Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Leyland 262. They are 55-60Hp. If I remember right they always had a decent rear liftuch better than a 165. I say this one was on the road a bit as I see a light plug on the rear and there is twin beacons on it.

a bit of a difference between 165 and 262of the same age .leyland no dealers now, bad breaks ,bad hitch and need weights for a bale otherwise a good enough yoke but not 4.5k

Wow looking at this thread has me thinking is it time to sell my 20 year old 85hp landini. What is it worth, 4wd 5700 hrs, mechanical perfect interior rough and exterior off farm condition bit of rust on one mud guard??

    Great tractor. Perkins engine

No log book makes it worthy of scrap value unfortunately

Just get a new log book, or more likely with a tractor like that, don’t bother and just start off the road.

How hard is it to get a new log book I wonder? Is it something that the existing owner would have to apply for or can anyone do it

It would be a shame to put that on a scraper.... it's in very good condition...

15k euro however no hours on add. I suspect that hours are very high. However alot tractors in NI are generally in the cat system. This one is not so that would have effected value as well

Is it worth fixing up old MF 165 in the hope of getting a much improved price for it? Néed a better 2nd tractor at home so I'd like to replace it... Ours runs and drives, albeit poorly... Would need a steering overhaul. hitch replaced, new cab etc... Id say its worth 3.5 - 4k based on whats being asked on done deal and 165's are selling quick from what ads I've been following.. Could easily spend 4k on it but I don't think it would be a 8 k tractor if it were fixed up..It'd still be a 165 at the end of the day and they arent able to manage alot of new implements

Has she the Perkins big engine?.. Is she square axle?... The 2 most important things that make a 165. The rest of issues will be superficial like Blue5000 says.

We had one here years ago traded it one of the biggest regrets of my machinery life. It's my aim to buy one again but I need to have a spare few quid first.

  • Registered Users Posts: 538 ✭✭✭divillybit

It'd be a round axle 165 we have with the big engine, but yea I'm thinking I'll hold onto it and fix it up little by little

What's the cat system referred to in post 117?

Wouldn't be a fan of the round one myself. They don't make as much as the square.

Suppose it’s down to the individual buying and his options to get a book or if it bothers him at all.

Personally I’d never buy a machine for use with no book

Alot to be said for the older tractors, and how much power they can have at the pto with no modern electronic transmission sapping it's power. This Fiat 88-94 looks like a good goer, showing 100 hp at the pto.

Wrong thread maybe but I'm from a farm but I have no clue about tractors etc. How do I learn how to fix things and restore things? How do I know what something needs?

Even something like fixing lights, wiring new lighting. Is it difficult to learn?

YouTube videos, lots of stuff up there, there's also lots of dedicated sites ,a lot of agricultural stuff is fairly straightforward ,if you are anyway mechanically minded you should be able to manage quite a few jobs,

I know its done up and may be targeting the tractor road run market but would pay 11k fot an MF240

I would not. Being Re registered in this country doesn't help its value. Imo that's 1 to 1.5k off its value. Even if it's a good job done to it, it's still a MF135 in all but name. I think 1987 was one of the last years they were produced on the UK and Irish Market which helps its value.

    It's worth 7.5 to 8k but I still wouldn't buy her.

52 days on DD would say not.
If mechanically sound, it is worth a bid - doesn't take much (in the scheme of things) to blow a coat of paint over it. Hard to actually tell the condition of it from the photos, I'd like to know why it was painted in those colours - it looks recent and the smart money would have been in returning it to factory scheme.
    A few tacky add-on's but nothing off-putting.

Should probably have addressed the colour scheme in the advert, will get polluted with eejits phoning up wanting to know the heritage of it. Whenever I put up ads I write up a lot of info about it - weeds out people phoning asking stupid questions (mostly).

If it was mechanically sound and the price was right, it wouldn't put me off. I'd drive it about for a while to make sure it was okay and then blow a coat of paint over it.

Not sure if they are looking €25.5k for it. If so, it is step even if it was in standard colours.

It’s got the dodgy gearbox so at a max even if original 16k incl vat would be a good price for it, it’s getting very hard to even source parts for f series tractors especially with the gearbox it has
