We lost our Charlie today , nearly 13 years old , the tears are flowing as im typing , the vet had to put him to sleep as his liver and kidneys were failing , my wife and son and I were rubbing him as he took his last breath ,

Charlie made me smile every day we had him and will never be forgotten

Not a departed pet pic post (I posted about Tigger before this), but I thought this was nice and thought some of you guys might like the idea.

The Petstop Superstore in Blanchardstown do T-shirt & mug printing, so I have this mug done for my OH.

    attachment.php?attachmentid=66238&stc=1&d=1226069471

Ths pic on the front is my Tigger, he was knocked down and died a few weeks later of his injuries.

    Thanks, here's the little guy.

We tried our best, he lived for a few weeks after the accident then died in the vets surgery.

In hindsight I'm sorry I didn't have him put to sleep when he was run over, but I hadn't the balls - I regret that now, I let him live in pain and misery for a few weeks longer than was necessary.

In fairness though mairt its hard to put them to sleep when you think that there may be hope left, you obviously did what you thought was best at the time.

My little girl died last night. She was 15 and had a massive stroke on Saturday. She had her first stroke last year but pulled through with no side effects. This one was so bad that the vet saw her out of hours and put her to sleep immedialty.

She was the most loyal, loving dog and she will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.

im sorry snowey, i feel terrible for what you are going through but this below helped me. (and had me in floods of tears)

    I'm Still Here

I stood by you, by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
    "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well. I'm fine. I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast.
I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today.
Your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today. You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said, "It's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday -
to say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew.
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over ...... I smile and watch you yawning
and say, "Good night, God bless - I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out . . . then come home to be with me.

    Author Unknown

This will have you in floods too but you'll be crying from the last poem so what the hell eh?

my little tearaway died last month. smacked by a car and broke his back. it broke my heart to put have him put down, but it had to be done. he was a little menace in the area, with a free roaming spirit, who had numerous adoptive homes, which he frequented for a snack.

he was barred from the pet shop in blanch as it was one of his favourite haunts, and he liked to pop in and sample (steal) their toys or pigs ears, or scare the crap out of the pets at the back.

thankfully there is an upside, as he had a fleeting affair with a jack russell shortly before his passing, and am now just waiting for the pup to be weened off his mother.DSCF0838.JPG

Misty died 3 months ago, but my heart still breaks for her.
She was 15 and 8months old. the vet nurse hated to see her coming into the surgery as she was so obnoxious. a dog only an owner could love. I was with her when the vet put her to sleep, after she suddenly deteriorated.

Her companion of 13 years Sally, misses her as well but she too is coming to the end of her life and I know that I will have to make the tough decision again.

Last year we lost our cat mikey, she was 13.

Misty was bought to replace another dog, Judy who died after a short illness when she was 13. I recovered from the loss of Judy so I know that I will eventually recover from the loss of my Misty.

    Thank you for this site.

Taylor was the first fighting Pit Bull I took in. He was with me for almost 10 years and was at least 4 when I got him. Taylor was a gentle soul with people and bigger animals but despite my best efforts I was never able to re-socialise him with other dogs. Taylor passed away today, he was much loved and the grief runs deep...

May the good earth be soft under you
    when you rest upon it,
and may it rest easy over you when,
at the last, you lay out under it,
And may it rest so lightly over you
that your soul may be out
    from under it quickly,
    and up, and off,
And be on its way to God.

I will miss you, old boy - I hope you run free with Glor now. :(

It feels silly, because she hasn't been my cat since I moved from home in 2000, but my mother's cat died today and it's so very sad.

She was a kitten when I was in my mid-teens, a bright eyed bully at feeding time and the softest couch-partner. Nudge went downhill in the last year and wasn't the same animal when we were home last.
Mom said she was drinking bowls of water, listless and off her food, which was such a shock for a champion-eater like that cat.
After she dropped a fast 3 lbs (off a cat that weighs a stone, too!) bloodwork from the vet reported it was diabetes. Since having her teeth cleaned last year, three had fallen out.
There were treatments, but mom knew they'd only prolong and not cure. If one twice-daily dose was missed the poor creature would be in pain...

