Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

He's playing with Western Force in their sort of exhibition games, hasn't been snapped up by any of the Super Rugby teams

Is the Aussie scrumhalf Irish? Sounds more like that kinda comment.

Yeah he looks like a very talented prospect more in the Conor Murray mould than Casey and to be starting and a dominant figure in an Aussie side that beat baby blacks 24-0 is quite impressive. Looking forward to how he goes against Casey

Would he not be tied to Aus now, having played at this level?

No. U20 level doesnt tie you to a country.

Speaking of scrumhalves, the Welsh 9 was fantastic against Argentina

Rules changed last year to stop U20's being the nominated side (Wales & England both had this set up for a while) but for Australia, like us it's always been their A team

Does anyone know why Ireland had 3 hookers in the line up on Tuesday? were they planning on using one as a backrow incase of injury?

    Martin, Mckee, adamson

28 man match day squads as part of a world rugby trial, the extended squad was only 32 players.

Fits my narrative of a disparity in coaching and attitude.

England caught behind the gainline very frequently and gave very easy metres despite being a full 5kgs heavier per man.

They and their coaching staff seemed to assume they could use their size to bully past us where as we used footwork and leg drive to get our yards

Just watched the match. The replacements for the injured players played really well.
I thought Clarkson and Hodnett really stood out.
There will probably some rotation for the Oz match.

Team up , same team except Russel into 15 for Hughes , French injured , strange they haven't put Flannery to 15 and Healy into start after his performance. Healys us kicking game really helped us out when he came on

England are a massive team, we couldn't play direct rugby against them. Don't know anything about the Aussies u20 team but would suspect they aren't carrying the same weight and our breakdown was so good against England that we might be hoping to hang onto the ball as opposed to a more hail mary territory game.

Looking forward to this game, the first match was a very high standard from Ireland.

I always find it strange with Penny, and French injuries - when a player comes on for a relatively small amount of time finishes off the game walks off the pitch, looks fine and then news comes out the are ruled out for a whole tournament...

Australian scrum is dodgy enough apparently. Stating the obvious but either they are very good or the NZ team is their worst crop in a long time.

It's the victory over the all blacks, was not expecting Ireland to be slight favourites. Just from a purely money making point of view, seeing those odds on Australia got me interested!!

Red, think that's pretty harsh - definitely a yellow. Put alot of consideration into it though

  • Registered Users Posts: 139 ✭✭DonVito

Did I miss some sort of rule change? Every high tackle is direct contact to the neck. That's why it's a high tackle. So all high tackles are red now?

I was equally confused when he yellowed the Aussie player. He said the player is significantly ducking down and the tackler couldn't do anything about it..........and then he gave him a yellow anyway.

I'm assuming I have missed a rule change because the commentators commended both calls.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,989 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

Red, fairly harsh IMO, but those are the directives

I can't believe that is a red card.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,233 ✭✭✭ClanofLams

Seems on the harsh side but they are clamping down. Almost impossible to win now you would think.

if thats a red card no game will ever finish 15 v 15

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,708 ✭✭✭ScissorPaperRock

    Should be a yellow

    Game over now

  • Registered Users Posts: 379 ✭✭Lucas44

Don’t think that’s a red but at the same time I don’t think tupous seat belt tackle was a yellow not much he could do when player is ducking into contact

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,989 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

Rugby Union is morphing into some sort of tag rugby hybred

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,722 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

    That's a mental decision.

Player's ducking down, doesn't look like there's any intent, it's just poor timing and bad technique.

This is one of those things where inconsistencies in judgements that are absolutely infuriating.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,293 ✭✭✭All_in_Flynn

    Harsh red.

Look heavy legged today anyway I think. Australia defence looks very strong.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,501 ✭✭✭Paul Smeenus

There's been a strong directive about safety and any tackles)contact to the head/neck. Not left with any option, really.

The first contact was to the shoulder, the player was low and the arm rode up. It was a relatively light impact.

I thought that might be a yellow. I'm ery surprised it's a red, as someone else posted - if this is the standard then we are rarely going to see matches finish with 30 players on the pitch.

Will be cited now and if upheld his tournament might be over. This game most likely is.

That was a red all day, the player even knew it as he commited the tackle
