Anyone got any bets for today or tomorrow?

  • Registered Users Posts: 132 ✭✭kilkenny34

What about the punters that back either team to win that dont know about any skulduggery? Anyway how hard would it be for both teams to ensure a draw is played out? No way all or even most players would be in on it.

Would be easier to manipulate the other markets like handicap spreads, goals, red cards etc. But doubt a match like that would have many markets.

Well generally a draw would be the longest odds you could get available. Intermediate nearly always just match betting bar county finals. Usually minimum of 7/1 in football for a draw so def would be the bookies biggest liability in this game, you would imagine most bets on intermediate games are from that county whereas senior bets made from all over the country as people have more knowledge of the teams.

Have never heard of betting being suspended due to betting on a draw, wouldnt be easy alrite. But its happened in World Cups,I know soccer be a lot easier but there wont be any great investigation into a local club game I doubt.

Didn't know bookies were doing intermediate games this year, asked for odds for Ros club games and was told they weren't doing them by PP/Betfair

Nothing really but reckon the overs in points totals will have good chance with the weather so good.

Local bookies maybe. In Kilkenny they have matches priced for knockout championship.

Sometimes the bookies make mistakes. I remember about 10 years ago Ladbrokes did a GAA special of 4/5 for two out of that weekends four live GAA intercounty football matches to have a goal in the game. A friend of mine rang me up that Sat morning. I remember it because i put 500e on it and the first two games that Sat evening both had a goal scored. Armagh were one team not sure the other. It was one of the most stress free bets i've ever done.

Surprised they didn't go down the palpable error route here as a cop out...

The offer was on the racing post thing that is in the bookies. It was a full page with all the odds and details.

Maybe a mistake is not the appropriate word for it but i felt it was an offer i couldn't refuse. I only wished i had put more on it.

I think the odds for most intercounty football games to have a goal these days is 1/8 or 1/10 or something very skinny like that.

Betting suspended on Castleisland v Laune Rangers (Killorglin) Intermediate championship match after "irregular betting patterns".

A draw will do both teams to go through so maybe some skullduggery is at play.

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid-40028999.html?type=amp

The thing is that given a draw will suit both teams, it's very easy to see a situation where if the scores are level with 5/10 minutes to go both sides just go ultra-defensive and sit 13 players back and ease the foot off the accelerator.

There's also the fact that coming first or second makes no difference whatsoever as the draw for the next round is unseeded - the only restriction is that teams can't meet teams they have played already. So this means there is no incentive to topping the group or no disadvantage to coming 2nd as opposed to 1st.

This is the final game in a 4 team group and in the previous 4 games, there has been 1 draw, a 1 point victory, a 4 point victory and a 6 point victory.

Before the competition started most people would have said these two teams would have been battling for the 2nd spot - with Rathmore strong favourites to go through [Rathmore were relegated from Senior last year and would have been among the favourites to win the Intermediate this year but they had 2 woeful 2nd half collapses in both their games ]

My main point is that this game was probably good odds of being a tight affair even before the results from the previous games so I really wouldn't be surprised if this does end up a draw.

All this is before the betting side of things comes into play at all. Chances are this is a small enough market so you could understand a bookie closing the market even if only a small enough amount of money went on the draw.I could easily see a bookie getting spooked when they realised that a draw would mean both teams going through and the team finishing 2nd in the group being in the exact same situation as the team who finished 1st.

Situations like this are win win for the bookies tbh.

If for example, in this instance, the outcome of the game was a draw, they would no doubt have voided all bets regarding the game and point to the t's and c's saying they don't have to pay out due to the irregular activity. Or, as has transpired, the punted outcome does not occur, and they settle all irregular activity bets as losers and move on as nothing has happened.

By right, if irregular patterns are identified pre event, then all bets on the match should be declared void in advance, rather than the bookies being able to have their bread buttered on both sides.

Impossible to play for a draw in Gaelic football or hurling. I didn't believe that story for a minute. There may have been betting irregularities but to think it was because the game was going to be somehow compromised to end in a draw never stood up with me anyway. More than likely some lad knew a draw would suit both teams and thought it might be worth a punt and he told a few pals and the bookie got spooked.

Or on the hand hand, it was planned for, few lads throw money on it, bookies pull it, national newspaper publishes article on it, the eyes of the GAA are now on that game, it's stopped.

