    Flip

    That's great news if it is. Barnes has been outstanding so far in terms of communication compared to the likes of Gardiner and Peyper.

    Yes, don’t think that’s all too bad either.

    Best ref in the business for the biggest game of the tournament. Couldn't ask for better

    He’s going to be reffing one obviously and not England so there’s a reasonable chance it’s him but hasn’t been confirmed anywhere as far as I can see.

    Not trolling at all - genuinely.

    , but I despise everything about Irish rugby .
    I’m embarrassed by ‘ireland’s call’ -

    I find it hysterical that you can almost buy an Irish jersey and be eligible to play, despite where your from.

    The main stream media attempting to drum up excitement ..
    When I’m reality, there is a tiny minority who follow it .. a larger minority who pretend to
    .. but in reality, the fast majority couldn’t give a flying fu**

    Thanks for your input, your concerns have been noted, and we'd just like to say that nobody gives a rats about it.

    Enjoy your day.

    If it doesn't 'have support' then it will die out as a game. Problem sorted for you.

    And no, not just anyone can play, there are residency rules applicable to all. Unlike soccer.

    I'm embarrassed by Conor McGregor and Roy Keane to a lesser extent. Each to their own.

    I can’t find that announcement.

    Order of preference for a NZ game:

    Berry
    Raynal
    Poite (yes!)
    Raynal
    Barnes
    Owens
    Pearce?
    Gaüzère
    Gardner
    Garcès

    My guess at the NZ side

    Barrett; Reece, L-Brown, Crotty, Bridge;
    Mo’unga, Smith;
    Moody, Taylor, Laulala;
    Retallick, Whitelock;
    Savea, Cane, Read.

    Coles, Tuungafasi, Ta’Avao, Barrett, Frizzell, TJ Perenara, SBW, Smith.

    Not sure about Taylor, Crotty and the no.23
    Edit: And Rettalick. He has to be rusty

    Italy game been canceled is not ideal for NZ
    Advantage Ireland!

    Refs for quarters, we’ve Nigel. https://www.rugbyworldcup.com/news/513574

    NZ v Ire - Nige
    SA V Jap - Barnes
    Wal v Fra - Peyper
    Eng v Aus - Garces

    How peyper keeps getting awarded matches is beyond me

    Paul Williams has been consistently good too.

    Garces has been in the middle of so much contraversal calls, yet still gets big games.

    He's the worst ref I've ever seen and that includes J5 level!

    Boggles the mind! Must be political. It's the only explanation I can come up with.

    If he gets the calls right, why wouldn't he?

    And Gardner as one of the Assistants??
    That’s ridiculous considering the chat since the Japan match.

    At least Berry is the other Assistant.
    Edit it’s Gaüzère!! Groan!!

    Jonker TMO
    Edit it’s Graham Hughes

    Expect wholesale killing of the ball in from NZ to go unpunished (no YC)
    - in their 22

    If he gets the calls right, why wouldn't he?

    Cos he doesn't always get them right obviously, otherwise they wouldn't be contraversal.

    Its known widely that he allows a lot more carnage at the break down than other refs... And he's known to give scrum penalities without clearly explaining why.

    He's already been at the centre of two incorrect offside calls in our game v Japan.

    So no, he didn't always get them right

    I was hoping not to get Nigel for this game, he'll ref us off the pitch.

    Ah I'm not too bothered, he's about middling in the list of who I'd like.

    And we know very well at this stage how he will ref it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

    It won't be Garces. Given Schmidt basically called him out after the Japan game I can't see World Rugby doing that to him

    Bottom middle on my list
    & With Gardner and Gaüzère it’s not an ideal combination

    We’ve managed to piss all three of them off numerous times over the past and recent matches

    Yeah I agree. Not the best team of officiates based on our history with them all.

    Still. Swings and roundabouts?

    Owens is our best chance of a close game, and a close game is our best chance of winning

    IIRC Owens has officiated the highest percentage of close (within one score results) of any current referee

    He tends to even up games with his decisions, which is frustrating if you’re the stronger team, as Ireland have been for much of the past Few years, but given our opponents on Saturday we’re more likely to benefit on this occasion.

    Also, his experience means he’s less likely to be star struck and defer to the All blacks ‘right to win’ and would probably love to be involved in a historic result like Ireland sending NZ home with a last minute drop goal
