Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I so look forward to new episodes. I actually just listened to the same story as "Case 104 Mark and John" on another crime podcast. It wasn't nearly as good as Casefile as the perpetrator was revealed at the start of the episode.

Casefile is the best. Some of the more recent cases have been a bit mundane but you can't expect them all to be absolutely riveting. The writing and storytelling is always top drawer.

You funny you should say that about the recent ones.

I left Casefile for awhile at the start of the toy box series. I made the mistake of googling it and saw a picture that made me say fck that.

But iv started back with Belanglo and really enjoying it. Was going to ask what episodes since the toy box series would people recommend?!

    Casefile's Beaumont children is excellent

Gonzales family and Peter Nielsen were also good, I thought. Oh, and Britt Lapthorne.

Personally I’m finding these latest series rather dull

One good one I stumbled upon recently - 'You must Remember this' Podcast by Slate. Currently working through a 12 part-er about Charles Manson (Charles Mansons Hollywood) Really interesting so far. Goes through the origins of "the family" and the links to Hollywood famous faces etc. and how the interactions with them led to the murders.

    http://www.youmustrememberthispodcast.com/search?q=MAnson&f_collectionId=56815cdb39561466dbf8aa7c

This is a hidden gem. Probably my all time favourite podcast series.

I'm really enjoying this series, I didn't know much about it. Hadn't enjoyed the few episodes before it, but I am excited about tomorrow.

was the main inspiration. who knows what some of those victims went through before being killed....?

Mick Taylor was a vicious and unpredictable character. modern horror classic portrayal.

    the laugh was brilliantly unnerving.

First one is a must see imo.

    Go check it out!

    I'll just say one thing.....

"Head on a stick" (a quote you'll hear at some point).

No, never seen it and did know much about Milat case either

    Definitely worth a watch.

Could imagine it potentially happening so terrifying from that point of view.

The antagonist is smart and devious also which adds to the effect.

    Uncomfortable in parts.

    Might well rewatch it myself.

There is also a second movie and even s short TV series but they are not as good as the original movie imo.

Yeah, Wolf Creek was an amazing and equally disturbing watch. The idea that someone could switch so easily, and also how such non traditional cinema it was for a horror movie. Low budget movies can sometimes really knock it out of the park.

Ivan Milat series was fantastic. Really amazing job on it by the Casefile team!

Another fine one from Casefile but an absolutely horrific story. Those poor victims.

I never realised there was a Wolf Creek series. I watched the movie but had to turn it off halfway... horrific

Absolutely dreadful, sounds like their suffering was pretty extreme. I reckon Milat had an accomplice.

Think that's generally the consensus alright but he's hardly the most noble of folk. Wouldn't think its a problem for him to give someone up.

Paul Onions must be the luckiest man alive !!

I reckon it was one of the brothers, he wouldn’t give one of them up.

Paul was absolutely blessed, you’d never be right after that.

Great series, story was so well told.

interesting that he didn't take the $200,000 AUD

    2010 article
"At first they said, 'Do you want the money?' and I was like, 'No, no, no.' Then they wouldn't really let it go and gave me a cheque," the Briton told the Sunday Herald Sun.

Attempting to move on with this life, he walked into the Australian High Commission in London and handed over the cheque in an envelope.

"It was about 10 years ago. I said, 'Just give that back to the Government'."

Mr Onions is not wealthy, but believed that if he took the money, "Then everything you ever buy - it's like false money ain't it? Hollow money. Everything you buy, you don't have any joy in it".

I see where he was coming from with that argument. Hopefully the government put that money to good use. He should've given it to a charity or something.

I think it was very honourable of Paul onions not to take the money. He doesn't come across as a very materialistic guy.

Just finished Milat case last night. It sent chills through me especially when I think of all the people I knew who went backpacking in Oz over the years. He was some monster :( Casefile did it so well, I didnt want to miss a word all the way through.

    Thought Belanglo was brilliant

I love the long multi episode ones

I avoided it for the 5 weeks and listened to in all in the last few days.

Haha I loved the Belanglo one but yeah this was shocking alright. Can only imagine the uproar at the time. That kinda thing was very rare back in those days!

Would doubt it would have the level of detail and depravity that the Moors murders had.

all a bit drab recently imo - narrator not really giving it his all anymore imo.

    probably the writing also.

    and the sameness.

Did you like Bellangelo? I thought that was brilliantly done

yes that was ok but dragged a little. could have been a 4 parter easily.

in general I think that, to me anyway, notwithstanding his neutral tone, the narrator is not putting as much of himself into it.

the writing seems more variable and the cases not as good in general also imo.

I agree with you. I think it’s since he did the audience Q&A over Christmas I could just feel is apathy about true crime in general and tbh it just sounds like something that happened to fall into his lap rather than something he did out of genuine interest or love. I just haven’t been able to listen the same since.

Unrelated but I’ve been listening to The Killer Thorn of Gypsy Rose by Dr Phil and while I wouldn’t be a Phil fan in general, this story is just so bat shlt crazy it’s well worth a listen.
