Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. It really is as simple as that. He knew he was good enough but has said plenty of times he just wasn’t getting the breaks. He was playing with an elbow that essentially had nerve damage as well which was affecting his grip and swing. He couldn’t take time off injured because he couldn’t afford to. He was fighting for every dollar and fedex point possible so couldn’t afford to take time away until he was left with no choice.

Great bogey free round, didn't see him on the TV but was only dipping in and out of it. A win obviously would be brilliant and with that start he has given himself every chance but even another top ten finish would solidify his world and fedex rankings. Such a treat to be able to think about watching him at the weekend with him being in the frame rather than where we were this time last year worrying whether he'd make the cut (when he was actually in the competition to start out with). Certainly makes Sunday nights much more interesting.

Didn't watch it all yesterday but didn't see any shots from spyglass. Should be featured over the weekend.

Its not simply a matter of signing up.

He needs to earn a card to play on the European Tour. He can currently play a number of ET events on invites, such as the Orish open.

However, if he maintains his status in the world's top 50 he should skate in as he would be playing in all the majors and wgc events. One big finish alone in any of those would do enough to get him a European Tour card. He then simply needs to commit to playing a few ET events outside of the majors & wgc events to satisfy tour requirements.

Lips out for a bird, 3 putts for a bogey followed up with 2 birds. Leading on his own now at -10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,966 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

He's top 50 in the world, he can play in any tournament in Europe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,443 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

Out to -12 now. He's playing absolutely superbly. Has the driver long and on a string and the putter is as hot as you could wish for.

  • Registered Users Posts: 713 ✭✭✭loadwire

    And another bird -13

He's on fire, he could be -16 by the end if the round the way he is going.

4 ahead, another chance for birdie on 13 to make it 5 in a row.

Edit: lip out, par it is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,493 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Birdie on the par 5 to get to -15

Unreal display... I normally like a competitive final round but for this week I hope Seamus romps it home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,966 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Yeah I love it being close but I'd enjoy Seamus running away with it more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,443 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

Regardless of whether he wins this or not, he'll have raised the roof on his profile over there. Featured group and puts on this display. Phenomenal stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,493 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

    Extends the lead to 6

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,951 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Sadly only got to put it on half an hour ago, at least I'm getting to enjoy it now!

Conditions not quite like the 2000 US Open but a double digit win would be pretty special all the same! 😄

Some performance so far. Love it. Hope he wins by 10

Did well to limit the damage there. Hope he finishes with a birdie.

    10 birdies, some round.

66-1 now for the Masters, got 100-1 last weekend. EW 6 places is better than throwing money away on the lotto

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭boardise

He's got an all round game but his short game in particular is sublime.

  • Registered Users Posts: 711 ✭✭✭Lad GAGA

Another brilliant round, at least we got to see this one. His overall game seems really strong but his short game in particular was absolutely brilliant tonight. Here's hoping he can keep it going over the weekend.

Simply stunning round by seamus. Great to see and if I was honest I would say I expected him to burn himself out. Still delighted he's proving me wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,720 ✭✭✭coillcam

When's he moving back to work in the pro shop in Waterford?

What performance. It'll be Lowry squeezing into top 50 for the Masters. Power is on a different trajectory.

  • Registered Users Posts: 238 ✭✭patob

Wow, fantastic stuff from Seamus, could see that Dermot Desmond was delighted for him too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,865 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Power is only going one way, his improvement in the last year has been astounding

Lowry will be grand for another while after Portrush

Lowry is already in, high finish in one of the majors, I think pga.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,720 ✭✭✭coillcam

Spot on, T4 with Harrington when Mickelson won. He's not under any pressure tbf. If the putter warms up a bit he'll getting some decent finishes.

    This is a joke ? Right ???

shane is a recent major winner !! That’s a 5 year exemption to The Masters, The US Open and The PGA.

He doesn’t need to worry about top 50’s for a while yet.

Just saw where Seamus' 128 is a new 36 hole record for the PGA -taking over from Phil Mickelson and Nick Taylor.

I think that's probably only for this tournament. Russell Henley shot 125 for his first two rounds in Hawaii a couple of weeks ago.

What a treat that was this evening. We saw more of Seamus Power this evening than we’ve seen of him in the last 6 months.

A phenomenal round of golf. When these players get in the zone and turn it on it’s something else to watch and tonight we saw exactly that with Seamus. His focus dropped once all day and that was on 17. What did he do? Regroup and hole the bogey putt and then had a few minutes to compose himself and have a chat with Simon on the 18th tee. Played the hole absolutely perfectly and that to me is a sure sign he’s all out going for the win.

Tomorrow i think we’ll see him be aggressive only where the opportunity presents itself. He doesn’t need to do anything silly and a -2 or -3 would give him a nice cushion going into Sunday. Absolutely convinced nobody will catch him at this stage, it’s just what he does himself is where it will come down to.

A super display for 18 holes and he just looked like he was going to hold everything. His iron play was as good as I’ve seen from any player in any tournament over the last couple of years and that wedge on 18 was magic. Just delighted for him.

As a Major winner Lowry is already qualified.

You get a 5 year exemption for all 4 majors when you win one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,951 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

To par possibly, par 70 in Hawaii, so 125 is 15 under.

17 under at the same tournament in Hawaii for Justin Thomas seems to be the record though.

Was great to see Seamus at his best on TV. He looked so focused and reminded me of Harrington in his prime. It’s only the 1/2 way stage, but he has become a serious player capable of winning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,304 ✭✭✭Widdensushi

I gave up watching the tournaments as he tends to get no coverage no matter how well he is doing, i will be watching today and tomorrow hopefully.

Have Rory or Padraig ever held such a strong lead this early in a tournament in a PGA tour event?

Looking forward to following him the next few evenings. Only caught a few holes on Friday but he was very impressive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,637 ✭✭✭joebloggs32

Sorry to dissapoint you but as Seamus is not on pebble beach today there wont be quite the same coverage on him. He is playing Monteray today. They will have some cameras there and as the leader we will see him, but not the same wall to wall coverage he got as yesterday I'd say. The event is spread over 3 courses so its alway like this for coverage.

No point in people blaming Sky for coverage tonight, its out of their hands really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,637 ✭✭✭joebloggs32

McIlroy led the US open by 6 shots in 2011 after 36 holes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,443 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

Probably be hard pressed to find many tournaments were Paddy shot -16 over 4 rounds let alone 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,304 ✭✭✭Widdensushi

That's disrespectful, you play the opposition as much as the course, he won plenty of competitions in his prime,it doesn't matter if it was 1 over or 50 under, we are lucky for a small country to have one or two -(boxing, rugby) where we are punching above our weight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,427 ✭✭✭dublin49

wasnt Paddy 5 ahead going into last day of European tournament, BMW maybe and was disqualified foe signing the card wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,443 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

If you're looking to be offended then maybe but I meant no disrespect. Harrington is a legend in my book but he was not known for shooting the lights out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,127 ✭✭✭finglashoop

harringtons grind and will to win was unbelievable

rory has had some big leads hasnt he?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,966 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

He shot ridic scores many times. I remember the Portugal event he won a few years ago with a ridiculously low score, Tigers event the Target World Challenge where he shot -20 and there were a few wins on the European tour besides Portugal where he won and shot high teens under par in them. He also shot high teens under par when finishing top three a few times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,443 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

Yeah, again I'm not looking to offend anyone. I'm a fan of Harringtons. But simply put he did not shoot the lights out often. Absolutely I'm sure there's a handful of tournaments where he had high teen finishes but against how many he played in he is more a grinder than a runaway winner.