Today at 11.30 am she slipped away on the vet's table with both my parents there. Mom said she didn't even soil herself... the perfect pet to the end.

She'll be missed terribly, most of all when there's no great white ball to greet us when we come in the door this Christmas

Our beloved golden lab, Cody, died today, 14 years of age, she was very sick so had to be put down, its heartbreaking, our entire family are in bits, but it would have been cruel to keep her alive for our selfish reasons! This thread helped as I found myself feeling a bit silly for crying over her death but I realise its completely normal, so thanks. Its all very sad. :(

My dog Abbey died just 6 weeks ago. As I write this the tears are streaming down my face. She had a heart condition and the vet told us we had just a few weeks left with her. She lasted nearly 5 years after that with endless tablets. I prayed that I would not have to get the vet to put her to sleep. She died in my arms and I feel so proud of her and the long battle she put in......

My beautiful beardie died 8 weeks ago. He was in an accident with a truck delivering. He was nearly 12, but not showing his age at all, mad as a hatter, same as when he was 12 weeks!!
I miss him terribly, the first few days were just awful. I got better then, but Christmas was terrible again - no one to share dinner with - he'd have been sniffing the over for the turkey for hours!!
After initally swearing I'd never get another, I have decided I need a dog in my life. I'm getting another dog this weekend - a rescue bearded cross.
I'll always smile and think of this darling. He was the only man in my house for many years and for the friendship and devotion, he'll always be special - he listened to all my secrets and problems and never judged!!! No matter how bad the day, being greeted at the door every evening put me in a good mood, how could you not smile in the face of unconditional devotion!!

My cat Tommy got hit by a car on Monday. He had been missing for a few days and we called round to few houses to see if anyone saw him. Turned out someone did and had moved him in off the road so other cars wouldnt go over him. The person owned cats themselves. I am heartbroken he was my little baby and il never forget him. Never thought he would ever get run over. I am worried about his brother Joey because they did everything together. I am trying to spend as much time with him as I can so he wont start fretting too much.

My dear beloved dog died a few hours ago! Had him for 10 years. I'm in shock! I never thought the day would come at all..albeit so soon!
I'v been balling solid since it happened..he's lying in our kitchen in his basket. It's like he is asleep and will wake up any minute now!
We think he must have gotten a clip of a car (though, he never goes out to the road, he's scared of his own shadow!) and perhaps with the shock got a heart attack or something. There was just a scrap on one of his back legs, and blood coming out his mouth..other than that perfect! I arrived home from school and my dad had just removed him from the road. I ran in screaming to my mother!
Can't believe he's not going to be around anymore..and all his quirky habits..wanting to come in and lay by the fire, lying wherever the sun shone into the kitchen, sit on anybodies shoe to help his lame leg, couldnt eat infront of anyone, loved having his belly rubbed, barked when someone was at the house and would then run around the back of the house as he was scared him, going for 'walkies' and getting 'din-dins', rubbing his back off the trees out the back, running in our fields after rabbits!
We're so upset here..we'll leave him where he is tonight, he so peaceful looking, will bury him basket and all in a box tomorrow.

    RIP Jack.

I found my cat Marge/Babycat dead in our neighbours front garden this morning. Have no idea what happened to her, she was fine in herself, not sick, eating well, had all her jabs, was spayed. She looked to go out last night to use the loo as usual, wouldn't come back in when I called her, which isn't unusual for her. She's spent plenty of nights out and about, often sleeps under the hedge in our neighbours garden. She was just lying there, not a mark on her, so sign of visible injury. I don't think a dog got to her because surely there'd be blood or signs of bites etc... she wasn't sick, was playing with her cat toysjust yesterday evening not a bother on her.

