Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Monday week the petrol pumps are 'handed over' to tesco's at Coonagh.

Roll on cheap petrol. Or drip forward... or whatever

I'd say we would be doing well if the petrol was 1 cent cheaper then across the road and you got club card points

I remember when the Tesco petrol station opened in Tullamore,it was about 5 cents cheaper than anywhere else in the town, ironically enough it's one of the most expensive now.

Although it might end up being a few cent (Or a good few cent) lower, Would the petrol be of good quality? Thats one thing I always found with Petrol, for the higher prices you can get further off it and it doesn't screw up your engine.

Well all the petrol comes into ireland the same way, sure some companies add some cleaning additives to improve performance, but i'd say most of the quality control would have to be at the pumps rather then beforehand. And if the pumps are brand new, sounds good to me.

Totally recommend them phog - I had an issue with my Canon 50D and even though couldn't do anything for me Martin gave me a place to send it to. He also cleaned the sensor of my older DSLR and the lens and its fabulous.

They also transfer VHS tapes to DVDs as well.

That's good to hear, must call into them in the next few days.

Do they have camera bags, on the lookout for a backpack type one.

ArtMad (fomerly Normoyle-Frawley Framing), an arts supply shop, has opened at no 35 Johns street.

Directly across the road from ArtMad (and next to Siopa Rothar), another arts-supply shop is opening very soon (currently being fitted out etc). I dont have a name on this other arts supply shop yet.

Great news if you are an artist.

I saw in the paper they applied for a late "dancing" licence until 3am so I guess it will be a club/late bar

I know the franchise owner and the Crescent is his first choice. He has two franchises there already. He shelved another big brand franchise opening in town last year because of the state of the City.

Any chance you could pm me the shelved franchise just out out of interest?

Topaz filling station and shop on the Tipperary Road (old Pat Keogh Nissan garage) is open again. Fuel prices pretty much the same as the others in the area.

Yes but much better than the previous occupant you will agree.

This picture was taken on Wednesday. Thought it was funny. Couldn't get worse than this. Obviously the maximum the monoliths will go in price. :D

That was the price Mr Keogh was charging last time he owned it.

Its 140.9 for diesel and 148.9 for petrol. I read ages ago that they were redeveloping the whole site there but I guess the recession put an end to that.

I will stop there for my Diesel. Getting Diesel on the Bypass side was always difficult when you have a Fuel Card. Getting to Roxboro was always difficult since the exit was removed.

Pretty much on the ball prices compared to elsewhere...ill use it as well..its a handy option for that side of town.

Was travelling through Parnell St today and saw a pizza and kebab shop open where the Red Rose cafe was before. Another kebab shop, but better than the unit being vacant I guess.

Looks decent value for dinner but hopefully they will do lunch specials as the prices on the menu kind of rule it out as a regular lunch option

    Hi Folks,

Just looking for some input regarding a possible new venture on Thomas street in Limerick. Im looking for peoples views on a shop stocking the following product. ( Please note i fully understand the issues regarding the centre of Limerick)

Inks branded and generic, Posters ( Wall, door , and 3D), Back catalogue DvD's and CD's ( under €10, mostly from €2.99 to €6.99), Batteries ( All types and charges etc), phone covers( Blackberry and iphone to start, then maybe HTC), memory( 2GB to 16GB), black discs (DvD, CD and Blu Ray) , copier and other types of paper, Lots of earphones and headphones, printers, wall canvases to go with the posters, all types of cabling and computer accessories ( incl keyboards, mice webcams etc) , some gadgets ( Usb powered fans, cup warmers, webcams, mice, etc etc), laptop bags, ipod accessories( speakers, cables) etc. I have the option of Ipad cases aswell but not sure on those. I could also do a good value electronic cigarette.

Prices would be competitive. Looking to do volume rather than margin.

Any input appreciated. ( Please note premises are secured, suppliers are secured)

    Cheers

Think it is a good idea but i would be concerned about Thomas Street as a location, the footfall is not great, did a study myself there earlier in the summer about units and stayed away over the footfall. Good idea though, best of luck with it just rethink your premises

Try to add some retro comics, forbidden planet style to that idea, unusual albums and the like.
Limerick is calling out for that kind of indy store and what your other products it would bring people in to spend on your consumables

His premises are secured to it needs to do some revenue.

Frankly these days it is mostly all about Social Media(FREE!!) so get yourself linking to people over and over and over and keep putting up good offers and new offers. Don't spam people either.

The only place I can think of with most of what you sell under one roof would be Maplin. I'm a lazy sod myself so parking at the door of Maplin is handy but then again the internet is handy as well.

I'm intruiged anyway and would likely stick my head in the door for a "gook".

    Any website or facebook yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,352 ✭✭✭✭phog

Limerick is probably lacking office blocks or call centres, off hand I'm thinking of the Revenue commissioners in Sarsfield House and Charlottes Quay, closer to the city you probably have eircom on Roches St, HSE on Catherine St and the banks on O'Connell St and that's about it - have I missed any other big employers?

The last couple I mentioned would be well within walking distance of Thomas St for a lunch time stroll, so making yourself known is the key.

BTW - I wish you well and many years of success.
