Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I think thats what he means and was trying to say.

I was pointing more towards the sport dropping it, not just RB.

    Quick question.
Who made the best use of the blown diffuser when it was on cars?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,671 ✭✭✭GarIT

There was an interview on Sky with Webber explaining the situation at the time. Seb was used to 4+ years of More acceleration = More grip in the corners, and then had to adapt to More acceleration = less grip.

He was beaten by Ricciardo fairly but it might be one mitigating factor.

So Vettel adapted, sign of a good driver.

I see Unilever have transferred their sponsorship from Williams to McLaren. Hopefully we might see Ben & Jerry's or Magnum logos on this years McLaren.

Or maybe didn't adapt explaining the poor performance that year

He won 2 world championships with RB without that exhaust tech (the RB8 and RB9 didn't off throttle blown diffusers), so he was well able to adapt to them

For the 2 years they have the blown diff, Vettel did. For the 2 years without, Vettel again.

I'm dying to see McLaren on the podium this year. I thought last season had some brilliant races. Hopefully thus season won't disappoint.

W series added to the support bill for two F1 races this season at Austin and Mexico. That's a pretty big development for a series only in it's second season.

I imagine Williams will give Jamie Chadwick a run out on the Friday at both those races.

Well Nissany is their official tester so its safe to assume he'll be buying a few practices.

Me too. Would be nice to see them on the podium and maybe even get pole a few times. I know very optimistic but it could happen.

I think she's talented but I don't think Williams will give her a run, she doesn't have big money behind her and as said above Nissany will get the runs because he's paying for them.

No big money behind her? Rokit is the title sponsor of both Williams and W series. I think they might have a bit of clout for her.

Plus she has 500k in her own account from winning last season :pac:

Which wasn't even enough to buy a seat in F3. She's hoping to win again this year and move out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,684 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

What's good now is the super license points for W series and anything she can accumulate in F3 Asian series is helpful. The goal for any driver is to get those points first in order to be able to qualify for a race seat in F1. Baby steps I suppose but funding is the big headache to get any driver in a lower race seat to get vital points.

But seriously, I wonder how many times commentators are still going to say "Toro Rosso, Sauber and Force India" throughout this season.

Its not often said atm, but if anyone calls a team Alfa on commentary, then you’re wondering is it Romeo or Tauri

Plenty will do it by accident. But it will diminish over time. Same as the way you don't hear commentators say "Tyrrell" or "Jordan" by mistake.

Some people are just averse to any change. Then they get used to the change and forget they ever opposed it and oppose any new change. Just wait for the new liveries to be revealed. People go bananas every year about the new liveries and then forget they didn't like them.

Along with this piece of news, this could well be the last season for Merc in F1 as a works team...utter madness
Chinese carmaker Geely and Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll are both proposing to invest about £200m for a fresh 20 per cent stake in the business and a place on Aston’s board.

It might not be madness. They've had massive success which has been uninterrupted and often not even Challenged - boring. The returns for another dominant season must be diminishing.

They are only in f1 to advertise their cars and they might have achieved all they're going to achieve.

I've no idea whether they'll pull out or continue in the sport.

Mercedes has commited to something like 2billion in cost cuts over the next few years and as another poster said has achieved everything it can in F1 and with very little real competition. Maybe they want to concentrate on Formula E now and do the same there. I did see some saying this news could be fake do or a marketing ply by Mercedes to get there way in F1. So for now all we can do is wait and see.

Fair enough. I take your word for it.

I read a report that profits are down (not to say they’re making a loss, just reduced profits) so they’re considering letting staff go in the roadcar production side. So they might be under pressure to cut the big spending projects like f1.

    Only time will tell

They're in the process if building a new factory too. They're really one to watch in the next 4/5 years. New factory, new investment, new staff and sone top people... That's a winning combination but it will take years to bare fruit.

Red Bull lose a title sponsor then? It will make sod all difference for baby Stroll. Perez has him well and truly mastered.

With customer Mercedes engines......it's very hard to see a customer team ever beating a factory team in the current era.

That will all depend on what Mercedes-Benz works team are going to do going forward. They are still going to build engines, McLaren and Williams have agreements in place so if they sell up, will the new owners become the "works" team, does it go back to McLaren or what will happen.
We really need more engine makers on the grid. Miss the days where practically every team had their own engine manufacturer, Ford, Peugeot, Mugen, Yamaha, Hart etc.

True but Mercedes might only be engine suppliers by then. They could have a works engine deal with a team like Honda with red bull.
