Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Right lads, it was decided that the Forum needed it's own Off Topic Thread.

This is where ya come to shite talk, have a crib, talk about your glory days, have a bit of banter and slag everyone elses Unit. Basically, the kinda stuff any good soldier does :p

The Moderating won't be as strict, such is the nature of the thread with banter etc. but make sure the banter is light hearted. Step out of line and expect to be punished.

Let the shite talking commence. :)

Anyone gonna be at the Brigade Competition coming up very soon? If so let me know and we can have a talk over some Army curry :pac:

Don't you, like, need a Brigade to have a brigade competition?

When's the last time an Irish Brigade ever did anything as a brigade? Being appointed to Brigade S-3 has got to be the death knell to an Irish officer.

    NTM

I hope you're not suggesting that the DF is undermanned or is not quite what it says it is? :pac:

Right here's one (old sweat time)...

Any of the older lads here remember the song from Lebanon..

"Christian shells from Saff Al Howa came raining down upon Tibnine.."

I'd love to get the rest of the words to it.

So that's what BDO stands for!

You've no idea how many times I've been on Stand Too and heard the BDO being mentioned and I've never had a breeze what it meant, apart from the fact it was an Officer :pac:

Could it not also be a Battalion Duty Officer?

Well in my day it was CDO. That is Command Duty Officer and we did stand too in Clancy Bks. Do you know where that is? :p:p

Without getting too operational about it, the CDO as it was back then is the BDO now.

"Careful, careful the place is full of Mods and heavy hitters Iceage"

Yeah...but if the CDO is the BDO who might be an NCO...... whos on base?? :P

Do these abbreviations actually do anything or are they there to keep old men in work?!

I heard some very interesting news during the week with regards the Recruitment Ban on the PDF at least. Will wait till I hear more before spreading the word.

Heard at work today that a circular is being drawn up re: tax on pension lump sum. Still nothing concrete but it seems to be firming up. If it does come in I see a mass exodus of those close to retirement and with no new bods allowed in it would appear that poccington will be on back to back duties for the next 3 years or so :p

With 25yrs service I'm paying close attention to this also, if they're planning a future levy on my pension I'm off into civie street.

I recommend to all the lovely members of the Military Forum to buy tomorrow's Irish Sun. The DF's most high profile civvy, Miss Colette McBarron will be spilling the beans on how "badly" she was treated by the big bad Army. I guarantee it shall make for some hilarious reading.

It will also give you an insight into just how mean The Vikings really are to their troops :P

    Irish Sun.

That tells ya all you need to know:P

    Did anybody get it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,497 ✭✭✭Poccington

    I got it.

I've never seen so much ****e in my life. She's a liar and I for one am thankful that she's no longer in uniform.

    What a ****.

Regarding Miss Mcbarron, all i can do is slap my forehead, grimace and groan. She just put a bullet-sized hole in her foot. I mean, the Sun? If she cared one iota, she would have at least gone to the Star. But no, the british owned Sun, who in the same breath mentioned the rights of the Gurkas to british citizenship. Oh Colette, what have you done?

    Yeah it was her.

No, she was just talking about how scared she was while in the Army, how mean the Army was to her, how scary it was listening to people have sex, how mean Big Army is to females... Even though Big Army is afraid to do anything wrong to females. Then there was this absolute gem, she was giving out because the uniform isn't flattering to females. Oh and of course, she said she would've won Miss Ireland if it wasn't for the Army.

In reality, Big Army bent over backwards to accomodate and deal with McBarron. She got more rope than most and rather than do some good, she hung herself with it. It's been a long time since McBarron's main priority was soldiering, thank **** she is gone.

And when she got through to the final or whatever she was saying how the army was a big help to her!

"I think being in the Army is a plus. I wouldn't be at liberty as much as other girls to speak out, which isn't a bad thing."

    Silly b***h.

I shared a house in limerick with a few Guards for many years. The sound of them having drunken sex upstairs while I tried to watch tv still sends a chill up the spine.

The biggest problem with listening to others having sex is you start to wonder why you aren't doing the same... and is slowly eats away at your soul.
    Poor Collette.

She sold a Boatload of Bull to the Tabloids about the DF, and while The DF will not sling some back, the members can talk about her.

I am willing to bet there are more than a few people with stories about her, but they won't talk because they have a little thing called integrity. In the meantime, slander begets slander me thinks.

The silly **** was in the News Of The World today. Apparently she burned her uniform after she went on her ticket.

Chargable offense that....willful and improper use of Military equipment or something to that effect. Usually carried a fine.

I remember some time ago seeing a pic of her in some paper in dress No 1's. Had she employed the time of a good tailor she might not have looked like a sack of sh!t tied up in the middle.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,195 ✭✭✭goldie fish

I think she also picked the wrong paper to be a prude in. Page 3, some random chicks boobs, page 5, failed officer complains about men looking at porn...

Were they the No. 1's she got after Commishioning or before? The ones before do look sh1t, after, they are tailored.

Cadets have tailored No. 1's during training as well as after being Commissioned, she just happened to look like a bag of ****e.

So I suppose I should tell ye I have been posing as an RDF Civvy the whole time?

I was Really in The Normandy landings with the Brits. After the war where I am the one who actually killed Hitler, but the damn Politician's wouldn't let me have my glory, I went to the American's and served in the Korean war and Vietnam. Piece of Cake that was, I was part of the US Special Forces there and carried out a number of Black Ops. I was the one who started Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta. After literally having to knock out some REMF Brig Gen in the US Army. Then We led on to the Gulf war and Mogadishu, I can't tell ye what I did there because the 30 years necessary hasn't passed yet. I will tell ye though, there was no man on the Grassy Knoll, I was up higher in a Building 2.3 miles away with a trusty oul Lee Enfield Mk. 4. I even trained the real Jack Bauer, the Real guys name is spelt Bower, but they had to change it for PERSEC obviously. I was also in Rhodesia with the SADF, but that's a bit of a touchy subject.

Sorry I lied to ye before lads, but this is the Truth.:D

God, I can't believe that girl. I actually trained with her and she seriously is a sack of ****.

And I really think she's ugly.

Plus, winning some long jump at u-14 hardly makes her a legendary athlete, trust me the girl couldn't run if ya chased her. Although she purports she is sponsored by nike.. hence the nike symbol tattooed on her tit.. classy classy girl.

She was a bag of ****e by the time I worked with her though.

Just saw her result on the other thread, her best event was High Jump. Everything else she was middle-end placings.

    my point exactly.

well, she's only made a fool of herself. anybody who has been in the DF knows the lengths they go to in order to prevent bullying and harassment. some of the best people i know are in the DF, people who take pride in wearing their uniform, and spend arduous lengths of time:P away from home. this gombeen couldn't even stay in the barracks for one night of duty. committed? i think not.

and as for hearing people having sex... she obviously never lived in student/rented accommodation!! it's a simple fact of life honey, hardly unique to the army so get over it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,533 ✭✭✭iceage

Question is, do you think she'll ever apologise for making a totol cnut of herself and embarrassing the whole of the DF? Especially her female colleagues who I'm sure would love ten minutes in a room with her. Good at the high jump yeah was she............in the words of an immortal hero, "Why I oughta!!

A young 17 year old I was,got hammered, some couple tried to lead me away from my group rather subtly(for god knows what!)missed the warm-up act and sobered up in time to see the main act and a man in a wet suit talking to me.

Also fell on top of a women who then went on to lecture me on the dangers of drink and we sang Angie all the way home on the bus......
