed throughout.

Oh, right, yea, kinda forgot you guys here might not have been in the loop. So it pissed it down overnight Friday and took forever to dry the track on Saturday (Texas humidity not helping), so practice was delayed by two hours and qualifying was cancelled; meaning both races are set by entrant points - however, race 2 tonight is based on those points after last night.

    Jesus what a smash..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,044 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

I wouldn't entirely blame Fittipaldi's inexperience for that, they were too bunched up at the start for last nights race, do it again and there's the risk you'll get a mess like this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,044 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

It didn't even make the Nascar races any better, I'm astounded Texas Motor Speedway didn't bother to clear it off for two Indycar races can't see today's race being any better than last nights procession, they are probably not bothered about Indycar returning with the mediocre attendances

I'm a relative new comer to indycar if someone could answer this for me please. Last few races Herta has been in a Gainbridge car. Tonight he's in a Capstone. Is this purely a sponsor change for this particular race or whats the story!?

Nevermind, 100 laps later and he's finally on camera still in the yellow and black gainbridge. I must have misheard the commentary when they were talking about it earlier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,710 ✭✭✭Joeseph Balls

So O'Ward will be testing the McLaren F1 car at the end of the season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,044 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

Gwan Pato roll on McLaren F1 test :)

Great win for O'Ward! I know other people have called the races boring but I throughly enjoyed Portugal and the 2 in Texas.

Alot of the cars are rotating different sponsors nowadays in US racing, same in NASCAR. Capstone were his sponsors under the Harding/Steinbrenner team for the previous two seasons so probably an associate sponsor this season

Which one? There's been several airport courses. 😛

StPete still runs (airport front stretch), but Cleveland and Edmonton don't anymore.

    Thank you, it was Cleveland

Overtaking was great and they had a mad close finish one year.

Cleveland - fantastic track , wide allowing multiple racing lines

I remember Alex Zanardi coming through from the back of the grid after being penalised,to win - probably the greatest open wheel race I have ever watched.

Great to see Pato and McLaren getting their first win, looking good for Indy , chevys seem to have a fuel advantage over the Hondas.

O Ward, does he have any Irish heritage?

Was that 1997? Loved that track. And that was a great season of racing.
You used to be able to see the track layout on Google Earth.

Just googled there and is listed on a few articles as Irish- Mexican. Theres also a podcast where he explains his second name but I didn't listen to it.
There would be areas in Mexico that would hold a few Irish second names due to Los Patricios or 'Those of St Patrick' who went over from Ireland to fight for Mexico and ended up staying there.

Uncle Bobby had died, aged 87. His stories were brilliant.

Three podcast is an episode of the Marshall Pruitt podcast from early 2019. My podcast player says I listened to it, but I've no memory of it at all...

Anyway, this link says his great grandfather on his father’s side is Irish: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.presstelegram.com/2019/04/10/grand-prix-of-long-beach-patricio-oward-uses-boxing-to-punch-up-his-endurance/amp/

    Indy GP this weekend.

    FP1 Friday 2:30pm, FP2 Friday 6pm
Quali Friday 9:30pm. Race Saturday 7:30pm.

And then into Indy 500 practice next Tuesday week. Early signs are... no Sky coverage... :(

Okay, it's probably not due to my passive-aggressive tweeting at them, but I'm going to take credit for it anyway: SSF1 have added live practice coverage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,672 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Sky listings are updating with Indy 500 practice! :D

    • Practice 1 & Rookie Orientation — 3-7pm
    • Practice 2 — 8-11pm
    Wednesday 19th
    • Practice 3 — 8:30-11pm
Unfortunately the start of that day's session (5-8:30) is being bumped off for the F1 show, the Monaco driver's press conference, and a repeat of the F1 show

    Thursday 20th
    • Practice 4 — 5-11pm
    Friday 21st
    • Practice 4 — 5-11pm
    Saturday 22nd
    • Quali 1 — 6-11pm
Missing the first hour of qualifying due to F2 feature race and Ted's notebook.

    Sunday unavailable yet.

    Grosjean takes pole!!

Brilliant! Hope he does well. Each of his times in Qualy were getting faster and faster. He's getting a handle on the car's performance.
