Yeah I seen him recommend the wolf winders.. I don't mind him.. watched his first video with watch box.. looks like they have essentially a trading floor where they sell watches.. he took a selection from their vault and some impressive stuff there

New omega offerings including a 50 year anniversary model (one of many to come I suspect).

I am a big omega fan but all very “meh” and expensive IMHO.

AT worldtimer the only one that gives me a tingle.

Hah - I completely agree and I am/was such a big fan of Omega.

Where they also lost me was the inability to fit the 8500 movement - which I accept was a great step forward for them - in a 42mm case (the Planet Ocean) and 38.5mm case (in case of the Aquaterra) without the watches being just too thick.

The 42mm Planet Oceans with the 8500 are 15.7mm thick and the 38.5mm Aquaterras are 13 mm thick versus 14.25mm and 11.25mm respectively for the older 2500s.

I know it doesn't sound like much but there is a massive difference on the wrist especially when worn on the bracelet. The bigger versions are better proportioned and sit better but are really big watches, especially the XL Planet Ocean. I have a 2500 Aquaterra (38.5mm) and Planet Ocean (42mm) and love them both. I do prefer smaller watches but I don't have a small wrist.

And I'm also somebody who loves the Seiko MM300 SBDX001, which is 44mm diameter and 15mm thick, and gets knocked for being too thick all the time. It certainly is thick but I find the case design of the Seiko sits it down on your wrist a lot better. If you can imagine the 42mm 8500 Planet Ocean, it's a couple of mm smaller but almost 1 mm thicker.

I have 6 automatics mostly Seiko divers. The dressy ones are the Rolex explorer 214270 mkll and the Seiko SARB 35

So what I was thinking was. 3 swiss watches and 3 Japanese.

The 3 Japanese would be Seiko Sumo in black, Seiko Sarb 35 and Turtle Padi or Samurai Padi havent decided yet. So that is two divers and a sport/dressy casual piece.

The 3 swiss will be built around my Explorers. So I was thinking Rolex Explorer 214270 39mm , Omega seamaster 300m Professional (last model with out the waves on the dial in Blue and a Tudor Black Bay 36mm. (If a 36mm E2xplorer 114270 happens to appear in the mean time)

Having about 12 or 13 watches, so I have alot of them are going back into their original boxes and put away for a few years.

So I'll have my box of 3 Swiss 3 Japanesse.
As well as a few quartz maybe 3 or 4.

Question is where will I be able Tudor Black Bay 36mm for under 2k with Box and papers.

As well as a Omega seamaster 300m professional blue bezel for under 2k?

    Ideas anyone ?

Just to add on, rather then selling my watches to narrow down the cokkrvyuu;;9]0 I'm going to return then to their original boxes and store them away for the next 20 to 30 years and see will the be worth any thing. Now I know they are Seiko but it will be interesting to see what new old stock Japanese watches will fetch.

    Hi folks
I'm in the US this summer working around the new Hampshire area. Always looking at watches and I'm getting my skyfall aqua Terra next week. Had a look in a local jared today and they had a black role sub 38?mm I asked re price and they said 6500 dollars.. they also have a jewellers called barmarkian and I had a look around. High end place. Omega, tag, logines, breitling.. didn't see rolex.. tried on an aqua Terra and felt class.. roll on next week. 6k tried on a speed master special edition with moon phase and was 10k.. figured I'd leave it at that.. I'd love to come across something like a rolex explorer 1 at a good price but can't see it.. I'll have to make do with the omega for now..
    Cheers,
    Mick

I hadn’t realised many of the shops were doing interest free and low interest finance through flexifi.

Can get 4-5k over 3 years for a cost of 400 or so. Dangerous.

Friend of mine picked up an explorer about a year ago and it’s scratched to sh1t and not even paid for, he has no respect for it in my opinion and that’s purely because it’s on finance.

I am heavy enough on watches myself so don’t knock him!

Can you negotiate a discount on an omega i.e 20% then get finance or will they only allow it on full RRP? If it’s full RRP it’s a waste of time.

    Must resist!

There is a certain protectiveness that you apply to something you have saved for vs something that you can buy on the spot.

Available ability of finance is good but I wonder does it make retailers less likely to offer discounts.

A guy at work today announced he was on the lookout for a Rolex hulk. 13 k from a jeweller in the Midlands. We had a chat about rolex and a couple of non watch lads thought we were nuts. Watchs should cost 200 euro kind of thing.

yeah i think most lets say under 30s these days would figure a smart watch, or the time on your phone is more desirable than an expensive watch... tbh it kinda surprised me when i got into watches that even quartz watches are not 100% accurate... i figured they were digital so how could they lose time :)

If not look away now but if so, you may be interested.
The players got (what I think is) a Rolex a sea dweller for winning the 98 double.
Also the 04 “invincibles” got a limited edition modded Rolex Milgauss from Titan Black. Only 49 were made to represent the record setting 49 matches unbeaten. The design is based on the dial from the old clock at Highbury.
Mesut Ozil paid £30,000 for Thierry Henry’s at an auction.

Ditto. And Japanese culture has a big thing for authentic wear and tear of personal objects. They have made art forms around it. This seems aimed at westerners.

Anything with a fake distressed/used look is pretty crappy looking.

Just wear it yourself and enjoy putting a used look on it from normal daily wear.

