Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey everyone - does anybody know how common it is to get feedback after an interview with the big firms if you didn't get the place? Or do you have to ask, or do they give it to you anyways?

  • Registered Users Posts: 134 ✭✭Coulter97

I'm guessing "casual" for A&L presentation doesn't actually mean shirt and jeans?

The general rule is that they'll give feedback after an individual interview but you have to ask for it. Some firms will give more detailed feedback than others, some might give you just a generic answer that doesn't actually help you.

Does anyone know if there are two rounds of Byrne Wallace interviews?

Really? I got feedback without asking.

Had the exact same feeling. Two very cold interviewers in a rather dimly lit room. I was surprised as my previous interview with them last year was very nice

    Was it a tough interview?

It will definitely be different based upon your interviewer. However, my interview was probably one of the more challenging ones I've done so far. We spent at least 30 mins on commercial questions- The impact of a strict regulatory environment on business, are merger clearance requirements in the eu too strict and whether they should be relaxed to allow eu companies to compete with international players..and some other similar qs.

What made the interview more challenging imo was that they challenged absolutely everything I said.

For example, I said that one of the reasons that I wanted to be a lawyer was that I enjoyed the academic rigour of getting to grips with challenging material and drawing out a creative solution.

The follow up question was to explain to them the most challenging legal concept that I encountered at my time at university.

They also asked me why I didn't want to be an investment banker or consultant, where I could work in a similar commercial environment.

So I would definitely be prepared to stand my ground and not be fazed by tricky follow up questions.

Had the same experience! Trickiest interview thus far. But I will say, I know some people that were pushed hard but others not at all. If you're getting grilled it's probably because they think you're very good.

Not sure when they’re getting back but RDJ is unpaid

Anyone know RDJ trainee and NQ Salaries?

    Internship is definitely not paid

Wow. Baffling how they like to advertise themselves as a 'Top 10 firm' but don't pay any interns. Not going to interview with them if I get the opportunity.

I think that's about half of what Pinsent Masons offers.

Yeah it's pretty lousy, most of that would be gone on rent..

24k is very lousy if it's positioning itself as Top 10, especially considering Top 4 Accounting pay 26k

True, but they’ll always get people who didn’t get any other internships to do it for the experience I suppose, don’t think they take as many interns as the rest either

    Hey all,

does anyone have an opinion as to whether one would be better off taking an internship/traineeship in Pinsent Masons etc or one of the existing 'Big 5' firms?

Anyone have any information on either? from careers events or university careers events?

Also. does anyone know who the new firm paying €75K fof NQs is? I saw that to be the case on the Appenture Parenters document recently?
