If you're in first you'll survive just fine! Keep hydrated and try to sleep on the flight definitely.

14 hours..... 2 films = 3-4 hours, 2 meal services = ~4 hours, 6 hour sleep. Sorted

14.5hrs is the longest I've done, Dubai to Brisbane. I've done this in economy, business and first class over the years. My tips are:

- no alcohol, before or during the flight.
- plenty of water.
- noise cancelling headphones and a couple of good movies.
- get out of your seat and stand/walk as much as possible

I did the reverse of this flight in November and then the onward trek to Dublin... in Emirates economy! I wouldn't usually sleep on such long flights so I went to a chemist in Brisbane and asked very nicely what they had that might help me sleep! Got some lovely tablets.. took 2 after the first meal service.. next thing I know it was the breakfast meal service and then shortly arriving into Dubai...

Managed to survive the westbound journey, but now sitting on the return flight from LAX. Scheduled time is about 16 hours!

Gotta say that I'm not a lover of super long haul flights &#55357;&#56842;

Hi,

Our travel office is booking flights for me and have come back with S-Economy class, what does "S" stand for? I'm supposed to fly premium economy.
It's with Aer Lingus.

Aer Lingus don't have premium economy as far as I know.

Might want to ask you travel office. EI do not have premium economy. Perhaps they have booked you an exit row and/or upgraded your meal?

EI do have an 'offer' where you pay a little extra to select a seat in the first 6 rows of Economy.....but it is that exact same seat/service as the rest of the cabin.

S is just an expensive economy fare - one that might still get GC points after their ridiculous exclusion of all normal fare classes.

We are a family of 4 flying from ATL to DUB with Delta on an A330-300. It is an overnight flight back to Europe and I'm wondering what are the best seating option with a 7 YO and 10YO?
The A330 has a 2-4-2 configuration.
We have 39A&B and 40A&B at present but 29C,D,F & G are available. Would these be better?

Traveling to Atlanta with Delta from T2 in 2 weeks and I am wondering what snacks I can bring on board myself for the kids.

Can you bring fruit if it will be consumed on the plane?

Is anything in packages allowed, crisps, nuts etc.?

I saw that but I was looking for anyone's experience of which is better, i.e. the 2x2 or all four of us in 1 row.

Hi all,

Quick query, I often fly to the states with work but normally connect via Heathrow so arrive at my destination and never have had to connect in the US.

I am looking at booking flights to Cancun for some sun next year, the best value is with United -

Dublin - Newark - Cancun

Now my question is regarding the change of flight in EWR, do I have to clear US immigration of do I follow the connecting flight channel as the flight is with United and the way to CUN.

And if I have to clear immigration is 3hrs 15mins ample time to get connection?

Any advice is appreciated.

You were indeed mistaken - all flights to the US (except Ethiopian) clear US CBP in Dublin.

Sometime US pre-clearance is closed in T2 but it shouldn't be a bother. Newark is not a large airport so 3:15hr would be plenty even if you had to clear customs

Not any more - as per above, all flights except Ethiopian pre-clear in Dublin.

At present CBP is open 0700-1600. They were a handful of occasions last year were significant delays to EI 4pm departures meant that they did not use teh pre-clearance facility. (I think it was 3-4 times)
Apparently the daa/EI are hoping to extend the opening times to allow more flexibility in this (and allow greater spacing of departures throughtout the day)

I think there's some issue regarding the integration of the EI/BA booking sites. If you try to book any EI flight on the BA website they seem to have standardised the prices at a fixed price (rather high). Whereas if you go onto the EI website you get the actual EI prices. But the BA flights will be set at the 'correct' variable fare. Basically, you need to check both sites to find the best prices!

Even the BA operated flights are coming in at €303, per way!

It's your standard airline meal to be honest ! I think I had something like Chicken Madras the last time, which was fine, however I've also had the pre-order steak and highly recommend it! 3 of us had ordered it and we all really enjoyed it and were very glad we opted for it !

I assume you're flying economy, if so then just expect a basic economy long haul flight, food and drink provided, a seat back TV, nothing exceptional just an ordinary flight, their domestic flights are much the same as our European flights, you can expect to pay for drinks and have hand luggage gate checked etc. Little or nothing in the way of inflight entertainment

Depends where you're going, generally speaking most people tend to rate BA and Virgin above the American carriers for service on transatlantic flights, Air New Zealand I think still fly from Heathrow to LA or San Fran, and have an excellent reputation.
For me aircraft type, more specifically cabin layout is what I fell is important! But this depends on personal preference.
For example I am looking at going to California after the summer, I don't mind so much what airline I fly with however for an 11 hour flight i'd prefer to sit in a 2 seat row as opposed to 3 seat row! Some airline seat there economy cabin 3-3-3, some 3-4-3 and some 2-4-2.
As there are two of us travelling id prefer to have just the 2 seats to ourselves, and I tend to go with the option that will allow that! From heathrow that would be the upper deck of the BA A380(economy) or a Virgin A340/330(economy)

Yes there is for all flights except the Ethiopian flights to Los Angeles.

As an aside to this if I'm flying dub-Heathrow-USA I take it that clearance is done when I land in the states?

Not really to be honest, can be very slow in DUB compared to the US but can be very slow in the US compared to DUB, depends on where you are going and at what time

Saturday midday flight to Boston, will that time make it any quicker or not?will try get to airport for 8.30 to get queuing early
