Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Surely with snow falling further West only a matter of time before it hits Cork city
Could become very interesting as the snowfall is ahead of when it was due and it will only get colder

Some wintry mix earlier on the way down to Baltimore, turned to wet snow from around
Bandon to Ballinascarthy. A nice clearing down in Baltimore now, sunny but fairly bitter in the wind.

  • Registered Users Posts: 241 ✭✭kerrycork13

Snowed fairly heavily in East kerry from between 1.30 to 2.30 buy quite wet and now it has eased and turning back towards rain. too wet to stick. Maybe as the front retreats it may snow again.

Still a bit to go along the S and SE. Mountains should get a good plastering. No doubt a few good shots from the top of the Reeks tomorrow.

Just rain for much of the day here near Tralee, brighter out to sea now behind the front. Temp has gone up a bit now to 4.1C from a low of 2.9C

GFS 12z has certainly upgraded the chances of snow in England for tonight and tomorrow morning. Shows some snow to the south of Ireland for the next few hours.

I would not be surprised to see an Irish Sea streamer set up later this evening as the low pulls away, however - I doubt it would be long lived as the low pulls away further the winds will back direct north.

Just on the northern extremity of the front here in south Laois along the Kilkenny border, so no sleet or snow to report here. Cold throughout with only a 3.4c max to report from the AWS.

Twenty members of Kerry Mountain Rescue Team are involved in two separate rescues on Carrauntoohil, where conditions are described as very challenging with waist deep snow drifts and very poor visibility https://t.co/HdH7YG8iG3

Worst kind of day here in Cork city. Occasional sleet but mostly driving cold rain and 3 degrees. atrocious stuff. kids got bikes from santa and haven't been able to leave the house over the last 36 hours with the rain to try them out. the fact it was nearly a snow event is the clincher in terms of miserableness.

Models and met.ie called it spot on I should add.

Absolutely hideous day in Cork. Rain, cold, windy. Just muck. Those pictures from the top of Lugg are the polar opposite of what Cork is like today.

Yet people still head out without a care for rescue teams, this was forecasted

The roads like a bottle here in Donegal, and it's after snowing :) I missed it but the top of the car is white.

Good call, it happened as you anticipated. Just goes to show how eager the Irish Sea is to produce convective precip with any sniff of a cold easterly flow, especially at this time of year.

Taken to hospital as a precaution. Hopefully for psychiatric evaluation as well as physical. Bloody idiots.

Didn't realise they set off Christmas day, this really doesn't look good

The problem with snow on a runway is the impact it has on the aircraft braking. It may have as much to do with the aircraft type and the underlying runway surface as it does with the snow itself! Also heavy snow = low RVR which also a show stopper

Looks like the helicopter has gone to hospital in tralee now, hopefully all will be ok. Looks like he was found on "The bone" looking at Sar location history.

    Looks like he is ok.
