Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can anyone list the timeline of breakfast shows on Nova since the station started in 2010?

Earliest I can remember right now, is Joan Lea and Marty Miller around 2013...

The original breakfast show presenter on Nova was Pat Courtenay. I would say if you do a search of this or other threads about Radio Nova you should find out more about the timeline.

Joan Lea was replaced by Dee Woods, who was replaced in turn by Conor Irwin.

I'm sure Hayes demanded the switch as Classic have a larger audience reach, on FM anyway.

I'd say that he left because of the survey. By all accounts, him and Loopy got heavily hit.

Think as well as a presenter, he was programming director (or something). Wonder who'll be taking that over?

Look at the end of the day it's a switch . New PD / Consultant must be reviewing the listenership / demographics for the change.
One would think they are trying to increase the Nova listeners on breakfast.
I have to say I Listen to Classic hits as the guys are easy on the ear and come across as genuine . Best wishes to them both as they start on their journey .

Do you have some inside info on the survey results?

No direct info, just what a lot of people online have said. They almost all slated the breakfast show and Hayes in particular.

Why put that on a national station though, just leaves him open to a lot more complaints, particularly as the current breakfast show on classic hits works.

Sounds like Hayes' ego taking over to me

Same I listened every morning to Marty and Dee, and couldn't deal with Colm and Lucy at that time of the morning when they switched. I really enjoy PJ and Jim so will be switching back to Nova now.

Similar situation here. Nova is on at work after 10 but before that ut is PJ and Jim. Do like the làds at breakfast and it doesnt seem too forced. So suppose it will be Nova all say now. Like Marty and Dee if they just cut the excessive baby talk. I think they (both) might have mentioned one of the juniors went back to childcare tisay ooohh just a few times😓

I heard Adele and George ezra on over the last week or so, and some other rubbish.
Is this a new strategy? Is that part of the shake up?
If so, my car radio will need to be removed 😔

George Ezra has always been played on Nova and regularly 2/3 years ago, never heard Adele though

Hopefully after Friday, neither of them will ever be played again on Nova.

The only way I want to hear an Adele song on Nova is if it's a cover. Like Black Stone Cherry's version of Rolling in the deep.

Really?! Great!! I had not listened to Nova in so long, that I had no idea it would be coming back.
Now if they only get John Clarke and Pat James back on FM!

I haven't listened to Nova since that breakfast show started and I see that John Clarke has a Sunday morning show on Nova according to their website! Is this true or is the website outdated?

Pat James prefers being on the digital channel - no ad breaks, no news breaks and nobody to interfere with the playlist.

In that case, with the transfer of Colm Hayes to Classic Hits, Radio Nova will now have only two presenters from the 1980s superpirates: Greg Gaughren and Pat Courtnenay. I do believe that will be its lowest number since its launch.

Well that certainly was an interesting soundtrack from Greg Gaughran last night. Lots of the well-known numbers (but with knowledge and interaction in between!), and yes, maybe he did Coldplay and Imagine Dragons, but he also played Good Charlotte, a forgotten band whom I've never heard played on the radio ever. And then Chuck Berry at the end. Man, he is something else!!

Greg also confirmed he'll be filling in on the breakfast show for the next couple of weeks. Happy happy days!

Indeed the world was a much better place last Friday night for 3 hours with the return of the FRNS and then with Greg on Saturday playing some choice tracks ! I really think they are starting to listen to what people want in the evening time !

My sister went out with him years ago before he got married and lost the plot. Good DJ tho.

So turns out that Nova can be accessed through the Classic Hits app for the phone, only copped on to it this morning, spares me having to download the actual Radio Nova app.

I never knew that! That's an interesting detail. Thanks for that. I actually have Radio Nova's app already on my phone, but this may be useful for some of those making the switch from Classic Hits to Nova for PJ and Jim.

Total accident that I found it. But for those who'll want to access it via the CH app, just start the app, tap the 3 bars to the left once you start the app, should see home, schedule, change station, settings.

Tap the change station, and it allows you to choose between Classic Hits, Radio Nova, Sunshine 106.8, and Classic Hits Bits.

With the arrival of Jim McCabe in April, he will be adding to the number of presenters on Nova that have gone through Dublin's 98FM at some or point or other in their careers. Besides Jim, they include Marty Miller, Dee Woods, Pat Courtenay, Greg Gaughren and Ruth Scott.

I think instead of 80s music every week on a Friday night, they should do a show called "Through the Decades" where they cover a different decade each week. One week it would be 60s, the next it would be 70s, the next it would be 80s, the next 90s and so on. Maybe from the 60s all the way up to the 10s, on a six-week cycle, after 10s week it would be 60s week again. Absolute Radio has a similar show presented by Jay Lawrence
