Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Make an appointment for Confession asap. It will have to be with a Bishop or above (the curates are all too busy absolving recent Yes voters). Also, you may be asked to show evidence..

Luckily Wicklow is far enough from Japan to make it not worth their while sending their fleet or the headlines could have been very different!

Were men allowed at this event ?
I ask because in Europe there are lots of nude beaches and men and women mix with no bother, it actually isn't sexual at all (hard to believe maybe) when everyone is naked.

My guess is men would have been STRICTLY banned from this event - they go on about how open Ireland is and really this just shows how conservative it is.

But fair enough, it was a good cause and raises awareness for cancer.

You'd want to be a very sad bastard to slag off a group of people for getting the kit off for a good cause like this.

I think all those slagging them off should go show them how it's done so with their Adonis like bodies.

There have been other mixed events elsewhere here, and no-one's eye was taken out by a male appendage either.

Love how you use the phrase "My guess is" towards men being banned, then go on to say it really shows how conservative Ireland is.

Also it was a charity organised event, if they feel that women would be more comfortable doing it together and could then bring in more numbers so be it. Was their decision. This is not some sort of example to use to fuel your opinion about Ireland.

The Charity also organised a Women's mini-marathon last week, men weren't even allowed to enter! Portmarnock Golf Club only allows male members, women can't even join! I tried to use the women's bathroom on a night out in Dublin recently and was quickly kicked out, despite the fact that unisex bathrooms are found in some bars in France! Ireland. So Conservative.

It was a fecking charity event to break a world-record. Anybody trying to use it as something more in the context of our society is a muppet.

I was quarter the way down the path to do a spot of fishing, not on the beach but to the right on the rocks. Got a yelp…“come back” thought someone had plowed into my car.

Guy just mentioned something about a charity event. It was only that night when I saw the scenes on tv. Fair play to all who took part.

    It was amazing.

I don't have the little waist I once had but that's ok because I'm nearly 8 months pregnant. There is a large ugly scar on my bulging stomach. It's from where a surgeon cut me open to remove an enormous tumor from my womb a few years ago.

I recovered but spent years worrying about the cancer returning and me dying. I certainly never thought I'd be able to get pregnant.

So to the misogynistic bitter tw@ts posting here - sorry if my current appearance isn't to your taste but I think I'm (and anyone else is) entitled to celebrate.

There's a lot of women-only spaces on the continent as well, although mostly within saunas an semi-private locations.

Question is, if it had been mixed, how many women would decided not to have gone? And how many men would have gone just because it's a chance to perv on some naked women and show them their live dick-pics?

So they got their clothes off and ran into the sea, it takes courage as I am not sure I could do it if it was a male event, my body is fine but I would still be self conscious with it being public.
These women did it for themselves and for others, it is easy to slap down other people who do stuff one wouldn't themselves but they didn't do anyone any harm and I am sure it gave them a mental lift and they feel good for doing it, so well done to them.

Not a slag just an observation.

I'm not saying I'm a looker myself it's just that you'd never see any good looking men/women doing it that's all.

Absolutely delighted this happened and congrats to all those that took part.
Getting in the nip in public can be a tough obstacle to overcome. From experience, once you realise everyone is in the same boat, part of the fear goes away. Then once you liberating it is, you start to feel good.

I was in Wicklow Town on Saturday morning getting the young lad's hair cut and the craic around the place as the ladies headed off for the swim was incredible to see.

It was like a massive hen party with stretch hummers, open top buses, pink feather boas and bottles of prosecco (for the dutch courage) all heading down the main street at 11 in the am!

Fair play to all involved as it looked like it was a great day and earned a huge amount for a well deserving charity.

It's not as common as you would think, there are places that are Nude, Germany in particular with its FKK.

Did you not go to the big naked party out in Dalkey 2 weeks ago ?

Women- let’s get naked and have a laugh breaking a world record and raise some money for charity while we’re at it.

Men of boards- YOU LOOK FAT!

    Jesus wept lads.

