Good quali by Bottas. He's still there imo.

Points difference is 29 between him and Hamilton. I know Merc would called team orders so it would keep it an interesting championship if Lewis had a dnf tomorrow while Bottas wins.

Russel smashed Kubica again. Half a second this time. It's gotten embarrassing. The idea that there might be a flaw in Kubica's car was interesting but ultimately proved untrue. He's just not fast anymore. Being trounced by a child every other weekend must be demoralising.

Can't blame him for coming back. But the experiment has been run and the results are stacking up. He'll need to bring a lot of money as a pay driver to get another Contract for next year. Is he already locked in for next year or are there break clauses for Williams?

Replace Kubica with Vettel and Russell with Le Clerc and you get the same story :D

Ol Bob's not done that badly. There are major disparities in performance between drivers of other F1 teams - Force India, Haas and Red Bull. They had all the data about his capabilities before they appointed him on a two year contract. It's an amazing physical feat, really, to still be able to drive at what is, if not a highly competitive than hardly an utterly inept level. Anyway, the car is utter rubbish. It would be interesting to see him have a go in a Merc.

If he’s getting smashed by Russell in a Williams then he’d get absolutely annihilated by Bottas in a Merc, never mind Hamilton.

Yeah I think out front we might be looking at a dull race with Merc 1/2. Our only hope is a good start from Verstappen & Vettel to really mix it up.

Anyone have any thoughts on what’s wrong with Vettel? Proper woeful in quali, like he just wasn’t there.

His heads gone. I dunno if it's a confidence thing or anything to do with LeClerc's emergence but it's really one thing that seems to follow him around.

I wouldn't say his head is gone but definitely lacking confidence. All the pre season momentum was with Ferrari and now it's not. Maybe he's starting to get frustrated at the team's continued failure to get things right similar to Alonso. This is Seb's fifth season with Ferrari and seems farther away from a title than ever

So, who wins? Bookies have Hamilton fav, and probably hard to look passed him on his home track.

Be interesting if LeClerc can make a place or two at the start.

I saw the Ben Edwards cockpit commentary with Lando Norris driving the McLaren. It was amazing to watch.

The wheel from the car was nearly knackered as it was showing some flames when it finished the lap.

Very disappointed in Vettel. This should have been the race to get him motivated considering he won it last year and yet he only qualified 6th. Not looking good for him if it keeps going like this. Eddie Jordon saying him a Lewis will do a swap and some stage. I can not see that happening anytime soon. I could see Vettel retire before that. I think Vettel seems to have lost his killer instinct.

I would like to see Leclerc or Bottas win the race.

Just hoping we get a good race because qualifying was very boring one of the worst in a while.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Thought the Toto-Southgate feature was very good on C4. They seem like two clued in managers; both people and process management.

Chris Grayling in attendance. What disasters can he conjure up today?!

Grid walk would be better is they focused on getting info from more technically involved people. Feck the celebrities!

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,369 ✭✭✭Rossi IRL

They should limit the amount of nobodies on the grid.

Suppose its probably a money racket for them.

Would like to see some former/current drivers, etc being interviewed

Also didn't like Brundle running through people and knocking off them.

Also limit the broadcasters to 5 people max on the grid. Sky must have around 20 including cameramen, sound people etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,541 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Oh Jesus. Verstappen's end plate on his car is cracked as he went to the grid. I hope that the team will get fixed quickly.

Great to have an F1 race live again on channel 4, but steve jones is still an awful dose.
Heres hoping for an exciting race with max and leclerc in the mix.

I actually think Steve Jones has done a good job this weekend and has not being annoying as he normally is.

No mention of that on C4.

Don't see any chance of rain strong enough to necessitate inters or wets. The big unknown is the tyre degradation, 1 stoppers will have some ugly tyres at the end but can see the teams preferring that given the time loss on the extra stop.

I'm really enjoying the channel 4 coverage too. Webber was a class act when describing the Verstappen trouble on the grid. I don't think Brundle would have known the routine in a situation like that. It's been a long time since he's been in the cockpit, I wonder is that starting to show. He is of course, an excellent broadcaster and still has a keen eye. If only we could pair him with Webber or Coulthard.

He gets flak but I much prefer him to his Sky counterpart Simon Lazeby. Jones seems to actually enjoy being there in stark contrast to Lazenby who has an eternal look of ambivalence on his face, as if the whole thing is an annoyance to him

Maggots-Becketts-Chapel is an excellent sequence of corners.

The 2 Haas had contact between each other & went to the pits.

I was praying for Grosjean to retire, have a double on him as first retirement and a Hamilton win. A bigger contact would have been sweet

What were they thinking cutting away mid overtake to show the crowd when Hamilton was having a go at Bottas. Stupid dope of a director

Verstappen needs to get passed Leclerc if he has any chance of keeping with the front 2

LeClerc with tyre trouble. We could be relying on Max to give the Mercs a fight.

No chance, robust defence from all concerned. Do we want racing or not?

Hard to see with the camera, not impressed with some of the angles and cuts in this race.

Gasly made a good move there against Vettel. And now Gasly went into the pits.

We do, but for years now the sporting administrators clearly do not.
