separately looks certain there will be precipitation in munster tomorrow afternoon. question is whether it will fall as snow anywhere other than v high ground.

Wikipedia claims that in the UK snow reported as falling at any met station is a white Christmas but that in Ireland the sole criteria is lying snow at Dublin or Cork airports at 9am on the day. Hardly correct I would have thought .....
Well most bookies here mention one single flake so really cork airport should come in

you wonder how you police that though. where does a single flake get officially reported?

Ppn type radar should show it?

Any mention of falling snow in an hourly synop report will qualify. Radar is not accurate enough at deciphering precip type at ground level and that far from the radar.

Cork and Kerry airports expecting sleet from this according to the 5am TAF. No mention of precipitation in Shannon, however I'd say there's a good chance of some rain reaching up this far.

Big fluffy snowflakes for the last hour in south Kerry. Not sticking but beautiful to look at.

Surely with snow falling further West only a matter of time before it hits Cork city
Could become very interesting as the snowfall is ahead of when it was due and it will only get colder

Some wintry mix earlier on the way down to Baltimore, turned to wet snow from around
Bandon to Ballinascarthy. A nice clearing down in Baltimore now, sunny but fairly bitter in the wind.

Cork airport reporting 2c and sleet at 2:30.

  • Registered Users Posts: 241 ✭✭kerrycork13

Snowed fairly heavily in East kerry from between 1.30 to 2.30 buy quite wet and now it has eased and turning back towards rain. too wet to stick. Maybe as the front retreats it may snow again.
