Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

But that's not the time slot most people have a problem with. There aren't actually many complaining about the 8+ times. Most people are mainly p***ed off that Will Leahy is gone.

I'm not so exclude me from that opinion.

Why can't they just move existing presenters around the schedule...like putting Tubridy back on breakfast and FINALLY giving Dave Fanning the old G. Ryan slot?? Or giving John Clarke The daily golden hour, with Larry playing the current hits at the weekend?

The existing 2FM audience does not want to hear the iRadio type presenters...the majority audience are still there from the 80s/90s anyway.

does John Clarke still have the sunday show?

Is Larry still on lunchtimes? Ricochet has stated his show remains unchanged starting at 2pm.

When is the show with Bernard O'Shea and Jennifer Maguire starting?

Larry is moving to weekends. Too

It's getting confusing with changes being announced one by one.

    Is anyone actually LEAVING 2FM?

  • Registered Users Posts: 62 ✭✭joi99

Funny that with all the changes going on at 2fm that Dan Healy is ignoring the elephant in the room that is Tubs.

Will Leahy would be a very decent replacement for KC on Todayfm when he leaves. I'd love that to happen.

Hes still a practicing solicitor. Coupled with the fact hes not Dublin based and today fm have no limerick studios (afaik) can't see it happening

Craig Doyle in the evenings after drivetime

    Kidding.

Although I wouldn't put it past them. :(

I think the plan has badly backfired for 2fm, Nobody seems happy with the new schedule. Will Leahy certainly seems to be more popular than the jnlrs say he is. Nobody seems excited about the Nicky Byrne show.

Communicorp do in Raheen (Spin SW), but physical availabilty of studios may not be on their side depending on how they're set up.

Its the only thing I listen to on 2fm and the electric disco whit jenie is a very slick show. A dj who should be used more. Maybe todayfm replacement for kc

Jenny Green replaced toff jock Colm Hayes on his pre-Christmas holiday, the poor fella needed a break after watching people cycle against suicide, in the autumn and she was woeful. She's good at what she does, leave her there

Let me guess, she was parachuted into Colm's slot to do a talk show when clearly she's a music DJ? I mean, what could possibly go wrong eh?

    *sigh*

Will Leahy's last show last night. Finished off with this, which I thought was quite nice. Will miss his show a lot.

No, if that was a true simile it would be a far more drastic makeover, not an ineffectual movement of the Titanic's deckchairs.

Anybody else think it's pathetic that 2fm are acting as if their new schedule is the third secret of fatima or something ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,198 ✭✭✭buckfasterer

The only reason I tuned in this morning was because Rick was on instead of Tubs. Tubs should have been number 1 out the door instead of messing with shows people actually liked listening to. How he still has a job on tv and radio is beyond belief.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 617 ✭✭✭telecinesk

I guess the deciding factor of these "improvements" will be next jnlr's and the physical revenue generated by their advertisers? Im no accountant but I assume that stuff matters even if rte is "still" a public service.`??

2fm never was and never will be a decent station.
No matter how much tweaking it gets it will forevermore be a terrible station.
What exactly is it's demographic? Also, there is far too much talk on each show and not enough decent music.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 549 ✭✭✭vince

2FM will never be the same again. The 2 best shows on the station, Irelands Biggest Jukebox and The More Music drive with Will Leahy. Disgraceful Behaviour.

John Clarke quit live on air yesterday. His show was reasonably decent down the years, admittedly I dip in if I am in the car or doing odd jobs around the house with the radio on. It was real music he played.

I loved his comment saying that the only person still playing music on the radio is Larry Gogan.

He hit the nail on the head when he said "Radio now is all about Kim Kardashian, comedians telling jokes and TV celebrities — even last week I was listening to a music radio station and they spent 20 minutes talking about cleaning an oven".

Looks like this is the end of 2fm as we know it.....only a matter of time before it disintegrates with all the changes.

Interesting that he is the producer of the Will Leahy show and is a former head of 2fm.

It blew me away when he said that they found out about their move to the weekend via a press release!!!!

Relations between the production/presenters and management must be horrendous. Not a happy place to work, IMO.

