Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

anyone know what piece of music is used by the RTE for their World Cup coverage, is it Beethoven by any chance?

    Cheers, Kieran

Kieran, follwing enquirys to RTE, I have found out the name of the piece you (and me too) are looking for:

The Pilgrims Chorus from Wagner's Opera Tannhouser

The best way of getting this theme is through legal and law abiding methods. Well, maybe it isn't, and you're free to debate IP law etc., but advocating illegal activity can get you banned from here.

The best way of getting this theme is yadda yadda like the way I editted the last one.

Better still, why don't you buy it on CD ! Naxos Classical label has it on their "Best of Opera Vol.1" along with Nessun dorma (the last World Cup's theme?) and a lot of other good familiar songs. It will only cost you about 8 euro and it is legal!:D

Only came across this thread and was about to ask ask for a name, but did a little hunting myself and found the answer, so I thought i'd share instead in case it comes up again.

The piece features in the Chanel No.5 commercial with Nicole Kidman as well as the end scene in Ocean's 11. It is Clare de Lune by Debussy.

    Heya!
Did anyone here watch the BBC2 programme "Auchswitz"? It was on during their Holocaust Memorial series. Anyway there was a piece of classical music playing throughout the programme, violin and piano. It was amazingly good, so if anyne knows what it was, it would be VERY helpful if yu let me know!
    Thanks!

Um. I know it's a bit late answering this one, but I belive the piece you're looking for was Gorecki's Synphony No.3 (Synphony of Sorrowful Songs). I think they repeated a part of the piece over and over, rather than that being the complete piece. It was very effective though.

Nessun Dorma was used as the BBC's theme for World Cup Italia '90. I don't think it was the official theme (that was some Italian pop song). I'll forever think of it as the official one though, because it should have been.:D

Can anyone tell me the name of the piece and the perfromer for the current lyric FM TV advert

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,352 ✭✭✭funky penguin

An aria called Casta Diva from Bellini's opera 'Norma'.

I'd love to take credit for that and look super cool with my classical opera knowledge, but I just googled it. :o

Looking to find out the name of a piece of music/song from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. It's at one of the sad parts and has a kind of haunting, female voice (kinda Enya-ish).

Don't really have any more info, so not holding out much hope for any response. I could just buy the soundtrack, but its pricey enough considering i only want one tune.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 5,555 ✭✭✭tSubh Dearg

Which of the movies do you hear the most in? Enya did do one of the tracks for the Fellowship of the Ring if I remember correctly.

Possibly it could also be Golem's Song, which was sung by an Icelandic (i think) woman.

Emilíana Torrini. It's the end theme of TTT. I've got her five albums and rather like her stuff.

Is this the current music as this thread is quite old?

Pretty sure its still the same music.

Oh! Are you talking about the jingle that they use? I always assumed they had made it up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 451 ✭✭Doshea3

I think they mean the music on the radio/television ad they have now for the station. As far as I know the dum-dum-dummm, diddle-dum, dum, dum jingle is their own. I have forgotten who wrote it for them.

There are 2 ads for Lyric. One is a repeat one with the chap in the car and the other is a new one. It's this one I'm interested in. I know it's the same singer but the track doesn't sound the same?

That's called "The Beach Song" by Hans Zimmer. If you can't get it I'll e-mail you an MP3 of it.

    Seanie.

The name of this classical tune has been bugging me for years: it's always used by Sky Sports and other tv stations for trailers for an upcoming clash of titans e.g. like Liverpool vs Man Utd, Tyson vs Holyfield etc.

it's kind of a march, maybe from an opera and sounds like it could be by Wagner. it has a very recognisable melody in a minor key and features a full symphony orchestra. it's also a little reminiscent of darth vader's 'imperial march' music from star wars.

For anyone that knows music theory, the main melody goes something like AA CC EE CC AA CC E C, and then the same pattern up a forth DD FF AA FF DD FF A F.

    Any ideas????

Could it be the Knights' Dance from Prokofiev's ballet Romeo & Juliet?

anyone know what the piece is in the new ad for the renault magane? The ad itself is a load of car parts whizzing down a hallway and assembling as the car,a yellow sports megane. So anyone know what the piece is?? I was sitting here with my guitar when it came on and I figured out 2 bars from it just because of it's repetitive nature. It's a total shred piece and I'd love to see someone playing it on a violin! Vanessa May, cause she's hot! ahem! thanks! ^^

Anyone know the name of the classical piano piece that features throughout the film "I am Legend"?
The score was by James Newton Howard but i cant find the name of the piece.

It is likely a unique composition by JN Howard. The title will correspond to a track title on the soundtrack. I do not know what track it is featured in.

Would anyone know what piece is used toward the end of ''There Will Be Blood''?
I THINK it may be Brahms but I'm quite unsure!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 5,555 ✭✭✭tSubh Dearg

A quick google says that it could well be Brahms:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/There_Will_Be_Blood_(album)

though most of the score was composed by Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead (who's also the BBC's resident composer).

I'm afraid I can't tell you what Brahms' piece it is as I haven't seen the film yet :)

Here you go! Vivaldi Title The Four Seasons, Summer Movement 3: Presto I don't know who is playing it but it sounds like Nigel Kennedy judging by the speed!!!One of the best freebies with a newspaper (I think it was the Mail on Sunday)a few weeks ago, was the original Kennedy recording of the The Four Seasons:D

    Hi

The piece is the first movement from Brahms' Violin Concerto Op 77. But be warned, it is not on the soundtrack. You should be able to pick up a CD of it for under €10 :D

Yes but if you are around Dublin, I am sure that you will get a better (but older) recording by a famous violinist, cheap enough. My old friend Harry from Naxos will murder me if he saw this!!!:D

Anyone know the name of the song on the ad on BBC1 for "The Apprentice" ?

Kind of sounds like a the Darth Vader tune. Very Soviet, maybe tchaikovsky?

Really want to know what this is, if I make Tank Crewman I'd love to trundle around with this on! XD
