Poor choice by Loftus. Had a few options on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 26,658 ✭✭✭✭OldMrBrennan83

That could easily have been a Galway penno.

Jaysus that was dramatic. Even when it’s a **** game of hurling it’s a great game!!!!

Is Lee Chin the most over rated player going ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,243 ✭✭✭C__MC

I might add the ref was dreadful. Wexford diving and he missed 3 clear frees late on galways behalf

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,265 ✭✭✭big_drive

    Wexford are seriously poor

Galway nearly as bad but at least they’ve potential with a full team back

A few years ago maybe. He star has fallen dramatically in the last 2. There's very little about him these days.

    Absolutely. Bang average.

Weird to say both teams threw that away. Galway should have taken a point with those goal chances before that save from Callanen

Lee Chin had 2 chances to go a point up near the end. Dropped one short and missed another. Then gave a bad hand pass for another chance.

Then that goal chance should have been taken! Very exciting end.

Poor stuff really. AI looks like it's in Munster this year.

TJ or Joe would have nailed that last chance

They were at home, and were outplayed. Very poor stuff from Galway, not a hope they are winning an all Ireland this year.

Think Wexford will feel more disappointed not to have won that. Lee Chins free taking was awful. Leinster looking very even so far this year.

It's looking more likely that it will be Kilkenny for Leinster atm.

Bar a massive shock than on the 8th June Waterford and Carlow will be finished for the year as its could be respectively there last group games

Looking like both Munster and Leinster will go down too the wire

Depressing stuff from a Waterford point of view too be done so early. Need a massive massive effort next Sunday.

Only because they have TJ Reid, the rest of their team is bang average. Same as what Galway look like when Joe isn’t playing.

I am not sure Galway are going to make it out of Leinster unless they get a fit Joe Canning back ASAP.

The last 15 was close and quite exciting.

The rest of the game was truly awful. Some of the wides were atrocious. Chin will never be as poor again surely. Galway were rudderless.

The quality of hurling was extremely poor. Yes, it was windy but at times it was junior B level. The decision making by both sides, the passing, the shooting, the atmosphere, all very poor.

Galway were not good but I never felt they were being outplayed because Wexford were just as bad. Ultimately it was two teams both playing poorly. Even allowing for the wind.

Munster champions have an awful record in All Ireland Semi Finals. Early days yet, no clear favourite has emerged.

You cant play hurling in Salthill. The place is for kites only. A swirling wind is incompatible with hurling..its about 1 out of 5 games that the conditions are conducive to hurling. Today's game was terrible

Agreed about salthill for hurling or football for that matter Tis easier get from east and south Galway to Tullamore than get in and out of salthill.
No leaders on that Galway team. A piss poor performance with or without the wind

Salthill has nothing to do with the good of football and hurling in the county and is only about vested interests and egos. Useless stadium for both players and spectators. Players can't perform as they should and spectators can't get in or out of it.

Was it specifically directed at Cody?

He's probably right though in fairness. I know he hasn't helped himself over the years but he gets away with nothing that other managers would.

You have to give the Wexford lads the credit for digging in and retrieving what looked like lost games this week and against Dublin.

Someone mentioned Chin missing a free or two, but he is invaluable to that team. Drags them out of holes.

Leaves Dublin needing big win over Carlow and to beat Galway to have any chance/

The chances he missed from open play were as bad if not worse.

We are missing alot of chances and we just haven't clicked yet. Not sure we will click. We over play the ball alot and make bad decisions.

If we do click we could be dangerous but that is a big "IF"

He had about 7 wides and one or 2 dropped short. Dragged them into a hole today.

He has more poor games than good to be honest, pure hype which I guess is understandable and not in anyway his fault. Every free he takes is not only a lottery its also illegal but he has yet to be pulled up for it.

The standard in Munster has been streets ahead of what was on show yesterday, could you imagine what Wexford or Galway would do for a Patrick Horgan or a Bubbles O'Dwyer. There is a clear difference in quality at the minute but of course that could change, Munster is such a battlefield that whoever emerges will have expanded a hell of a lot of energy and from a Leinster perspective Galway will improve with Joes return and Kilkenny will always be dangerous in Croke Park. There has pretty much been an even split between the two provinces in AI final appearances in the last number of years and U21/20 has been dominated by Munster but that connect between U21 and Senior has always been dodgy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,148 ✭✭✭mountgomery burns

It's not inconceivable that Galway be out of the championship before Canning returns. Two away games that they will be beaten in if they play like they did yesterday. All Wexford would have to do then is beat Carlow or Kilkenny to qualify.

There's a lot made of the difference in intensity and competitiveness between the two provincial championships which is understandable. Yet when it came down to it last year it was 3 munster teams contesting the All Ire sfs and Clare probably could and should have made it an all Munster final. They had enough chances both days against Galway anyway. Being in munster may be a disadvantage in terms of qualifying for knock-out stages, but i still think it comes down to quality as to who holds sway from there. Hard to be definitive after just one full year of the new system, but i dont buy the tiredness angle at all.

He actually hurled well from general play. Free taking is atrotious though. And that is Wexford's biggest issue. Frustrating certainly, and slightly overhyped but no more so than a few lads from over counties.

If Wexford had a free taker like Joe Canning they would win a lot more big matches.
    Their conversion rate is terrible.

Chin is good player and more importantly, rallies the team when they are losing. Having seen both the game against ourselves and Galway, he was one of main factors in turning things Wexford's way.

His freetaking is erratic to say the least! Teams like Wexford and Dublin are paying the price for not having a better freetaker, and indeed Galway yesterday clearly missed Canning.

Carlow are decent side, but one of main factors in their upward curve is Kavanagh from placed balls. not seen any stats but he must be well up there among leading ones/