    It happens, believe me.

Should all bets on the game be made void prior to the match once the "pattern" was noticed and made national headlines? Particularly when they accepted bets for a period and then suspended all betting on the match.

How many players would have to be compromised to ensure a game ends in a draw? No way one corrupt player could manage it alone. You'd need quite a few. And possibly both sides. I just don't see it.

Some other individual markets like scoring over/under, handicap spreads, red cards etc can be done by a corrupt player but i dont think you can fix a match to end in a draw with any degree of certainty.

Just my opinion but to get the draw if it was anyways close with say 15mins to go both teams could just sense it and run down to 2nd gear spontaneously and play it out, but then it just takes 1 lad to go on a soo run and it wont work. To be honest theres any amount of scenarios here. I'll keep an eye on the tables and results in my area today and see if any similar situation emerges.

I don't bet very often and just happened to wander into this forum tonight, but I'm involved in Wexford hurling (with one of the clubs that was beaten in the quarter-finals), so it's coincidence that this was the last post here.

There's very very little between the four teams left in the championship, and I'd agree that Naomh Eanna are too short at 11/8.

For me, Glynn/Barntown are the best value, at 10/3 (PP price - don't know what anybody else might be offering).

Both of Gorey's main men (Conor MacDonald, and Cathal Dunbar) have been struggling for form, and overall, they haven't been hugely convincing in any of their three games so far. Lucky to beat Rapparees in their first game with a controversial last minute penalty, and stumbled through large parts of their quarter-final with Ferns too, before again nabbing a goal near the end.

On the other hand, Glynn/Barntown showed with their relatively comfortable win over St. Martin's that they can beat what's still the best team in the county on paper, and are therefore capable of beating the others too.

I'm genuinely surprised they're as big as 10/3 for the title, and I'm probably even more surprised that they're outsiders for their semi-final with Shelmaliers on Sunday (PP have Shels at 4/5, and G/B at 5/4). Maybe have a nibble at that one anyway, if you don't fancy backing them outright?

Strange to see Thomas Davis 11/2 to beat Ballymun 1/10 today. Thomas Davis reached the county final last yeaf and Ballymun always are favourites every year but seem to underachieve. Think I saw one of the Thomas Davis players has moved back north but I will have a small stake on them, just seems far too big a price.

Was thinking along your lines but might go with Shels outright. Glynn have done the hard work for other teams before, like a few yrs ago when they bet a completely dominant Oulart team but didnt go on and win it.Might be hard for them to reach last weeks level. Wasnt overly impressed with Shels as I thought Harriers short game was poor last week but they were always in control.I agree with you in that the winner will win the county final, although the standard is poor compared to KK if there was a Leinster championship I would not be punting on the Wexford champs.

In Kilkenny today a short price double of Mullinavat 1/3 and Clara 8/15 is my bet. Mullinavat are a good solid team who are too good for Ballycallan who cant score enough.Billy Ryan still injured.Clara were poor last week but with a bit of improvement should take care of The Rower, Richie Leahy is a big loss.

Mount Sion are 21/4 to beat De La Salle with Bet 365. I would make it about 2/1 personally, Austin Gleesons suspension has been overturned.

Not much between em in County semi last year, bare results in the last game misleading as Mt Sion were minus Gleeson from the start almost and equally DLS were up a man on Abbeyside just after throw in. Definitely value in Mt Sion.

Shels are as good a pick as any, and you're right that Glynn/Barntown have had a bit of a habit in recent years of falling before the final hurdle. By the way, it was back in 2014 that they shocked Oulart in a quarter-final, before losing the semi (to St. Anne's). They'd also lost a semi-final in 2013, and think they've lost two since then as well. They definitely haven't made a final anyway.

I'm possibly a bit heart over head in tipping them, in that an old buddy of mine, Larry Murphy, is with the management there this year and I'd like to see them win it now that my own club is out. By the way, that's Larry Murphy originally from Cloughbawn and of the Wexford '96 team. Not the "other" Larry Murphy, from Baltinglass!

On another note - unfortunately have to agree with your last line. Haven't been impressed overall with the standard of senior hurling in Wexford myself this year. I wouldn't have been tipping any of the four left here to go far in Leinster, on form to date anyway.

    Including Shels in Wexford.

A result which blew the water out of me plumping for Glynn/Barntown.

