Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Winds have certainly picked up here, sun is long gone, squall has just passed..power gone a few km's up the road.....red warning about to kick in...interesting afternoon ahead!

Just heard about the alerts. I'm on holiday and due to get into Dublin at around 10 tonight from the canaries. Anyone know if flights are likely to be affected? I know Dublin will only be on yellow by then but wondering about knock on effects from the earlier orange.

Athenry, bit of a breeze so far.

Slight increase after a swift hail shower.

Looks like the centre went directly over K4 around 09z and is now around 55.5N 11.5W. Pressure dropped as low as 951.4 mbs at that time and has now risen slightly to 951.8. Winds went quite slack then picked up briskly northwest 21 kts at 10z.

Satellite imagery shows the core of strong winds about to slam into west coast, elements are racing east at 80-100 knots (doesn't mean there are winds of that strength in the lowest 1-2 kms).

Expect Mace Head to be well into 70s by 11z and low to mid 80s (knots) 12z and 13z.

Noticably a little brighter here and not quite as violent. Has been truly awesome!

Winds have picked up considerably here. We had some snowfall earlier but the wind is higher than I expected this early.

As they're knock on effects, nobody here can possibly predict them. It's a game of wait and see, no magic psychic available!

Now you're talking, first meaty gusts, shaking the car around the place and making an awful racket in the chimney, there'll be no fire lit today.

Thats not the point I was making, they updated their times for the red warning on their website, but the tv still had the red warning for 1 pm to 4pm.
Perhaps the forecast was pre recorded?

Windy now in Limerick City, but nothing out of the ordinary just yet.... totally overcast now and the sky has a real mean look to it. Windchill is very evident. 4.0c atm.

After a brief lull, back to squalls. New feature that there is short pause after each then the next one crashes in. Dark again too.

Lit the fire earlier and it is grand. Loves this wind direction.

Some solid gusts hitting the house south of Athenry. Might get up and get breakfast in case the power goes.

The website and the app from Met Eireann are reporting different times (updated on the website) maybe that has something to do with it?

Dubious gusts from the WT1 buoy off the Belmullet coast. Gusting to 94 knots, however I've noticed it always seems to report unrealistically high gusts in every system. But here's the chart for the record.

My phormiums are horizontal in the garden and the contorted Hazel seems to be loving it too.

Im in two minds now as to whether or not I should do my usual storm tour from Ballyvaughan to Doolin taking video clips and photos of waves etc

    I always stand well back.

Not many trees on those roads

Very windy here for the past while (offshore Galway) and sea starting to get up. Not a spring tide but running quite high, could be interesting

    Galway max gusts at 10am
    Mace Head = 130 km/h
    Athenry = 76 km/h

Left Meath 0830. Sunglasses all the way to Athlone. Sleet all the way after that to NE Galway. All indoors now rain pelting off the windows. Hearing most of Galway City closing shop.

I was lucky not to be knocked over. Sth gal

I thnk overall Jorge has peaked in winds just offshore, as all information is hinting at a slight downgrade in windspeeds compared to what we should be getting. The 00Z ECM 100-metre windchart shows the strongest core at 09Z rather than just onshore at 12Z, a downgrade on yesterday's forecast. Current observations are a little lower than expected too. We'll see what happens in the next hour, but for me it peaked a little earlier than forecast.

Wind starting to pick up on Sandymount strand. Angry looking sea. The dog has a worried look on his face

Has calmed down significantly in west Galway. I think this one might pass quite quickly. Similar to Ali.

Highlights the nonsensical catch-all approach to warnings. Stop applying them to entire counties and define the real area of strongest winds. Needlessly unsettling people with hyperbole.

If any idiot goes swimming at Salthill during this like they did for previous storms for their few mins of fame they should be left to their own devices instead of wasting the time of the emergency services.

In that wind forecast map I posted earlier on, it shows that something of a 'lull' was forecast for west Galway for around this time but with winds picking up again during the afternoon as the low swings further east. We'll see.

11 am TAFs out now have lower speeds, especially for Shannon. Max 50 knots up to 4 pm.

    Dublin max 53 knots from 2 - 5 pm.
Casement max 60 knots from 2 -5 pm.
    Cork max 52 knots from 2 - 6 pm
    Knock max 60 knots from 2 - 8 pm.

Yeah it was a 5 min break I think. Started up again with some sleet too. Was definitely worse earlier.

    The 11am TAF's are out.

Shannon airport is bizarrely forecasting a max of 50kts? (Was 64kts yesterday evening)
    Cork max of 52kts
    Knock max of 60kts
    Dublin max of 54kts

Dead calm and sunny with a lovely blue sky here on the south coast of Cork. Had quite a few snow flurries this morning as it’s quite cold but the snow didn’t stick.
