Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Ah lovely, rush hour.

Might avoid the M50 for the usual scatter of high sided vehicles and tools who get spooked having to drive in any sort of weather. Hopefully the hills might offer some shelter from the WSW aspect.

At least most of the leaf fall is over, might avoid too many trees being felled. Probably not a good night to be a panel fence or a barna shed however!

And yes, Dublin is the only newsworthy area for weather events ;)

Met Éireann's Orange Warning has been updated and consolidated
    National Weather Warnings

    STATUS ORANGE

Wind Warning for Munster, Leinster, Galway and Roscommon
UPDATE of Warning: West to southwest mean winds will reach speeds of 65 to 80 km/h with gusts of up to 110 to 130 km/h this afternoon, and in the east this evening. There is the risk that those limits could be exceeded for a short period this afternoon, especially in exposed western coastal areas.

    Issued:Tuesday 17 November 2015 13:00
    Valid:Tuesday 17 November 2015 13:00 to Tuesday 17 November 2015 21:00

They are hinting at localised Red Warning parameters, we might see flash warnings later on for the mid-west.

Big gusts now in Galway have feeling this could be bad one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,951 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Yep as Oscar Bravo posted Met Eireann Just updated warnings to include all of Leinster and Munster in Orange now and increased speed max to 130kmh.

There is an argument for Red now, they really do leave these calls late!

74km/hr at 1.34pm top gust so far, but it is picking up fast

Yes, like the last time when mostly women were out picking up their children and trying to avoid falling trees.

The schools should be letting the children home early today.

Dublin Bay has gone from Force 2 an hour ago to Force 5 gusting Force 8 WSW. Only the fast ferries have been cancelled but I wouldn't like to be on a conventional ferry at any stage of tonight.

Very tight pressure gradient at the back of that low. Looks like we're going to get a good smack from it here in Galway.

    Just be situationally aware.

Keep an eye out for flying objects such as wheelie bins, fence parts, even trampolines! Look up as well as around, especially if in an area where buildings directly adjoin the street. Slates / tiles falling can give one a nasty bump.

Try not to walk with your head down looking at your feet. Be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine.

I just discovered that when you click into it a lot of them are green icons which are shown as "planned"

So its just the blue icons that are actual faults, which may be related to the storm.

Yes and it doesn't show individual faults on the low voltage network. Only gives high tension faults so when the high tension is out they know how many transformers on that line and how many costumers been supplied by that transformer.

Also be aware tha ESB Networks only post a fault when it affects 10 or more customers. They used to post a fault when 2 or more customers were affected but this changed a while ago.

There is an update site from ESB Networks which is used in adverse weather conditions http://updatesfromesb.com/

    They also use Twitter https://mobile.twitter.com/ESBNetworks?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Currently quite hairy here in Limerick City - and symptomatic of this winter - I had to move the still flowering sweet pea from across the coal bunker to get some coal!!

My son's school have cancelled after school activities but told parents to collect their sons as normal during the high point of the storm....
