Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Gurren Lagann has none of the "wierd" depression/human condition that Evangelion would be considered of (not really anyway). It's generally more of an action comedy.
    I'd second his recommendation whole-heartidly.

^What he said. Possibly the greatest anime of all time, right from the get-go its flat out insanity. Dips in the middle (most shows do) but picks up again. If you watch nothing else watch this.
Spoiler: To be fair, he had more screentime there than he had in the manga. And thats including his other appearance which they haven't gotten to yet.

    Thats true,
but I liked how in the first series we had time to get attached to him, made his death a lot more meaningful.
Hopefully when the series reaches the point where the original series broke away it will slow down and pace itself better.

Been working my way through Eureka 7. It's well brilliant. Loving every second of it.

Just saw the first two episodes of Giant Robo. Was expecting to be bored to tears by some silly old super robot show.

I was wrong, it's bloody amazing. Great animation, good music, fantastic storylines, great shounen battle-manga styled fight scenes. And then the robot shows up, and it gets better.

Heres a tip. Don't think of them as mecha. Just think of them as anime.

Question: What do Gundam 00, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Macross Frontier have in common?

    Answer: Absolutely nothing.

Eureka 7 - Surfind robots, is there anything better?
Gurren Lagann - If you haven't seen it, you really should
Macross Zero - Only 5 eps but quite good.

Thats all the mecha I know others can help more.

Eureka 7 is fantastic. Gurren Lagann is amazing.

    Also see;

Macross Frontier - Fantastic story, great action, brilliant music.
Gundam 00 - Best Gundam I've seen. Compulsive watching.
Giant Robo - Old, but action packed and extremely watchable.

dont forget the like of neon genesis evangelion if you like being mind raped. And code geass is a kick ass anime which is not 100% mecha all the time but its pretty amazing

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya did it again...

Its f*cking killing me now how many times they have done this.

twice full episodes and one to show it repeating millions of times then a fourth to show the conclusion.

BUT FIVE FULL EPISODES OF THIS SH*T IS TOO MUCH EVEN FOR ME!

I swear the dvd pack of this season will be the biggest rip off produced.

    Currently watching

Asura Cryin' - magic and giant robots...
Eve no Jikan - exploring a world with robots and humans.. kind of Asimov like
Kemono no Souja Erin - little girl who connect with animals used to fight wars
    Needless - trashy action
Phantom Requiem for the Phantom - following an assasian in his quest for meaning to his life
Shangri-La - eco themed dysotopian freedom fighting story
Spice and Wolf II - mechant and a wolf spirit travelling around
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - very promising so far, a girl and her brother caught in a huge earthquake, no idea where its going though
Valkyria Chronicles - like the game

I'm only beginning to get into anime at the moment and a friend recommended Death Note to me.

I'm just about to start the fourth episode. It's very exciting so far. Really enjoying it.

Even the cave men enjoyed the fire when it was first introduced to them.

I think most of humanity still enjoys fire.

Watching Outlaw Star, it's quite dull, Bebop or Trigun it isn't. I've been "watching" it for months though, have been reading manga more lately.

Reading Akira, along with a dozen others. Latest Gantz was great :)

Watching Pani Poni Dash, crazy crazy show but pretty funny and a real test of your "Spot the reference" skills.
Watched Mind Game a few days ago, still not sure if I liked it or not, some bits were great, some bits were craaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy!
What's better, Gundam manga or show.

Pain Poni Dash, by the same studio as Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. :D

    Gundam anime.

The anime is the original and definitive work in the case of every incarnation of Gundam. The mangas are just adaptions and fairly rubbish by and large.

That said, some Gundam shows are far better than others.

Some of the shows were very badly rated on Anime sites so I wasn't sure about it, as a lot of people sing it's praises (but it's the same with dragonball). I've heard 00 and seed are the best, what's for watching and what should be avoided?

started watching Sora no Manimani there the other week and have been liking it, it's an ongoing series about halfway through the season so far. I'd recommend it to those who like 'slice of life' anime

Reading Trigun Maximum. Trigun is one of my favourite anime of all time so it's going down nicely :)

    Trigun manga > Trigun anime

    Trigun manga > Trigun anime
Most manga are better than the manga they're based on, although manga cannot capture the same tense atmosphere of a good anime fight (Claymore is a biggun)
