Any good deals on beans similar to the discountcoffee one last year, I ran out recently. thanks

I've tried these - they work pretty well in the De'Longhi

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07X11WZJZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

not going to be roasted last week amazing but decent and a fraction of the price.

compares favourably to say Lavazza Rossa but cheaper.

(smoother than Lavazza Rossa - medium roast -> 3.5 / 5 intensity I would put it at)

Recently, the ground coffee beans in mine are looking a bit damp when the are done. So when I open it to empty the machine, some of the ground beans are still clinging to the inside of it meaning its way harder to clean.

I have changed to a different brand recently, could that have made a difference?

that's always been the case with mine, there's sometimes a bit of mould on the grounds at the bottom of the container. How would they not be damp, they have steam forced through them in the machine. I just rinse the container under a running tap.

Yeah I know on the steam, just it was never like that before is all

Just wanted to check on the model people have.
The one linked in the original post is the Magnifica ESAM 4200, it doesn't seem to be available new any longer but loads on the warehouse, is it still a good choice or is a newer/different model a better option.

I'm fully aware of the different warehouse conditions and associated risks/bargains

Got one new from Amazon for the wife about a month ago @~£;230. I think Amazon just run out of them every now and then and they are back in stock soon enough. If you don't want to chance a warehouse one I'd say wait a bit and they will have them back in. I was waiting a few weeks to pick it up at the lower price so you might have to wait a bit to combine availability at a good price.

It's still available new from DeLonghi. I had it in my basket today about to buy when the price went from £250 to £330.

I have very hard water. Am I throwing money away by getting an expensive machine like this?

Kettles barely last 6 months in this house.

I'm in Meath and would be in a hard water area too and haven't had any issues with it so far. I've no idea how the machine looks on the inside, but it still functions fine after 5/6 years.
I've gone through a few kettles in the years I've had the machine.
I fill a brita jug from the tap, and use the brita jug to fill kettle and the coffee machine.
I descale the coffee machine when it notifies me to do so.

It was available yesterday at about £249, I almost got one but wanted to read some more about it first, then it was gone when I went back today.

I was looking at the warehouse ones too, but I think they are actually used, not just opened and returned, so I'm thinking of waiting a week or two to see if they come back in.

They had 1 in stock for 251 an hour or so ago but sold fast.

Used like new from warehouse will be just box damage
Worth checking the european Amazon sites too they can be a lot cheaper sometimes

Hi All, my Delonghi isin't warming up, it's slowly got worse and worse but is now stuck doing what it's doing in below video constantly. Has anyone else had this issue? It's doing it through every phase now as previously it would engage the cycle after 5 then 10 then 20 seconds. Has anyone else experienced this or have any solutions? I've reset back switch and main power switch, hasn't made any difference.

You can actually put a water filter in the water tank of most (if not all) Delonghi machines. Would do the same job as the Brita:

    https://www.delonghi.com/en-int/products/coffee/coffee-makers/coffee-maker-accessories/waterfilter

Also don't forget to regularly use descaler on the machine, in particular if living ion a hard water area.

    +1 on this.

The machine setup runs through a water hardness setting and this then sets up an interval descaling alert via a flashing panel light.

I live in quite a hard water area, my interval via the machine at 6/7 shots per day is @4weeks.

My machine is at least 6 years old at this and most definitely could be as old as 8 and is still running fine.

Had a scare there yesterday morning..

Machine complained that grounds were full but grounds bin wouldn’t come out along with drip tray etc.

Then noticed the infuser unit was much lower and wouldn’t move. Tried yanking and pulling infuser unit but it was really jammed.

Long story short - had to plug out plug, leave it 30 seconds and the plug it back in and let it adjust itself back into place.

    Turns out it’s pretty common..

Yep same happened to me, a fair amount of yanking done before going to Google!

test if the mechanism in the infuser is moving up and down to full extension smoothly/easily

might need a good hot soak if not

Thanks, the infuser was out yesterday for a soak. Sounds like an electrical issue tbh.

Bought one on Amazon yesterday @ £249. Did no research other than reading through this thread. Had a Nespresso the last few years but the quality of the coffee wasn't great so wanted to get a bean to cup. Looking forward to it now.

I have this one and love it, having done a bit of a comparison, there isn't a huge difference between them, I think the one you post is just a newer model compared to the original. Go for it, you wont look back!

the only issue with that - coming from Italy is the plug issue - well its not really an issue but its worth noting.

I recently bought a Krupps blender and forgot that i needed to get an adapter when it arrived.

Not a major concern really, just thought i would mention it

I bought one earlier from amazon Germany 320 euro inc delivery, almost 100 cheaper than amazon uk. anyhow seeing as I will be moving on from my Nespresso machine (used daily for the last 2.5 yrs & still working perfect) can someone recommend some beans. I like strong flavour but not necessarily a bitter taste, I don't like any kind of flavoured coffee, probably a single roast would be best, last time I bought beans was in the 90's

    I get beans from discountcoffee.ie.

Some great value there. My current beans are Saol Caife Temple Bar

I went with this one from Amazon DE in the end, just had to get a plug adapter.
Worked out about €315 with delivery.

My Magnifica arrived this week. Delighted with it.

Mine is out if warranty and has developed a fault , It grinds the beans and just before it starts adding water it hesitates/stalls and the Water Empty light comes on and that it is , It will complete descaling process fine but will not make a coffee. Any ideas?

I just use citric acid, can be bought in the chemist and will last you a long time, probably years. I have very soft water and have no limescale but perform the descaling when prompted as it'll do no harm.

I have one of the original ones of these in an office environment for the past 5 years or so. It has got a desperate hammering really, but still works perfect. Great buy!

I took a punt on a Melitta Varianza from Amazon's Italian warehouse. The condition was described as Used-Acceptable with a long list of possible damage. It's €750 new and I paid €217. I fully expected it to be in tatters, and that if it worked at all it would be a bonus. When it arrived, the box was damaged and it had obviously been sold and returned and the screen had slight water damage. But other than that, it was perfect. Nothing was missing and it doesn't have a scratch. Best bargain I ever got. If anyone else fancies a punt, there is another one available for €240. Don't mind the three star review on Amazon. This is a quality machine and a steal at this price.

Does it really require a quick blast in the microwave?
Is that normal for bean to cup

No, it doesn't need microwavng. In the settings you can change the temperature for the milk and water/coffee for each type of drink. All machines that automate the frothing and steaming of the milk will struggle to get the milk to very high temperatures, but this machine does a very good job. I also use the insulated cappuchino glasses from Lidl.

How long have you had yours? Seems most of the bad reviews are for faults that start to arrive after a while. Amazon are usually pretty good though with returns or issues

I only have it a couple of weeks, but it is a solid unit. Melitta are a very reputable German brand. I read up on the machine and came across a coffee drinkers forum where the machine was discussed and the topic of the bad Amazon reviews were mentioned. The people on the forum, who seemed to be in the know, reckoned that the people who gave it low scores were clueless. Most of the complaints seem to be about the water tank being too small - which is fair, as it is only 1.2L, and that the machine sometimes complains about not having beans in the hopper, when it does. I haven't had this problem. If I was paying €750 for the machine, I might be a bit more picky, but at €220 I'll live with having to fill it with water twice a day.

Better looking, quieter, stays in ready mode for longer.
And I prefer the smaller tank as you remember to put fresh water into it which makes for a better coffee
