George Russell is the only driver to make a time so far in the 3rd practice session.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,319 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Lewis Hamilton is doing his practice lap on Intermediate tyres right now.

Looks like nobody wants to push with the conditions as they are. Unlikely there'll be anything useful from fp3.

Hopefully quali is like this too, at the cross over point between slicks and inters.

LeClerc topped the FP3 session with Vettel in 2nd place & Hamilton in 3rd.

Billy Monger is really good at driving that McLaren.

LeClerc is on fire today with that lap time in qualifying in the medium tyre.

His first lap time today at Q1 was 1:25.628

He is really showing a lot of purples in all of the three sectors which is really good.

I will be really surprised if he actually beats Hamilton in Q3 if he continues with this great performance.

That midfield fight was ridiculously close. Half the grid separated by three tenths. Nice lap from Checo to sneak into Q2 at KMag's expense

Yeah he looks on it so far, but I can't escape this feeling that Hamilton will find something extra when it really counts.

Not sure why Leclerc completed that second flying lap on softs. If there's uncertainty about degradation and weather surely the optimum strategy is to start the race on the medium?

Why have both Ferrari's locked themselves onto softs? Both Mercs starting on Mediums.

Good question, you'd think starting on the Mediums gives you a better choice of strategy for the race, should make it more interesting for us the viewers mind!

Mercs & Red Bulls turned their engines up.

    Vettels head is gone.

Bottas has pole position by beating Hamilton with 0.006. LeClerc is 3rd being 0.0079 behind Hamilton.

Ferrari P3 & P6 with both cars on the wrong tyre strategy for the race. Should make for a dull race tomorrow. Mercedes 1-2 anyone?

Good quali by Bottas. He's still there imo.

Points difference is 29 between him and Hamilton. I know Merc would called team orders so it would keep it an interesting championship if Lewis had a dnf tomorrow while Bottas wins.

Funny that happens when his team-mate starts to show him up.

Russel smashed Kubica again. Half a second this time. It's gotten embarrassing. The idea that there might be a flaw in Kubica's car was interesting but ultimately proved untrue. He's just not fast anymore. Being trounced by a child every other weekend must be demoralising.

Can't blame him for coming back. But the experiment has been run and the results are stacking up. He'll need to bring a lot of money as a pay driver to get another Contract for next year. Is he already locked in for next year or are there break clauses for Williams?

Replace Kubica with Vettel and Russell with Le Clerc and you get the same story :D

Ol Bob's not done that badly. There are major disparities in performance between drivers of other F1 teams - Force India, Haas and Red Bull. They had all the data about his capabilities before they appointed him on a two year contract. It's an amazing physical feat, really, to still be able to drive at what is, if not a highly competitive than hardly an utterly inept level. Anyway, the car is utter rubbish. It would be interesting to see him have a go in a Merc.

If he’s getting smashed by Russell in a Williams then he’d get absolutely annihilated by Bottas in a Merc, never mind Hamilton.

Yeah I think out front we might be looking at a dull race with Merc 1/2. Our only hope is a good start from Verstappen & Vettel to really mix it up.

Anyone have any thoughts on what’s wrong with Vettel? Proper woeful in quali, like he just wasn’t there.

His heads gone. I dunno if it's a confidence thing or anything to do with LeClerc's emergence but it's really one thing that seems to follow him around.

I wouldn't say his head is gone but definitely lacking confidence. All the pre season momentum was with Ferrari and now it's not. Maybe he's starting to get frustrated at the team's continued failure to get things right similar to Alonso. This is Seb's fifth season with Ferrari and seems farther away from a title than ever
