Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Nice Mercedes.

Strange that the owner went to the trouble of putting a steering lock in place ...and then left the drivers door window open?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,937 ✭✭✭SmartinMartin

I can see a reflection on that window.

Fair enough, you did what he asked you to. But he is driving with the reg in full view on the public roads? Millions of people can see it :)

Or does he think the internetz is a dangerous place? :D

Doesn't matter. The Guy asked but was happy for the photo to be taken. I applaud both.
    The picture matters.

Now this one puzzles me. It's only 22 so really it should go in the "oldest car you saw today " thread, but a combination of age, model and condition probably make this a classic. What is the critters for each thread?

It'd be interesting to know what it's officially registered as. It should be registered as a tricycle and not a car - with the associated VRT / Motor Tax / NCT benefits.

What's the legal standing with those. I thought it was above board if the original chassis is used? A neighbour of mine has a Discovery on the old single letter Z plate (Dublin circa 1971 I think).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,937 ✭✭✭SmartinMartin

Perfectly legal. General opinion is though that, like the beetles, the revenue will eventually clamp down on them. I'd actually love that one.

Correct. Very few of the examples you see have undergone chassis swops. In many cases, it is not possible to do so.

Well if they have it insured correctly there should be no issue. For example one of them should be insured as a Landrover Series 3 or Landrover Defender long wheel base, or whatever the chassis is registered as, with a modification of having a different body and possibly (probably) different engine fitted.

If its disclosed and the insurance company accepts the modification I don't think there would be grounds for any issue.

Of course, classic insurance is restricted and genrally excludes commuting. Hard to get regular insurance on older vehicles now.

Nobody really knows what owners of these vehicles say to their insurers and it would be wrong to spectulate

what do you mean 'like the beetles'

I mean that afair a few years ago when brand new beetle bodies were being brought in from Mexico and fitted to old chassis, essentially giving the owner a brand new car with classic status, the revenue clamped down on them overnight, causing the closure of several businesses that had built up around the loophole.

    Hi,

Chassis restored and rolling. Doors, rear hatch, wings and bonnet in primer. Bodytub on rotisserie with drivers side complete but unable to find time to get near it much this Summer.

Your Spitfire finished up well. Looks a beaut. Well done.

Feckin love those Dyanes, really want to buy one for my mam - she always wanted one when she was younger but my grandad made her get a Renault 4 instead.

They always seem to me like a super car for bumbling down country laneways with a wicker picnic basket & flask of tea.

    Another Land Cruiser imported...

Spotted yesterday at Arklow NCT (VRT) Centre. Judging by the 'roo bars' on the front, it's an AUS import. Looks to be in great condition.
