Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Virgin Media side of this deal apparently has launched today with eir Sport 1 on channel 410.

But apparently no eir Sport 2 for VM customers either - seems this channel will now be exclusive to eir Vision/Eir Broadband customers having already been removed from Vodafone TV on 1st August and soon to make way for VM Sport on Sky.

Are there not WC rugby games on eir sport 2 thus people will miss out?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,851 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

I don’t think there are any simultaneous kick offs in the RWC, there’s an odd number of teams (5) in each group so even if they kicked off final group games at same time someone would still be disadvantaged.

Pro14 is a different story, however...and I’m long enough in the tooth to remember Setanta putting Leinster v Munster on the less available Setanta Sports 1 (the present eir Sport 2) rather than the then widely available Setanta Ireland.

Maybe they are going to close eir Sport 2 down instead and that is why it is being pulled from other platforms. But I’m not so sure of that.

rugby is on eir sport 1 only (unlike football WC there are no last round group games on at the same time plus each group has 5 teams) so no need for two channels

looking at the pro 14 fixtures there are a lot of games not going to be on eir sport even with TG4 being a broadcast partner - a lot of games not going to be shown in the irish market which is disappointing

I have just been talking to an Eir sports representative, a very nice Scottish woman, she informed me that I will receive every Rugby World Cup game & every Pro 14 game, & every Champions league game & Europa league game as well as Saturday night gaa league games & Airtricity & other foreign football, I receive Eir sports on my Sky dish.

Not bad for see € 15.99per month.

Every game that they actually show you will get.

Their definition of “every” differs from mine, because without the VM Sport Extra channels you will not receive every Champions League game, only those shown on the VM Sport main channel (and on FTA VM One/Two/Three where applicable).

I wouldn't take that as gospel. Where last year there were plenty of matches that Eir didn't show live, their reasons for doing so were different from what they will be this season.

With Eir Sport 2 last year it was a simulcast of Premier Sports 1, so any game that was shown in Ireland on Eir Sport 1 and Premier Sports 1 in the UK was blanked out on Eir Sport 2. That will no longer be the case this season. So if as was the case last year you had 2 matches on at the same time, the extra match will now be shown on Eir Sport 2. There should be a much higher percentage of live matches being shown by Eir compared to last season.

The extra channels are on the eir green app. They will hardly be carried on satellite.
    Probably only in sd too.

15.99 for how many months? Quoted 2 months for me before increasing to 30 per month after that.

No eir app of any colour for satellite only customers.

There is only two VM Sport extra channels. Or at least there's only two on the app currently. I can't see how they can show all Champions League or Europa Leagues matches that are on at the same time during the group stage.

There is more on VM cable TV - six I think. That’s enough for the Champions League now (with two games moved to the early slot) but not the Europa League.

I see. Didn't Eir say that all games would be available? If there's no red button and only 3 channels in total including the two extra channels then that won't be the case.

When is VM Sport going onto Sky for Eir Sport customers?

I stand corrected- 419 is VM sport in SD even though the dog says HD

433 is VM sport in HD

Yes as part of the Sky Sports Extra package with BT Sport

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,902 ✭✭✭kooga

The virgin media sport channels x3 in SD on evision are terrible quality compared to RTÉ 2 HD even though all three say HD

Eir Sport 1 HD is 410 on Virgin Media Horizon boxes.

I wrongly assumed VM Sport were showing the Europa League qualifiers tonight. I guess they don't have the rights

Premier Sports are showing the Celtic and Wolves games this evening

Comes up every year (and in fact on this very thread this day last week).

For the UEFA Champions League, the TV rights sale covers the playoff round.

For the UEFA Europa League, the tv rights sale does *not* cover the playoff round. The rights are assigned to the home club who can sell them (or not, as the case may be). Same as the three qualifying rounds before it.

Not sure why this is the case, though the Europa League has an extra knockout round later on which might have something to do with the original rationale.

    SD Boxes - 410 eir Sport 1
    HD Boxes - 410 eir Sport 1 / 440 eir Sport 1 HD
    Horizon - 410 eir Sport 1 HD

VM have labelled the channels eir sport 1 and eir sport 1 HD - looks a bit strange without a capitol S

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,851 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

No apparently not. It is going to be an eir Broadband/Vision exclusive channel once it leaves Sky on September 12th,

(Either that, or they are closing it down).

More and more it seems to me like eir have negotiated a really good deal for them - full access to all of Virgin Media Sports content for all of their customers, in return VM get one of their two channels but no eir Sport 2, no eir Sport Xtra, and only for TV customers to boot.

Good info! I'd hazard a guess and say they'll shut it down, they barely have enough content to run 1 channels. They could use the eir extra channels for clashes. vm should have agreed these, poor effort!

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,851 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

No, VM are apparently not getting those either. That’s why it seems to me like this deal is so much a better deal for eir customers than it is for VM ones.

An eir Broadband only subscriber gets access to eir Sport 1, eir Sport 2, eir Sport Xtra 1&2, VM Sport and VM Sport Extra 1&2.

A VM Broadband only customer gets....a really good broadband service.
But no eir Sport or VM Sport for that matter. Nope. VM’s response is “take TV if you want TV”, which is fair enough I guess but it really is telling their broadband customers to move to eir if they want the eir Sport pack and don’t want VM TV (for example if they want to take BT Sport, which VM are the only major provider not to offer).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,816 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

If eir sport 2 is gone off of satellite how will eir show gaa league games that throw in at the same time. Don't some of the pro14 games also kick off at the same time?

It would seem strange that VM Sport would be on satellite and not carry some of the eir content. Could it be shared? I presume eir sport are still in some sort of contract to carry the 2 channels on the sky system.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,902 ✭✭✭kooga

To get vms in hd on evision you need to add the hd pack for €4.99 pm

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,847 ✭✭✭roadmaster

Rang Eir to cancel or see would they give me a deal to stay. You would have a better conversation talking to a computer. He said no deals and why would I want to leave I said price and the football/Hurling leagues the only think that would keep me. He told me they don’t show Gaaaaa .At that stage I said good luck to Eir the worst telecoms providers known to man

According to the eir website, Virgin Media Sport is replacing eir Sport 2 on Sky this Thursday (12th), although looking at the Guide on my Sky box, the listings swap at 7am on Friday morning for Scotland v Belgium

As an Eir customer with e vision I'm delighted with Virgin Media Sport now being on Eir - really enjoyed the euro qualification coverage over the weekend.

Although the Channel name has been changed this morning to Virgin Media sport HD, the Eirsport 2 logo is still showing & a recording of last season's Ulster v Leinster game is showing.

I wish it would stay like this as I have BT Sport, Virgin Media sport is absolutely no use to me.

Odd that they have changed the channel name and listings without changing the actual pictures yet. Presumably someone in Setanta needs to do something to change the feed from eir Sport 2 to VM Sport which they haven’t done yet.

Is the Sports channel set-up currently on Eir TV the final arrangement? I was hoping ESPN would revert back to being part of the package after being removed in August, but so far this has not happened?