I'm just listening back to JC now ... He didn't hold back did he ??? I'm glad someone said it rather than all the presenters spouting a different version of the party line !!

I just don't think that the station strategy is very strong ..... Why are they targeting the youth market when overall listenership figures are falling in that category ?? And that segment of the market is already flooded !! Would they not be better to target the over 30 market that are looking for music with a bit of talk radio thrown in ??

I've been listening to 2fm for over 30 years and even though I flirted with other stations over the years, I always came back to 2fm ... I'm so disappointed with this new direction (which seems aimless at the moment)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

Any chance of a link to JC? And at roughly what time in the recording is it?

The quotes attributed to him above are pretty spot on. Very, very few stations that play music anymore. Spin SW are good at the weekends, Tony Fenton, Colm O'Sullivan, Paul McLoone... other than that I'm struggling to think of others (obviously there're probably more on Dublin radio).

You can kind of see where stations are coming from though. They know that most people have access to every song they could possibly want to listen to in their pockets now. I guess the thinking is they have to offer something that an iPod can't or people won't listen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,524 ✭✭✭finisklin

    From here

Strange that it hasn't been picked up by the mainstream media....yet.

Your right in that.....I'm shocked that there are people out there who actually care what Kim Kardashian is up to.

The Colm Hayes show with the Lottie Ryan celebrity updates are geared towards that dumbed down demographic.

In fairness to 2fm management John Clarkes show wouldn't really fit in with the new schedule. In saying that Larry Gogan at the weekend won't either.

If i was in charge of RTE radio, I would put jc and his jukebox on Radio 1 after the sport on Sunday evenings

Just thought you'd like to know that 2fm and Dan Healy are so worried about this " little" petition page that they had it reported and taken down off Facebook. So much for freedom of speech, but fear not because there's another page up and running already under the same name "keep will leahy on drive time". #bringbackwill

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,504 ✭✭✭bbability

I've been watching various threads here and Facebook where a fan page has gone viral since yesterday with comments from listeners to his show. Setting aside the Will Leahy thing for a minute, John had many people listening to his show across the country who were doing various things with their Sunday as they listened. The one thing stands out for me is his show was actually doing what is was meant to do on a Public Broadcaster, it was providing a public service, something which RTE and Dan Healy seemed to have forgotten. I do not believe for one minute that RTE have taught this whole revamp through. It's not a commercial station, it's a public broadcaster and therefore should provide a public service. What it did yesterday from reading the comments on Facebook is remove that service from many peoples lives. Don't forget we all don't have the comforts of internet, cable tv. Some people like the simple life of the wireless on in the kitchen on a Sunday while they go about their business. It's wrong to think that everyone has every song on their iPod. If that was the case most of the country wouldn't be listening to radio at any time. And that wasn't really what Johns show was about. People liked his music selection but they also liked to text him, listen to him talk about his various pieces of music and life in general and probably the listener could relate to from times past. His show connected with the listener and the JNLRs are the proof in the pudding. This is the theasus for Public Service Broadcasting gone wrong.

Paddy mckenna was awful yesterday compared to will leahy. how they expect Colm Hayes to actually retain Will's audience is beyond me. I think this could be a big mistake but Hayes has to be slotted in somewhere as he probably is on a permanent contract with RTE unlike some of the others.

2FM it seems is determined to down its ratings completely!! The "new schedule" is shaping as such -

    9am - Tubridy - Blah
11am - Nicky Byrne - who is going to listen to this? Give him a Saturday/Sunday evening slot kids can listen to
2pm - Rick O'Shea - not bad in his own right but the painful Cormac Battle makes it a turn off
4.30pm - Colm Hayes - How can anybody listen to the condescending git?!

The weekend doesn't get much better, only that Will Leahy and Larry Gogan are now there. Aside from that you're left with the annoyance that is Paddy McKenna. How did anybody ever think this annoying git would be appealing to listen to? Sounds like a chipmunk with the personality of a tortoise.

I for one will be making more use of my alternative channels from here on - good bye 2fm!!

I hope Jenny Greene's shows stay on the 2fm schedule, I had hoped she would land a weekday slot on the new schedule. 2fm should be a music station and she is an excellent music show presenter.