They're raising money for some fat cat earning a fat salary at the top of some charity. I'll hold back on the celebrations if you don't mind.
    it was for
Aoibheanns pink ribbon , I suggest you look it up before making silly comments

So we should stop all men cos some are perverts? I do get what you are saying but can you not see if you apply that metric across the board, it would look incredibly sexist/racist/prejudicial/anykindof - phobic?

No, no, you’re wrong there. If you actually look closer and listen to those in the know here in After Hours, it wasn’t about having craic or raising much needed funds for a very worthy cancer charity.

It’s actually about oppressing men and furthering their FEMINAZI agendas! Because everything is about that if you listen to those voices here.

Agree the pervert comment is a bit too much.

But look here, all the lads making sly digs about the women's bodies. Then complaining no men were part of it. It's gas really. Clearly the women must have felt more comfortable without men partaking and hence drawing bigger numbers to break the record and raise money for a good cause.

Looking at how some of the lads here are ripping into them, no wonder they would feel more comfortable and less paranoid without men taking part.

    So we should....

At this point your already putting words in my post. If I said "we should..." do something, then I said it. If I didn't, I didn't.

Well, if we stop the ones who are using phrases like "gelatinous arses" and "uggos" using phrases like this, it would be a start.

It's a practicality. You can have specifics without being -ist or -phobic. If I specify I want a female model to model female lingerie or bikinis is it sexist? If I say only people over 18 can buy beer, is it discrination?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Hey! Men aren't sexist. Phwoar... TITS! ;)

To any men who wanted to attend. Just imagine the shrinkage after being in the Irish Sea for 5 minutes :)

I think this was a great event and well worthy of great praise for the organisers, the participants, the record breaking achievement and for the charitable cause that was intended to benefit.

However, by the OP posting in After Hours the subject was bound to attract the typically robust and ribald commentary and childish remarks that makes AH what it is.

For a more meaningful and less snarky discussion, a posting in one of the other areas of Boards would probably have been better places to lodge a thread. That said, by and large the sniggering here was quite mild and less puerile than can often be seen on AH.

Remember, AH also stands for Aresholes!

It's a good point actually but ... the beaches Im talking about are in Spain, not a bother , all mixed spaces and you barely even notice everyone is naked.

Perverts don't bother going cos the sexuality is taken out of it, it might not sound sensible but it's my experience.

Not this weekend. For the first time possibly ever, the Irish sea was incredibly warm. Swimming in it was a dream. A mixed gender event would be awkward for most though. I'm happy they got such a great day for it!

The attitude of some posters is disappointing but hardly surprising. The actions of CRC and Console, as well as the other large charities who have had no problem remunerating themselves handsomely are entirely too blame for the cynicism directed towards the sector.

But if there is water and Portlaoise for 2500 people a lot of the charity money gets spent on water and portaloos.

What are you saying about Portlaoise?

there is a nudist beach in wicklow near brittas bay. there is no sign to say it is one. i found out because i was walking my dog there one day and came across about 10 people together in the nip .

    Pun intentional?

Great to see. Well done ladies! :) And so what if they weren’t all supermodels? Isnt that rather the point of the event?

And nude swimming venues and times are now starting to really increase around the country after years of stagnation, the McQuaid era 1935 laws on public nudity have been hugely changed and we will be designating official nude bathing areas/beaches from this summer.

Yes, Ireland is changing for the better. :) Nude swimming and sunbathing is very liberating.

Isn't public nudity technically illegal in Ireland?

    Great isn't it ?

I think a pair of togs is the most stupid idea, you get out, its soaking wet, you lie on the towel - it gets soaked around the tog area .... nude and it just dries of so quickly and you don;t have to carry home a big wet towel and wet togs.

I hope it does become more acceptable in ireland ...still a bit to go ...

I wouldn't be a McQuaid fan. Not many are nowadays! :-)
But do you really Ireland was special in that regard? Do you think that other countries weren't like this? Do you think prudishness was the sole preserve of the RC religion?
Victorian British had governed us just a few decades beforehand - not exactly known for their liberality in such matters.
We have a way to go with this yes - but self-loathing is not part of that process I would hope.