I suspect she ate some sort of poison, but I'll never know. Am in shock and devestated. She was only 9 months old, a lovely cat, so playful and affectionate, lovely longhaired cat, fabulous bushy tail:( :( Have been crying all day for her.

I have no idea how to break the news to my 3 year old daughter, she was very, very fond of Marge - was herself that named her "babycat" and the name stuck.

Crying again writing this.. am just in shock :(

Lost my dog Piggy yesterday :(

    So so sad.

It came on her so quick. She was stong and healthy for her age even tho she was 14 yrs old.

Last Friday she started vomiting yellow bile and not eating. Then she started lying on the cold ground to soothe her belly.

She lives at home with my mum (I live 3 hours away) so I said to Mum 'keep telling her to hold on till I get home and say goodbye'. I was going to go home this fri

Then yesterday (Wed) I was on the phone to my Mum and I heard her give the most awful yelp in the background. I knew she was in alot of pain and I was being selfish asking her to hold on, so I hept saying in my head 'You don't have to wait for me, go on, go on', and she died straight after I said that. Maybe she heard me.

Mum told me later she was lying on the floor right outside my old bedroom. I feel so sad I didnt get home to see her, and still cant believe she's gone, but im happy she's out of pain.

Im crying now loved her so much she was such a big part of my life had her since i was 10 yrs old, who's going to sunbathe with me out in the garden now?:(:(:(

I am absolutely gutted. My poor baby sage was knocked down and killed on thursday and i found her :( . I dont know what to do. I tried so hard to keep her safe, she was an indoor cat, neutered, micro-chipped and adored. i used to walk her on lead and even to help her climb tree's she didn't even know she could! I am so sorry baby that i let this happen you were never supposed to be let out.

Rest in peace my purring angel i will remember how much you kept me sane through depression and unemployment when we got to spend all day together. xxx

...You never posses a cat, you are allowed to be in a cat's life, which, of course, is a privilege....

They say memories are golden, well, maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories, I only wanted you.
    A million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly, in death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place no one else could fill.
If tears could build a stairway and heartache make a lane.
I'd walk the path to Heaven and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us back one by one, the chain will link again.

    They will not go quietly,
the cats who've shared our lives.
In suptle ways they let us know
    their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think
we hear a meow at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometimes, coming home at night,
    we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them. . . and always will.

a wild cat came to my cottage door about three years ago i thought he was dead he looked so bad

the vet stitched glued and pinned him back together and he was my friend
he wasn't scared of anything he fed himself (if he had enough he always offered to share) but would eat what i gave him
he'd walk beside me when i walked my dog (who tried to eat him ) and he'd come when called
i made him a cat treehouse but he prefered to live under the car or in the field s

this morning i herd him crying and he was rolled up in a ball

    h's insides were hanging out
he had crawled with his back feet smashed about 50m to get me to fix him like i did before
i wraped him in a towel drove him to the vet hospital and i thgink he thought he be ok

    he was an outside cat
i knew he'd not die of old age but its really sad
that cats can't learn to cross the road
Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with a cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

Sally a labrador Setter x Died on Monday 20th April 2009 RIP Sally

On Page 15 there is a posting about her friend Misty.

Sally unlike Misty was a dog that everyone could and did love, the whole family are in a state of sadness even though she had been unwell for a long time. My 18 year old son asked me to delay it for another day, but I could not bear to see her trying to walk around.
We were told 7 years ago when she was placed on medication for a heart problem that she would probably only last 2 years more. 7 years on heart medication, 3 years on thyroid medication and 1 year on hormone replacement, however she developed diabetes and lost so much weight and muscle that the kindest thing to do was to have her put to sleep.
Thank you Sally for the 14 years of happiness you gave us and forgive me for ending your life.

Just to give you a little hope, I moved into a house 23 years ago that is on a busy main city road in Cork. I had sleepless nights worrying about my cats. All died of Old Age, one still at 15 years still survives.
A lot of cats do learn to cross the road.
PS. I make sure they are in the house at night, just in case.
