thanks - which email do you mean ? I read the email i got with my tickets and it says nothing about parking.

Edit - just checked.. I'm going into grandstand - so parking at the front might leave me future away .. so might pack in Simmons Court - thanks.

I got an email from Ticketmaster yesterday. Seems they are belatedly being helpful to their customers and trying to justify their massive service charges. I've attached a screenshot of the parking/entrance information (you can ignore the colouring mistake, file that under "you had one job" :D)

    Enjoy tonight guys
no Lindsey is no Fleetwood for me but I am sure it will still be a great show and the pretenders are a really super support act.

I'm with you on that but I got a free ticket and it might be the last time we get to see them. I got to see the full band last time in the Point so I'm happy enough with that.

It was a real pleasure to see Neil Finn sing Don't Dream It's Over. Free Fallin' cover was great as well! Really enjoyed The Chain, have always wanted to see them do it live.

Music sounds was grand. Speech sound not so much. At least up in Anglesea.

I was disappointed not to hear crystal or 7 wonders but not surprised. But I'm super depressed not to have heard tusk.

Enjoyed it though, very much. First and only time I'll see them I guess. Mick is a legend. Stevie is just mind blowing. She looks great and still sounds well, especially considering her age.

Fantastic. Of course Buckingham wasn't there so the purists are up in arms all over Twitter but it was a great show. Loads of young folk there surprisingly. You can take Tom Petty out of the Heartbreakers but Mike Campbell won't let you forget.

Shouldn't be posting as didn't pay in but stood on path outside right at the stage. Perfect view of screens (better than standing down the back inside).

They sounded incredible from where I was anyway. Particularly Stevie and Christine hard to believe Christine is 76 this year.

I shouldn't be commenting so apols.

They wheeled him out to do a duet with Chrissie Hynd, Jesus it was woeful, he looked like he didn't know what was going on, obviously couldn't sing & couldn't remember the words. Chrissie hynd actually seemed to rub his head at one stage.
I don't know, maybe it was just me, thought it was awful.

Gold circle was great and worth the premium (although, wasn't really a choice as the back standing ones had sold out first when trying to buy them on release day!

Tons of space in the area except for the shambles of the whole one way system for going out to the bar/jacks. It was madness.

Enjoyed the gig otherwise, weirdly mixed crowd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,137 ✭✭✭endainoz

It was a great gig, Neil Finn was amazing with them as was Mike Campbell, the main issue I had was that the entrance to the pitch was way too congested and nearly dangerous at times. I suppose some people were not aware that they were on a half an hour earlier but yeah was way too congested. Could have done with more entrances to the pitch.

Sound from the pitch was great, Landslide was definitely a highlight as was free fallin, but I'm a big Tom Petty fan and found it quite emotional.

The McGowan song with Chrissy Hynde was certainly unique, I'm not sure how I felt about it, he was literally wheeled out like. Was my first gig in RDS since Metallica in 04 but it was great to see these legends together. Mick Fleetwood was in his element. I had heard people having concerns about Stevie Nicks' voice before but no complaints from me. Fantastic show, on the long road back to the M7 back to Clare now. Will be back around 2am!

Yes I had helicopter view of the pitch entrance and you are dead right, there was a huge crowd came streaming in for about 7 to 10 minutes, many rushing to get in as the gig was well on at that stage. It was an accident waiting to happen. Thankfully I didn't notice anything actually happen.

Parked at a church, think it was called St Mary's? Was very lucky just came upon it, closed just after we got it. Happy to pay the 10 euro for entry. It was at the back of the stage so we had a bit of a walk to get to the yellow entrance.

A delay of about 20 mins to get out, had to led the crowd off first but was back on the road shortly after. It's started pouring rain then too so we were very lucky if held off for the duration of the gig.

They open the church car park for parking for concerts, events in RDS, sporting events etc.
    Must make a fortune.
A lot of spaces in that area are pay and display until 12am so not a massive choice around.

We parked on ailesbury road, loads of parking there and only needed a ticket for an hour to cover past 7pm. 10min walk from there so was really handy.

Gig was unreal, no buckingham was a bit of a bummer but the 2 lads done him justice. The rest of the band were fantastic and Fleetwoods 10 min drum solo was great, man looked like he was off his face :) Nice to see Neil Finn song his own song, went down really well complimented by Nicks joining in and the Petty tribute another fantastic song. The rest of the Mac stuff was unreal, was hoping for a few more but with such a back catalogue it’s hard to fit it all in.

Hopefully it’s not the last we see of Fleetwood Mac in Ireland but I’d say their touring days are coming to an end with this one sadly..

We parked on Lansdowne Road, Pay & Display until 18:30, didn't take long to get out onto the canal at the end.

I loved the gig, but thought Stevie Nicks looked very tired coming out at the end for Free Falling. She is still amazing though. 2 women next to me were Neil Finn superfans and left really happy.
The Pretenders were really good too, but Shane McGowan was a but random and woeful.

The ticket price was worth it alone for those few minutes of landslide. That was just pure joy.

I thought it was a fantastic concert from start to finish, absolutely excellent, parking was fine, we paid and displayed and had a 10 min walk at most, got back to Cork around 2am and I'd go again in a heartbeat, I shed a few tears there tbh, loved every song they sang, still can't believe I got to see them live, loved it.

Saw a video a friend posted of Shane McGowan...

Christ it's actually difficult to watch.

Sounds like the Mac were awesome though which is great to hear. Hopefully they'll be back again with Lindsey Buckingham although have a a feeling with their age profile that they may not patch things up and/or tour again.

