Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Now lashing on the Mizen Head, near Schull. Absolutely nothing showing on the Met Eireann site, as someone forgot to switch on the Shannon rainfall radar for the long weekend.

Looks like a pile of rain heading to Galway on the Sat image

I thought I heard thunder near Limerick City but there is no detection of any lightning strikes near me over the past hour on met.ie rainfall radar. I miss the Shannon radar coverage at the moment.

tis a grand day here (N Dub) and actually improving with lots of blue sky appearing. 19.3c.
Of course its a different story in the west!

    fixed your post.

youd swear ''the west'' was in bloody Narnia on here sometimes.Christ.

    Christ, passive aggressive.
Here's a nice cloud pic of Dublin to cheer you up on this bank holiday weekend. Krispy Kreme and the ever present Garda Helicopter included for added Dublin-ness. Pity us Dubs are uneducated as Im sure there is a better word for Dublin-ness ;)

Cloud tops have been gaining altitude as convection is forming over land but no sparks yet. Temp dropped about 2C since the heavy rain started.

    6.6mm atm

Precipitable water chart from the latest 'rapid ECMWF up around midnight or thereabouts. Gives a good idea of where fronts are placed:

    9xK1yec.gif

Looks like the most 'intense' area will run up through the midwest and into the north midlands as the afternoon and evening wears on. Here in Galway, it neither feels or looks all that thundery to be honest.

Oddly, getting some distant rumbles now but still looks like a standard Irish day.

Limerick now included in the warnings

Status Yellow - Rainfall warning for Connacht, Donegal, Clare, Kerry and Limerick
    Update to previous warning:
Heavy thundery downpours this afternoon and evening will lead to flash flooding and hazardous driving conditions. Intense rainfall amounts of 20 to 30 mm in a short period of time likely.

Really? Didn't know that. Makes sense when I think about it, we get all the good stuff as things don't really matter once you go outside the pale ;)

Just standard moderately heavy rain here. I've seen worse. Not even a flicker of a breeze which makes the increasing humidity levels feels worse. 15.0mm in the 'oul bucket so far.

Sudden clear blue sky down here in West cork, very strong gusts though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,238 ✭✭✭Oneiric 3

    very strong gusts though.

    Sounds lovely!

May indicate that there is a shallow low developing over the SW region.

Looks like Kilkenny is missing most of the rain again, must be one of the driest areas again this summer.

All I can say is that the Kilkenny climate station's rainfall total is running 100mm below average to date.

Fairly modest hourly totals at the university but could be higher in the east side of the city:

Met Eireann progging that it would be atlantic coastal counties most prone to thundery showers.

you'd go bald in this country tearing you hair out to hear a clap of thunder. Its either all out at sea or fires up on exiting the country.

very dissapointing given their forecast last night made all the more frustrating with the lack of proper radar returns.

set alight across the water with storms.

    gas.

    Decent day in Arklow
    Warm earlier,max of 20.2c
A few spits of rain in wind now
Dark sky south but from radar only a finger of the precipitation of this thread will transit here, most well inland

8.6mm here of much needed rain in the last 24hrs,mostly last night and a few showers around 10am

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,023 ✭✭✭Donegal Storm

In West Donegal for the weekend, nice enough morning but some good old fashioned bank holiday weather all afternoon, a real washout. Had a few too many last night so thankfully had no plans for the day!

Radar shows sferics nearby as well but can't say I heard anything
