If I ever get it I'll let you know. I have the Samsung gear fit 2 but want something different. I paid extra for DHL and they haven't posted it just a few short replies telling me if I can't wait then cancel order. So gonna let the time run out and cancel automatically

I've the huawei series 1 and could only see myself changing for the series two so I can get google pay on my wrist.

I'm looking to sell one. hardly used. Sitting in the box at the moment as I prefer the look of the 1 with the silver strap. Looks more like a 'normal' watch.

My Huawei Watch Series 1 has just kicked the bucket and im outside of my warranty, sad times.

I now definitely will be getting a new watch torn between the Huawei Watch 2 and the Gear S3.

Have you got it for sale anywhere? I'd be interested

Finally got this in the end. Nice watch and nice feel not too bully and I think it's very lightweight. I don't believe it has GPS uses the phone to track that but has most other things in it. Access to Google play store to download apps and I find the battery is good could easily get two days out of it. Good variety of watch faces too. Spotify only works as a remote control to the phone and you don't even need to download the app for that.

It does have GPS ;) usually doesn't work inside but outdoors it's useful.

Yeah, but now Qualcomm are producing a new SoC. There'll be a slew of new models when that goes full production.

Would anyone know where to get a Huawei Watch Series 1 fixed without costing an arm and a leg? Display does not turn on but is still communicating with the phone

I used my phone to pay for stuff twice, very amusing. They rarely see it and when they do you can see the shock in their face. Makes the whole thing worth it :p:D

I've got a ticwatch E which I enjoy, depends on if it suits your needs or not though.

Are you saying you paid for stuff with the Ticwatch E? Thought it didn't have NFC.

    https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/05/12/qualcomm-and-google-are-developing-a-brand-new-soc-for-wear-os-smartwatches/
It will be the successor of Snapdragon Wear 2100, but, unlike this SoC which was just a modified Snapdragon 400, it will be a brand new processor made from scratch and specifically based on Wear OS.

If QC pull it off (which presumably they have if a Q4 launch is imminent) then performance is likely to be notably better.

Just been reading through the thread and Im currently on the fence what to buy.
Looking at getting a Smartwatch which is both stylish but also comes with the features. Trouble is there doesn't seem to be many which have both.

I was looking at the Tic watch E but the more i look at it the more it looks too plasticy and cheap (i know it is cheap so you cant complain :) )

So I started looking further and found the Fossil Gen3 Q Explorist Smartwatch | Smoke which is really nice looking but lacks the Heart rate monitor, NFC, and GPS.

Then there is the HUAWEI Watch 2 Classic - Grey which has all of the features but isnt as nice looking and has the smaller screen.

Trying to decide now whether to go for the Fossil and then maybe get a fitness band for when I want to actually work out or go for the Huawei and compromise on looks and screen size.
Been looking for a few days now and checking out all the available ones but they all have their issues. I think i would like to go with WearOS over Tizen.

Not sure whether to hold off and just wait to see what happens at the end of the year either.

If you're on the fence and not in a rush I'd definitely wait.

    No, thats bloody superb.

    Smartwatches: Niche Product
Subdivide that niche into four: Wear OS, Android, watchOS, Tizen

If we can get all the Samsung market back into the WearOS fold the enthusiasm among devs will probably rise significantly.

My Gear S3 works properly because it has Tizen on it. I'd planned on upgrading it this year but I'd rather have the choice and not be stuck with Wear OS before we even know if Google have fixed it.

Fixed what, it works fine for me. Maybe it could get the attention it deserves to make it a little faster but other than that no issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭jester77

This is awesome news, always liked the gear, best hardware out there but as it didn't have wearOS it was a no go for me. This will be an instant purchase if true and they don't mess up the design. The S2 is still the nicest design in terms of looks and size, hopefully they go in that direction.

I have the Gear Sport and just wondering anyone here bought a second charging dock ?
I was thinking it would be handy to have at work but then seen the official dock is €40 .Is it the same dock used for all the Gear watches ?

Anyone buy a third party one that they would recommend ?

No bother.. Its because it was a good price and I had free shipping with prime I took the gamble on it.

Only thing is it doesn't ship to Ireland so I used parcel wizard... Same as parcel motel but you can choose to get it delivered too you at no extra cost

I got one on eBay I was using for the s3. It got fairly hot and the watch displayed that it wasn't an official charger. Seemed to work OK though. The watch went missing not long after I got the charger. :(

Ticwatch E was what I wanted, but nowhere stocked them out west...ended up with a huawei watch 2, very nice wear, but more than I would have liked to spend (even with a huge discount) ...

Got the Gear S3 Frontier in the end, love the watch.

The screen on the device is amazing, so clear.

Even with the servers down it's a great watch.

I'm tempted to pick up an S3. Haven't had a smart watch before, but i like the look of this, and it would be handy for golf. It's a hell of a lot more expensive than any watch i've bought before, but i might take the plunge (or do some sort of payment scheme :pac:)

I'm buying soon but not sure which one to go for.
The most useful thing on the watch will definitely be Android Pay so, with that in mind, any NFC enabled WearOS watches recommended?

I was going to get the Amazfit Stratos until I realised it's not WearOS and I'd have to use AliPay.

I was in the same boat as you recently, was looking around at all the options and wanted to stick to WearOS.
In the end it was between the Fossil Explorist and the Huawei Watch 2.

I decided in the end on the Fossil but that did mean no NFC or heart rate monitor. I mainly wanted a classy smart watch which looked good day to day and could offer me the main Android OS functionality and I said that if I was going to use the watch for anything major activity ways (more than just steps counter) I would pick up a more robust fitness band .
Another thing which went towards my decision is that I could go to harvey Norman and see the Fossil where as the Huawei  seems to be only available on order from Currys so no way of looking at it in the flesh.

My only disappointment is missing out on NFC but overall i'm happy with the choice I made.

So had a good look and it appears the only one that's readily available that supports Android Pay is the Huawei Watch 2. Now to find the cheapest price for it.
I can see it on amazon.de for €257 delivered. Anywhere else I should check?

I'm taking delivery of the Xiaomi Amazfit 2 on Monday -
will let you know what it's like.

I have this watch and Android Pay is not officaly supported in Ireland on Android Oreo yet. The app keeps getting disabled on the watch. To use it I have to re-enable it but then after 20 mins or so it will be gone from the watch again.

Its still far quicker just to use my mobile for payments with all the hassle of the above

I got mine from Amazon Warehouse UK. It had a description of "Used" but arrived in excellent condition and looked brand new. Cost me around €150. I like the watch but wouldn't pay much more for it

You're right, about the warehouse deals. £142 with minor cosmetic damage to the packaging.

Ah, yeah - I know. Sure the Watch 2 2018 edition is due to come out in the next few weeks but now that I've made my mind up, I want it now :pac:
How long do you think we'd be waiting to see the majority of new releases? If I paid, ~150 now and sold at the end of the year for ~100 - 120, I wouldn't feel to bad. Seems like the second hand market is fairly high priced for these...