And therein lies the reason why I don't actually bet very often. Might be a while before I'm back to this thread!

Good luck to everybody else though.

Have an odd bet on Intercounty myself (League & All Ireland), and maybe the All Ireland Club C'ship.
Don't bet on County Championship or league games, as I know nothing of them.

Just really like to follow the progress on all the Betting threads.

Austin Stacks are probably worth a few quid this weekend vs Dr Crokes, 13/8 albeit I was hoping for a bit longer than that.

Crokes will be missing a few key players and haven't been firing on all cylinders in their last number of games, whereas Stacks are on a decent run of form having reached the senior Club Championship final. Match is in Tralee on Friday night.

Legion are also probably a bit overpriced at 15/8 vs Rahillys in Killarney on Sunday (Live on RTE) in what really is a 50/50 game, only a bounce of a ball between the teams over the last 3 years. Their last match was a forgettable mauling at the hands of Stacks, but 15/8 is far too big an adjustment in my opinion.

League finals in KK this weekend. Hard games to predict as the league is basically meaningless in KK.After 3 weeks in a row teams might field weaker teams in the final so no bet.

I think James O'Donoghue is suspended for Legion which is probably a big part of why they are at 15/8. Even if his red card from the last game is over-turned before the weekend, I think he isn't fully fit [only came on at HT] in the game he got sent off in. Without James O, Legion are a far lesser team.

I think of the two bets Stacks represent a much better option - I could see Crokes in a bit of bother around the middle 8 - they'll be relying on Johnny Buckley to have a big game here with White out. A lot of their older players have a lot of mileage on the tires and their younger guys need to step up and have more of an influence on games as opposed to flashes or moments.

Sent off in Club Championship game would mean he's suspended for 1st game of next years Club Championship, but not County Championship so he's eligible to play if fit. Couldn't agree more they are inferior without him. If he plays, 15/8 is a wrong price.

Are you sure about this? I'm nearly sure I read in one of the papers he would be out barring a successful appeal.

Funny thing is I actually passed his dad at the weekend.
Could have asked him if James was available to play.

Yeah I'm certain, 1 match suspensions are applicable to the next match at the same level in the same competition. So he's eligible to play provided he's fit

Few differences of opinion in the wicklow championship this weekend

Arklow priced up @4/6 with boyles and 8/13 pp local bookies have them at 2/5 up against rathnew. Definitely see the 4/6 as some value arklow got to the county final last year quite a young hungry side look to be the second best side in the county again. Rathnew are now a shell of the side that would have been known in recent years 2 goals in injury time scraped them through the last round they also lost their first game out in the championship have the look of a team that are hanging on by a thread nothing for arklow to fear.

St Pat's should be too strong for tinhealy but that's reflected in the prices @1/5

Baltinglass are 8/15 against kilteagan with boyles while they are 1/4 locally. They have won both games they have played so far kilteagan are dogged and it will be a decent battle balto have a bit more about them in the forwards and would expect them to come out on top.

Avondale 1/3 with pp and 1/4 with boyles 1/5 locally dunlavin arent up to the standard at this stage of the championship

Think they follow PP odds alot of the time, usually you will see a much bigger difference between PP and Bet365 odds.2 weeks ago for Shels and Harriers the total points was 36.5 with PP and 43.5 with Bet365,a massive difference.Finished 38.

Never mind, bar one have loads of games up now for this weekend!

On a side note: how do you all top up your account without it showing on bank statement? I was using revolut lately, topping up revolut with my AIB Card, then using it to take the money out,

mortgage down the line in a year or two.

Don't know about any other counties.

Structure was 4 groups of 4 with 8 to go through.

Never mind, bar one have loads of games up now for this weekend!

On a side note: how do you all top up your account without it showing on bank statement? I was using revolut lately, topping up revolut with my AIB Card, then using it to take the money out,

mortgage down the line in a year or two.

They'll ask to see your Revolut account. This is how I get around it. Open up a paddy power master card. You can load up your paddy power cash card in a shop which links to the master card. You can link the paddy power MasterCard to any betting account. If you're using the PP MasterCard for other bookie accounts make sure to use the PP. account too. For example, put €100 on the card. Use at least €20 on PP account and the rest wherever. If you use it just on Ladbrokes fir example, PP will suspend the card