My head hit the pillow in Co. Clare at 2.02AM precisely!
    Worth the effort. Brilliant show!
Chrissy and Pretenders were superb. Look, Shane has been struggling for many years but he seemed to get a huge kick from the audience response to him as he was wheeled away!
The Mac were massive! Great start to the Show with The Chain........
Made reference to, and played a couple of Peter Green songs, but, l was surprised they didn't mention Lindsey at all??
The section with Mick F on solo drums was outrageous. What energy. Of course, he was in his element. What a Showman!!!!!
Christine was also terrific. BUT, Stevie. What a Legend. Voice on point. 17 years of age.
She did struggle with the Irish climate, though. She was hardly able to carry all the extra clothing she was adding as the evening went on.....
She knows how to woo a crowd.
    Loved every second of it.
Sound was perfect where we were(Gold circle.... Only ticket option as well.)
Was at Gig in Aviva a few years ago. The echo/reverb was horrendous. Couldn't even understand what artists were saying between songs!
    Nothing like that last night.
    Brilliant show last night................. :)

Had no idea about the time change so was stood at the bar when they came on, Mick was a legend.

First time seeing Fleetwood Mac and loved them. Was a surprising younger than I thought crowd. I was standing and about 2/3rds of the way back and thought the sound was very good to be honest. Maybe the vocals a bit low but could hear everything ok and no problems from me. Really glad I got to see them as I think they are one of 'those' acts you just have to see live.

The section of Mick on the drums - amazing. Clearly designed to give the girls a break but we'll worth it. And he loved it too!

As for the venue - very bad planning of bars and queues and entrances to the pitch. The whole having to show your ticket again going into the pitch, after already showing it at the entrance only caused more trouble. The beer hawkers on the pitch has no idea of what was going on. At one stage I placed an order and started to open my own bottles, and others that had paid cos she was so overwhelmed with any order that was larger than one bottle of rockshore! Don't get me started on the groups of 3 people ordering one drink each and paying for one drink each with card each time. Just creates longer queues and hassle!

Ireland needs a cashless/cardless system for food & drink like the continent do for gigs/festivals.

Malahide had contactless at all the bars/food trucks this year, slowly catching up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,596 ✭✭✭Ferris_Bueller

Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the gig that much, it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be but as I said last night it was mainly due to the venue more than anything else. It was my first time at a gig in a stadium so maybe I just wasn't expecting it, but I felt the organisation was terrible. Going to the toilet initially was where the night began to unravel for me, trecked through the crowd over to the entrance I came in and was about to go out to the toilets and the steward says to me "if you go out here you won't be allowed come back in, you will have to use the toilets on the far side", then I walked around to the far back corner and the queues were pandemonium. Mens moved quickly enough but my girlfriend was probably queuing for 25 mins, missed a good few songs during this time and I was pretty raging.

Then going back in to try and find our friends just wasn't happening, crowd too congested and didn't fancy squeezing through thousands of people, we decided to take up a space closer to the back then and I started to enjoy the gig a bit more. About 9.20 we decided to go and get a drink, again queuing for 20+ mins, overall missed probably 45 mins of the gig because of queuing. I get that it happens with large crowds but compared to The Cure on Saturday it was chalk and cheese, never took more than 5 minutes to go to the toilet or get a drink. Anyone know the capacity of the RDS compared to Malahide?

Fleetwood Mac themselves were good, strong setlist, energetic and the sound was good enough. Wasn't particularly mad on Free Falling or Don't Dream It's Over and probably would have preferred them playing two more of their own songs. They finished so early as well, 10.10 when they finished up? I was fully sure they were going to play another couple of songs afterwards.

Disappointing personally but ah well, these things happen I guess , I'm still glad I went. I definitely won't be rushing back to any other concerts in the RDS however.

While contactless is defo handier, I mean like a system where you can prepurchase tickets and then use the tickets in the venue and there is no change needed, the time between getting the card machine etc. Reduces queue time massively. 1 ticket = beer, 2 tickets = spirits or a burger etc.

The RDS is 35,000 and Malahide is 21,000. In my opinion, Malahide works really well because it's an open space and all the facilities are located on the sides and to the rear, so there are never any major bottlenecks created, as often happens in the RDS.

Due to the layout of the venue, there are a few pinch points in the RDS that lead to delays. They try to combat this by having one way systems, but when you've so many people, congestion is inevitable.

    i hate those token systems

the likes of the big grill festival use them and you end up with loads left over and cannot get your money back

its basically a way for the event organisers to milk more cash out of people

contactless payments only is the way forward

In fairness to Ferris, the RDS is a b*tch of a venue unless you're seated or in Gold Circle.

The longstanding sound issues in there seem to have been addressed though.

Yeah I don't remember it being that bad for Metallica way back but as stadiums go, RDS is obviously quite old and not really fit for purpose, gigs in the Aviva or Croke park are much easier to navigate and to empty/fill due to multiple exits/entrances. I found it very congested as said before, wonder is it even possible that the standing tickets were oversold?

As another poster said the que at 8pm to get on the pitch was shocking. Shame I missed the chain cos of it as we went out for a bathroom break at 7.45 thinking we'd have plenty of time to get back, needless to say we didn't and got back in right at the end of it. They had been checking tickets individually but the crowd got so big they had stopped and let everyone in. So in theory if you had a seated ticket you could have made the pitch and wouldn't have been turned away. I wonder if people actually did this and that was the reason for the congestion?

Stadium gigs are grand, sound was fine for me but maybe Dublin should use other more modern venues. But for me if I did have a choice, give me a wide open field over a stadium any day!
