Sorry to go off topic, but where did he say that? I'm getting married end of July.

I think it was said at the end of summer, but has been repeated in the media in November, December and now, but it isn't new. It was usually coupled with when he said that there will be no refunds for any concerts for 2021 are rescheduled.

67,000 people carried their tickets over from last year.
The remaining 3,000 will presumably go on sale around St. Patricks day when the initial announcement is.

It's all or nothing for the picnic in terms of attendees, as there's no way they can revoke one punters ticket over another, just so they can get down to a certain figure. 35,000 is still a huge number, given the most at a gig since March last year was 50-100.

I love all the optimism, i really do, but

We'll be at level 5+ until mid / end of March. That's already been confirmed by the government. So, 5 months before crew get to site.

Level 4 / 3 for at least another month to 6 weeks. So, 3.5 months before crew hit site.

Assuming infection rates are low and vaccination rates are high, then
    Level 2 / 1 by June / July

Even at level 1 nightclubs must remain closed / max 200 for indoor events / 500 for outdoor events.

We've had some of the harshest restrictions in Europe in terms of the hospitality / entertainment sectors. Do we really think that the gov are going to go from say max 500 outdoors by mid summer, to 70000 by end of summer, just so we can get pissed up in a field in Stradbally?

It could well go ahead, but i think if i'm thinking about things logically it's already highly unlikely.

It's hard to know how this will play out, you mention level 5 restrictions as if the situation will be identical in August as its is now. But we should have all of the "vulnerable" vaccinated by then.

CSO figures show that 92% of deaths from Covid were over 65 years of age. The vast majority of >65 will be vaccinated by end of March.

I can see a situation developing in summer where the virus will be much less harmful, and circulating a lot less, but we'll still have a very cautious approach with restrictions etc.

Aside from the virus, we need to contend with local planning. If you remember last year the locals were completely against the EP taking place, this was obviously the correct call. I think we'll see a repeat of these calls again this year, possibly emotion based rather than scientific.

What month does the Ep planning license usually get submitted?

@Seathrun I see your friends the Clockworks are on the list for the 2fm Rising thing. Nice little boost on these dark days. They put on a good show in Stradbally.

Yeah, that was good to see. For Those I Love also interesting but I know nothing about the other acts. Hopefully 2021/22 will see international breakthroughs for some more of our guitar bands in the Fontaines' slipstream. And more importantly, that we get to see some of those bands.

Well the liklihood of Boris getting his sh1t together anytime soon isn't great so I can imagine why they cancelled.

As bad as our lot are, we hopefully stand a better chance.

TBH, think they're probably best cancelling anyway due to the sh1tstorm that's happening with musicians and brexit (spit spit). It's going to kill small foreign bands from bothering to go to the UK which will then of course kill them coming here.

Donnelly reckons everyone in the country will be vaccinated by September. Bodes well for the festival going ahead in some form barring any hiccups in rollout.

The Brits are ahead of us on vaccine roll-out tbf. If Glasto was happening in September it would still have had a chance.

Wouldn't trust a f**kin word out of them on numbers. Vaccination cannot be considered done until you've had both jabs. They're pushing out the time to the second jab which could have serious consequences.

Remember, this is the shower of shysters that were counting each glove, not each pair of gloves as a unit of ppe.

Correct, they also decided to give up the right to be able to sue the vaccine companies if anything goes wrong just to start putting it out a couple of weeks early. They then hailed it as because of Brexit they could do what they wanted when in actual fact they were still subject to the same EU rules.

I'm not that suprised about one of the biggest festivals in the world won't go ahead in June, it's just too soon. Donnelly came out to say today that everyone will have the jab by September. While that does remain to be seen, it does explain why body and sould plan to move to September.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

Glastonbury, and most other festivals in early summer's problem, is that most bands aren't touring then.
Regardless of whether or not the UK is vaccinated, no bands are doing tours throughout Europe in June, especially ones from the US.
Glastonbury heavily relies on bands being in the area and playing for a reduced fee.

There seems to be lots of festivals moved to September, so EP might be OK in that regard, but I'd imagine it'll be a case of taking what they can get from whoever will tour then.
I'm not sure if any Live Nation/Festival Republic festivals have been announced for then that could share acts?

I would imagine all festivals that have moved to September will have weaker than usual lineups, but I doubt anyone will really care.

Bearded Theory in the UK has already moved from May to 9-11 Sept.
They've announced Placebo as their first headliner.
Could see them headlining/sub-headliner at EP.

This rollercoaster of emotions. Like dying with a head on ye of a Sunday morning and having a can at the tent.
Or giving it full tilt at 3am in the woods, being knackered and auto-piloting back to base and having a can at the tent.
    Tent cans, lads.

Government hoping for things to be 'much better' from April - but no large gigs on the cards this summer https://jrnl.ie/5335248

I read the too but figure that's their prediction as things stand.

There are more vaccines coming on board next month and hopefully that will rank up vaccinations, which will change things for the better hopefully :)

Luke O'Neill, practically an Oracle at this stage, says we'll be in the beer gardens by June. He wasn't pushed on an Electric picnic prediction but I like to think he's quietly confident.

There's a lot of positive news re COVID.

A 3rd vaccine is approved and will be rolled out imminently, another 3 are en route.

The vaccines are effective against the new strains.

Antigen tests are revealed to be very accurate and cheap.

With them being good enough for hauliers, it is expected they will be rolled out quickly.

Have a listen if you want some optimistic news. It was nice for me to hear it, that's for sure.

A tenuous link, but BBC6 are playing a lot of new post-punk bands this week and we should see some at EP '21 or '22 if the UK can sort out their musician via mess. Dry Cleaning a decent lot and this crew, my new favourite Mark E Smith band.

Dog Proposal is great, but the hook in Magic of Meghan is class.

    I haven't listened to 6music in 2 years so I wasn't aware they'd broken through.

Hadn't heard of TV Priest before. Right up my street, great stuff.
