Any idea which server for channel 4, or is that possible.

You can't use a VPN for Channel 4. I got it to work by registering a UK address.

Yes. When I first bought it 2 years ago, it didn't work for a bit but now all my traffic streaming on firestick goes through the vpn.

Excellent, can pair this with my Shudder sub to finally get all the good US shows on Firestick :)

    Thanks OP

Can confirm, I have this for over a year now and it's fantastic. I paid something like €40 for it and it was worth that easily.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,085 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

lol I should have read OP more carefully, I entered the code they had on the link page "JUST20", rather than "VPNDEAL"

Was wondering why it €18.25 instead of €14 ... still nice deal :D

and here I was on the verge of signing up to NordVPN for €12/month

Doesn't work on BBC iPlayer for me. Have tried it on 3 different devices. All show an error 'This content is not currently available'

Won't let me complete the purchase, no reason given. Do you have to pay with with paypal?

I got that as well, tried ITV and that worked. Had a quick glance at the bbc faq and it says they try to block vpn's but I'd guess there's a workaround. Only have it 5 mins myself and am interested in being able to access bbc iplayer too

Just got this and have iplayer working on windows laptop.

    Excellent bargain thanks OP

Ok I managed to get it to work on my PC by logging in to the app on windows store. I clicked on servers, hit the streaming tab at the top and selected bbc iplayer.

It still didn't work on Chrome but did on Firefox, so I may just need to clear my cache on Chrome. You do need to have a bbc account but I just used a random valid postcode. I used a London postcode rather than the usual northern Ireland one.

Point to note, I had logged in on my browser earlier, but when I installed the app, it also counted as a device so there are now 2 devices in my account for the VPN so I will need to delete the earlier one to free up a slot. Not a big deal but just a heads up if you are setting up a few devices tonight.

Works fine on firestick for BBC IPlayer. Crackle also works with it.

After installing on my PC, it says I have 4 slots out of 5 available, i.e. up to 5 devices in total.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭FluffPiece

5 devices per sub. You can add additional slots per account but it's far far cheaper to sign up to the deal again with a different email address for the €14 deal

Bought, downloaded the Windows app as mentioned above, all golden. Got 3 minutes into an iPlayer episode and now seemingly no server will connect. Anyone having similar issues before I do a paypal chargeback?

Ended up paying 16.80 with the tax added on? Was there a way to avoid it? Not that I mind paying the extra 2.80.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭FluffPiece

I saw that Scott, but if you pay with Paypal it's cheaper. $15 with Paypal

Try clearing browser cache or use a different browser to test.

Some people use it to avoid location tracking by search engines, facebook etc but I myself was on the lookout for a cheap one to get around geolock restrictions such as iplayer and down the line maybe netflix etc.

I had access to iplayer via other means but it's worth it to access a better quality source from bbc site itself.

Other's use it for torrenting purposes, to restrict available info to their own ISP's

That's up to you to decide. It's less than €14 if you pay with Paypal and it's a lifetime sub. Could be worse ways to spend €14. I haven't used it long enough to say it doesn't have issues, but someone else may have advice for you to make up your mind.

Yeah I used my revolut had no idea using PayPal avoids tax lesson learned

"Redeem" page link on Vpn site not working for me - anyone else?

Edit: you enter tbr code via the "My Account" page
    , not the "Redeem" page

No. A 'Lifetime' offer usually only means 3 - 5 years, so you may only end up getting one year of use out of it. Also, NordVPN would be in a completely different class than this.

If just buying to get Netflix and BBC iPlayer, then you may as well wait as there may be different offers in 2 years time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,687 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

This runs automatically on new firestick which is very handy.

Suckit surely a Lifetime Means life or a 100 years ?

No, unfortunately that's not what lifetime means in these instances. It is the lifetime of the software. They could kill it and bring out a new version in 3-5 years, or many other things could happen. Or they could rebrand as VPN Unlimited (subsidiary company) and that would also kill any lifetime licence. But the deal is still a good deal if you don't have a vpn.

Honestly, how do people trust VPNs? Sure, if you don't mind some random person / company literally being able to access all your data then fine.

VPN in this sense is just a glorified proxy. The VPN provider can see all your traffic, and do with it what they want - including logging.

Anyone with half a bit of common sense wouldn't use it, but sure if it enables you to watch what you want on the iPlayer.......

The only thing they log from me is what I watch on firestick..... Which is a very strange but boring mix. I do concur that I wouldn't be sending all my regular traffic through one.

Oh no, they'll log me watching MOTD tonight, what ever shall I do...

I won't logging in to check my bank details via a VPN.

It's not your bank details they are after.

How reliable is this for getting onto Netflixes or other streaming services through a laptop?

I understand your point, merely saying I'll basically be using it for accessing the likes of the iplayer and then disconnecting when done.