Quoted for truth 2Shea. I'm one of the vintage weirdos and one reason is I like wear and tear. I bloody love it. I've had a few new old stock vintage watches in my time over the last 30 odd years *gulp* and have a couple still, but I find them hard to wear. One reason being I don't want to be the muppet who clatters them after so long being "mint" and second reason would be they feel a bit sterile to me, unloved, preserved by dumb fortune. I much prefer the ones already a bit clattered, affected by time and the owners in the interim between their birth and ending up with me. I hope to add to them in some way; clean up, add safe lume, service them, keep them safe, get them "living" again, while adding to their "DNA", so that I can hand them on after me. I like that I may be a part of a link in a chain of such things into the future and on other wrists for god knows how long. You can't buy that with fake lume and distressing. Each to their own I suppose.

For Kildare Village you can get 10% discount cards in most hotels, they’re usually in the lobby in a stand with other tourist attraction information. You can get a rebate back via handing in typist receipts at the welcome desk for air miles too. Anything you negotiate on top is a bonus

I'm on holiday in Bulgaria at the moment and taking a trip into the Breitling shop in Bourgas.
I want to get a look at an Avenger GMT on my wrist, and decide if I'm going to treat myself for my 40th.

I want a diver, happy to swap straps as needed for slightly dressier less bulky occasions.

I've decided that I want a GMT complication, however I have not decided what to buy.
Currently mulling it over and budget is playing a big part too so that's Rolex out of the picture.
    I'm mulling it over with
    Breitling Avenger 2 GMT
    Tudor GMT
    Omega Planet Ocean 600m GMT ( I like the orange 1 ;) )
The Rolex that does catch my eye in this category is the explorer 2 but it's double my max budget.

I do have the advantage of being able to buy in the EU and get my VAT back, but budget is tight.

My usual daily driver varies between a zetime and Titanium citizen pro-master.

So anyone got any other ideas on what I should consider?

    My 2c:
Breightling Avenger - Nice watch, but the bezel is very Aztec looking and with the silver wings on the dial somehow for me seems cheap (I think thats invictas fault). This watch is a depreciation bomb, Get at least 20% off if buying retail.

Tudor GMT - good choice, new inhouse is nice if your into that sort of thing. Some desirability, and good construction. I find it difficult to seperate Tudor from Rolex on quality, only issue is Tudor does not have the branding. There are two on adverts at the moment. Once chap in Cork has a 2018 Pepsi one on a bracelet for 3400 asking, looks in good condition. There is another on at 4 grand. For me at around 3200 thats a decent purchase but you will loose a little money on resale.

Omega Planet Ocean 600m GMT : Fine watch, interesting movement, nice display back. Problem I have is this is a VERY big watch. My business partner has one and I see it all the time. He is 6 foot and medium build and its ok on his write, I am 5'9'' and stocky, but I have a thick wrist at 18cm and it looks like a clown watch on me. Its the height of the thing. Another depreciation bomb so buy used. 3750 on adverts 2009 model (half price).

Explorer 2 - only value in Rolex sports at the moment. I know a good 40mm for sale white dial (4400 euro) , and there is a 42 on adverts too (6000 euro). Both fomr reliable sellers, PM me for info. Nice watch, however these are the "dogs" of the rolex range if such a beautiful thing can be a dog. I prefer the black dial version.

If I was in your position I think I would go for the tudor with my heart, but the Rolex with my head. I made an offer on the tudor oin adverts but the chap was not willing to budge even an inch. Doesnt matter about VAT if you buy new you will loose money, if you budget is not endless use the used market to get the most you can for your euros.

Your thinking on Rolex v Tudor is pretty much the same as mine.
I do think their Pepsi GMT is stunning tho.

I'd had closer to 10k in mind for an explorer.
I'm leaning towards a black 42mm if and when I can afford one and you've just made it sound a lot more affordable ;)
Must let my wife come across those prices ;)

If you can push to 10k the world is your Oyster. GMT Master 2 ceramic, submariner ceramic...or how about this.

Tudor GMT Pepsi + Omega Speedmaster + Explorer II Polar 40mm
: that would be under 10k and would be a savage collection.

That's awful but not surprising. It's definitely something that's come to mind over the years on Adverts.

I don't trust the feedback system on Adverts one bit either - you can see how A previous 'contributer' here (among others) generate feedback with fast sales of a few quid before deleting the ad.

No joy seeing the Avenger as they had none in stock.
Couple of Navitimers but not really catching me.

I'm trying hard to see past Fitzgeme's suggestion on what I could buy if I double my budget now tbh ;)

Migh swing for the Tudor GMT as the start of that collection, or hold off until I have enough cash to drop on a black faced explorer 2 and build from there.

Tis a good thing the mortgage is paid off I suppose :P

The Tudor is a savage watch...but a word of warning if its the explorer you want dont wast time and money on anything else. Sometimes people want the Rolex because it is a Rolex. I know its a bit off to be so brand focused, but there is something about it we have all been brainwashed into.

I know of a very tasty Oyster perpetual, grey sunburst dial 39mm blue markers for sale in great condition less than 4k.

When I took the notion that I wanted a GMT and started looking it was the Tudor that originally caught my eye.
After a little more research, the Explorer 2 42mm stood out more for me especially in black.

I think it may be a case of leave the cash build up a little and go all in on that 1st.

So that's me signed up to Chrono24 and TZ-UK now...
Now I'm hoping this works kinda like the Simpsons!
    Insofar as...

    1st I get Deeee money!
    Den I get Deeee watches!

Of course if my wife finds out, she may well kill me!
But sure then, there'll be a watch or 2 to pay for the funeral at least :pac:
