Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Buffering like hell on Firestick. Unusable at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,916 ✭✭✭Marhay70

I had to reset my firestick recently but the VPN doesn't give me a choice to sign back in only to sign up, contacted Keep Solid through their support channel but still waiting for a reply five days later, even though they promise to reply within an hour. Anybody else had this problem and how was it solved, if it was?

Same here regarding firestick. There is actually an option to sign in but it's hard to see. Top right corner

I had to do the same and then it said my 5 slots were already used up. Got in touch with keepsolid and they were back to me later that day and very fast to sort anything out. I have found their customer support great.

I was having this problem but on the shield.
Removing updated version of the app and replacing with the factory version did the trick.

Iplayer app I mean not keepsolid

I have two firesticks running, one had the problem you mention so I applied the fix and the other was firing up as normal. Now both fire up and go through all the normal procedures to sign me in but neither will play content.
It seems to be IPlayer only as ITV and MY 5 work fine.

Mine was working last night after resetting and turning off auto-update but BBC do seem to be cracking down.
I will check it again tonight when I get home.
After a few years of never a bother it's getting tougher of late

BBC and Netflix have always been the most difficult to watch with a vpn, if you want an easy option for both then get a smart dns

I have a VPN with smart dns

Is it as simple as reconnecting to your wifi and use the smart dns?

Would this do away with the need for the VPN to be connected for IPTV etc?

What VPN is recommended to cover 3 devices (Firestick, Android Phone and Windows Computer) where speed and reliability is the main concern, price being a secondary concern only?

In particular the Firestick, used for streaming via catch up apps, Netflix and IPTV.

Just my paranoia but I prefer a vpn (tinfoil hat too!).
Netflix and Hulu work fine with ipv6 off anyway

my smart dns is set up with an irish and uk address and works at device or router level, vpn for iptv is a different thing but best not to go into that on the thread

So go with the smart dns on my mesh router and keep VPN on for other activities ;)

Yes it's fine as long as you keep ipv6 disabled

IPlayer came back to full screen for me today but it's buffering constantly, unwatchable. I have good broadband speed so it's not that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,365 ✭✭✭✭McMurphy

Why do the BBC put so much effort into restricting the iPlayer and enforcing the Geo lock does anyone know?

It's not like we in Ireland don't get their TV channels? Maybe they should look at introducing a version of the iPlayer to coincide with their sky/,virgin packages that we pay for here.

Maybe even offer a sub only available version, so if your paying sky legit you get access? I dunno if that's possible even.

I'd imagine it's for legal reasons. Probably something to do with not having a broadcasting licence here.

And because they sell their content to English-language TV stations all over the world. If iplayer was freely and easily available all over the world then BBC wouldn't earn as much revenue from their content

Isn't there some sort of EU law stating that it should be viewable all over the EU?

I don't think so. Unless it's a recent change you needed a vpn to watch RTE player outside the island of Ireland

If you reside in the jurisdiction it should be available outside it

I think it only applies if you pay for a service. Bbc and rte are free

Is the bbc iplayer issue fixed ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,189 ✭✭✭ThePott

I'm watching something on iPlayer right now through Firestick.
I will say at times I find it works better using the non-streaming servers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 423 ✭✭whiz

Is the specific BBC iPlayer server working or do you have to select another server in the UK ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,189 ✭✭✭ThePott

It was working for me earlier, the other UK ones were working as well.
There has been a few times where it has stopped to buffer but aside from that been fine.

I find sometimes with iPlayer that even if it says "Something is Wrong" if you just try again without changing server it even works.

I find that if I've accidentally tried to watch something on a non uk server or my own IP and I get that error, that I will continue to get that error for that specific episode I try to watch, but anything else is ok. After a while it will fix itself out but typically never works immediately after an attempt that brings up that message.

It worked for me this morning when I immediately tried it again but I agree, it's wildly inconsistent.

Hi I have keepsolid VPN trying to use it on iPad 5 to access Netflix but keeps showing the Irish one, is there something I'm doing wrong? Instructions on their site are fairly straightforward

I had problems accessing other Netflix but turning off ipv6 sorted it.
I don't know much about ipads but I think they don't allow this on the device so you might have to apply it to the router (how to go about this I think will depend on the router you have)
