Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Tian snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Such a lack of conviction when it mattered.

Maguire got lucky but he could be a handful for Ronnie after getting out of jail there

    Great drama tonight.

Maguire ran like god in those last few frames.

If anyone is interested in some of the betting on this, there is a big bet going on a century being made in each match. Some people got it at 22/1. It's landed for the first seven matches so far.

I subscribe to Eurosport but the only negative on Eurosport Player is the data consumption. By a long long way the Eurosport Player app is the most data hungry app on my phone. I have 15gb a month and would use it all up watching one match.

For full matches I usually wait and then search YouTube.

I mainly use it on the laptop on WiFi. Is this not an option?

Dont have Eurosport here but could it really be any worse listening to Ken Doherty or Peter Ebdon boring people to death with their monotonous ramblings.

I much prefer the Eurosport coverage. These days on BBC everyone is trying to outdo each other for being a character. It’s painful sometimes.

That’s before we even talk about Dennis Taylor.

Neal Foulds. Stephen Hendry. The only two commentators that I really like listening to, plus Clive Everton when he gets to do latter stages of ITV events. Foulds' insight into and knowledge of the game is just incredible. Out of the former player commentators, I'm pretty sure he watches the most snooker.

    Today's order of play:

    10am
Shaun Murphy 9 v 0 Luo Honghao (final session)
    Mark Selby v Zhao Xintong

    2:30pm
John Higgins 6 v 3 Mark Davis (final session)
    Ronnie O'Sullivan v James Cahill

    7pm
    David Gilbert v Joe Perry
Mark Selby v Zhao Xintong (final session)

Really looking forward to the Selby/Xintong match, both sessions played today and Xintong could pull off the first major upset. Plus, Ronnie vs the amateur.

Bring back Willie Thorne! Can't stand Peter Ebdon I think it's because of some of his fist pumping disrespectful antics when he was a player plus being involved in the most boring WC finals I have ever watched!

I preferred his fist pumping to his snooker playing.

Selby in trouble, I hope Zhao wins he is playing well. Last frame I thought Selby might grind out the two snookers he needed but he doesn't seem to be cueing well.

He always played well above his natural talent, which I greatly admired, but it seems his ability to do that has slipped this season.

Well done James Cahill, taken the first frame. Held his nerve well.

And, as expected, the big guy with the glasses who sits in the same spot every year, front row at Table 2, is, as usual, FAST asleep.

What's Mark Selby doing in an An Post ad on TV? :p

Actually, more importantly, what's he doing SMILING?

Ronnie got so lucky in this frame. Jammy. He should be 4-3 down.

Ronnie isn’t himself at all this afternoon, but he isn’t getting punished for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,119 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Ronnie's lucky he's not playing a better and more experienced player, or he'd be at least 6-2 down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,184 ✭✭✭✭Pighead

He's playing absolutely awful stuff. I know it's only the first round but he'd want to get his focus back pretty sharpish or he'll be on his way home.

The 5-4 lead is the very least James Cahill deserves.

Absolutely. It's like Ronnie isnt even taking him seriously even though they have played each other a handful of times already so he should know hes a good player.

Cahill hasn't even played particularly well. He's missed a few easy ones as well. Ronnie has been getting plenty of chances in each frame but just keeps missing. I'm sure he'll be way more focused in the next session.

Definitely plenty of errors from both players.

Would agree we should see a different ronnie tomorrow

These Chinese lads look like they are going to takeover.
Would not be surprised if the Chinese dominate the top ten in 15 years time.

Thought Sat Nav was going to pull that frame out of the bag.
Have to admire the temperament of Zhao.

Steve Davis laughing at the stats there the only one Zhao is ahead of Selby on is safety success (when the players were at 7 frames each)
And that was only 2% more!

Been hearing that for over a decade. So far they've all fallen a mile short of what the raw talent promises. Every single one including Ding has underperformed. Don't appear to have the grit.

Was just going to say exactly this.

Ronnie was poor today. I really think the thoughts of multi session matches where he can afford to lose a few frames and 17 days of snooker crush his soul and he finds it hard to focus.

If it’s best of 9 or 11 he knows there is no margin for error and he’s out of the blocks fast.

Can John Higgins possibly win this year...the title that is........?

I don't see him getting past Robertson in the QFs, if both make it that far.

    Today's order of play:

    10am
    Stuart Bingham v Graeme Dott
    Ronnie O'Sullivan 4 v 5 James Cahill (final session)

    2:30pm
David Gilbert 6 v 3 Joe Perry (final session)
    Judd Trump v Thepchaiya Un-Nooh

    7pm
Stuart Bingham v Graeme Dott (final session)
    Mark Allen v Zhou Yuelong

I think the morning session will suit Ronnie, rather than Cahill, who was very impressive yesterday. Against other players, I'd love Cahill to have a deep run, but I would prefer an O'Sullivan comeback today. Also interested to see if Gilbert can get the job done against Perry. Plus, Trump/Un-Nooh should be a great match.

He was impressive in the sense that he's an amateur player, playing an all time great under the bright lights of the crucible. However, most any other player in the tournament would have had Ronnie on his knees. Cahill let Ronnie away with an awful lot, albeit, understandably given his lack of experience.

Was genuinely surprised at Ronnie's demeanour yesterday. He's been so focused for all the big events this season and I assumed he would arrive in Sheffield with a similar outlook. He just looked bored and uninterested yesterday and missed so many balls. The fact he missed so many pots into the centre pockets which do require a little bit of extra attention showed he just wasn't given it his all.

Needs a decent start this morning. If he loses the first mini session 3-1 he's in big trouble.

I hinted a little bit of disrespect from Ronnie. Played way to quick and was sloppy.

A break of 97 in about six minutes to level it up. Think Ronnie's gonna be ok.

Hopefully he gets it together as be shame for him to go out and not live up to the season he has been having.

Cahill 7-5 up. The next frame is crucial.
