I remember in the 2009 election there was this furore about a young one running for FG who we as very professional looking on posters but had some outrageous pictures on Facebook, out partying and the like.

    Anyone remember her ?

I have absolutely no problem with the offspring of trough guzzlers running for election.

I have a major problem with cretinous voters who vote for such candidates on the basis that their parent did them a favour (or claims to have done them a favour) thirty years ago!

Its an Irish voters trait to keep voting for family dynasties. Got all het up about leaving the Kingdom of Lords and Monarchy. Then go and keep voting for the offspring. And give about about it as if it is the politicians fault for getting themselves elected, as if the candicate cast all the votes. Funny folk the Irish.

    Just a matter of interest.

What possesses a young person who actually wants to make a difference run for FG or FF?

I'm sceptical straight away of the motives.

    There's a combination of factors I'd say.
Some people generally like a party be it FG, FF, SF or Labour.
    They may be family connections.
They want to make a difference and feel the best way to do it would be with a party.(A whole bunch of independents wouldn't achieve much).
They might be after the party vote and see it as an easy way in. SF always run some one who's always giving out in my area. They generally get in and then fall out with the party.
They are a lot of reasons.

    Sister I think

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Very clever of her, appealing to only socialists who are feminist and only feminists who are socialists. A good 9 or 10 votes coming her way.
