I think that the fact there are only 48 posts in a thread dedicated to the sequel of a movie which made a billion dollars kind of says it all.

A good portion of which are taking the piss out of it and the recent batch of posts just linking to teaser trailers followed by a discussion on "does anyone care" :D

Interested to know what it is you think he'll bring to the franchise. Not being funny, just genuinely interested to know. Since his breakout horror The Ophanage (a decade ago) what has he done of note? I haven't seen A Monster Calls but I don't recall hearing much fuss about it.

Bayona is very much in the Spielberg mould. Great visual storyteller, knows how to make the most of the script and should nail the action scenes. Trevorrow is good at comedy but his action directing was barely competent. You can tell when the second unit took over because it's so much better than his stuff.

A good visual director is most of it with these movies. As much as I love Jurassic Park, the script was a "just make it shootable"-type deal.

A Monster Calls is brilliant, I would highly recommend it. That said I'd prefer see him do more stuff like that. The quality of that film is not enough to outweigh the mediocrity of the franchise he's been landed with IMO.

Just hoping for a decent film and not a rehash of previous one's, i'd like to see them focus on BD Wongs character cause he looks like a bit of a

psycho to me, so hopefully he will create a few dino's for some unscrupulous people and we have a face-off between his dinos and Pratts dinos.

"Jurassic Park Dino Wars" sounds good to me.

It was a relatively small release but a fantastic film. Highly recommended.

    So basically Dino-riders?

    Lots of animatronic dinosaurs! Yay!

Am I right in saying Jurassic World was mostly/entirely CGI dinos?

I've seen every JP in the cinema but there's no way I'm going to this muck after the last crapfest. As soon as they decided to have an action hero type character as the lead the franchise was dead.

Well it looks like the Internet has gone insane saying how bad this trailer is and that it has given away the whole movie.. I seriously doubt that we've seen anything from the second half of the movie in that trailer.

I honestly don’t get what people were expecting. There’s a lot not being shown in that trailer.

I’m still looking forward to it. I love all of the Jurassic Park/World movies. Even the third one. Pure popcorn movies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,035 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Only good thing about that trailer was Dr Ian Malcolm back in what looks like a fleeting appearance..

.. fell asleep in the cinema at the first JW (the one time I've ever fallen asleep in the cinema in probably 25/years), so I'm gonna give this a pass.

I'm just to cynical and critical of movies lately, i think from now on i'm just going to view the future Jurassic series as the old 60's and 70's

japanese Godzilla movies and just enjoy it for what it is, a "Monster Movie".

I have not seen the new trailer and i won't, i'm not even going to read what the plot line is and just hope for a good Monster flick.

I saw Jurassic World sat in the same row as two young teenagers. During the whole movie they got excited, got scared, screamed in various parts, but thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing.

It's closer to Jurassic Park 3 than Jurassic Park 1, but geared more towards the teen market than any JP movie. And it worked for them.

So lazy. They're going to rescue dinosaurs so they obviously need BDH and Pratt from the first movie, some young kids just along for the ride a team of expendable militia and a plan that falls apart because they forgot to take into account how unpredictable DINOSAURS are.

And don't forget Teus Rex Machina.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,597 ✭✭✭dan1895

I find it highly unlikely that an ageing T-Rex would attack another apex predator like a Carnotaurus in those circumstances. Must still be banging of guilt after eating your man on the sh*tter all those years ago and still trying to redeem herself.

The Reddit thread on this trailer reeks of disappointment but my expectations are so low that I thought it was fine.

Looks grand, might be enjoyable enough.

Looking at the plot synopsis, it seems that they have taken all the most eye rollingly dumb elements of Jurassic World and formed the central plot around them.
The military seem to be intent on stealing the dinosaurs for their dino warfare project, wouldn't the be better off exploring drone tech? And we back to 'smart, friendly trained raptors', jebus this looks awful.
The less said about 'running away from pyroclastic clouds of super heated ash pouring out of volcano's' the better....

That is one bizarre, badly-paced trailer.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Man, that whole 'running away from a giant CGI (dust)cloud' set piece continues to look so fake, I really don't know why it persists in blockbusters as a minor trope.

As to the trailer, meh. It looks like a blockbuster. Goldblum's moments came off awfully phoned-in, and disconnected from the main action so I'm wondering if it was an expensive, 1-day shoot to ram in some nostalgia bait.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,137 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

Bit of a weird premise and I guess I'd worry about what actually could be there, in terms of story, apart from what was shown.

Anyway, I'd be excited for it. I've enjoyed everyone that has come out including the last one which I just re-watched recently and still thought was great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,047 ✭✭✭Unearthly

I'm going to be one of the few here who actually liked it. For some reason i thought it was going to be about turning dinosaurs into weapons for wars so pleasantly surprised unless they have that for part 3

I wish more films would do this and stop showing scenes from later on, especially when they often show scenes from the climax of the film.

But in reality it's probably a pretty bad idea from an advertising point of view.

It's pretty much the norm for teaser trailers to not reveal much, especially when the film is 7 months away from release and the visual effects from the second half of the film aren't finished yet. I also suspect directors/producers tend to have more input into the early marketing material but as release approaches the grown-ups take over. Either way I think we can be assured that the next trailer when it arrives will spoil every major set-piece and most of the plot.

I'll go to see it because it has dinosaurs, Jeff Goldblum and the music of John Williams, but scene for scene it looks like a reboot or a retelling of JP2 : The Lost World. The plot looks almost identical.

The first Jurassic world was a nod to the first Jurassic Park so maybe this will be a nod to the lost world.

It makes sense they’re going down that route.

    Fallen/Lost
    Kingdom/World

Rehashy reboot, dollar in the bank.

I'd nearly stake my collection of Dinosaur magazines from the 90's and my almost complete glow in the dark T Rex skeleton that there will be a second team there, headed by someone that is also in that senate(?) scene with Ian Malcolm, tasked with capturing dinos.

Barring the gymnastics, I liked JP2, but the book deserved a better movie.

He's sitting in what appears to be a courtroom/boardroom, arguing legal precedent with a bunch of suits...while the lead is running from a pyroclastic flow surrounded by panicking dinosaurs jumping off a cliff...a slight disconnect is to be expected I suppose :p

Absolutely loved Jurassic world, so looking forward to this - it for the life of me I can't see where the plot or story is in that trailer.

I don't know who that kid is, but I look forward to the constant peril he will be in where I could not give a shít if he surives or not, as a matter of fact hoping he doesn't survive so better characters can survive.

Given Ian Malcolm's return was much publicised I had expected he be part of the actual adventure. Instead it comes off as low effort attempt to shovel Goldblums character into the movie without actually having to include him in location shooting. In fact I'd go so far as to theorise that he'll have 5 minutes screentime, probably around the debate about what to do with the dinos, then another quick cameo near the end on a TV report. Enough to slap him on the promos.

Jurrassic part 2 in parts and 3 in general lost the plot a bit but they seemed like Jurassic Park films all the same.
    They were fine.

Jurassic World and this, by the look of things, are just the blandest, by the numbers, corporate goop one could have the misfortune to come across.
It's a waste of Chris Pratt, the phenomenal new technology on offer and the IP to have turned into this generic garbage, on par with the Day After Tomorrow or some Gerard Butler vehicle.

I imagine that we got about 30% of his total screen-time for the movie in that trailer.

I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case.

It makes sense for his character not to be on the island. He spent all of the Lost World telling people to stay away or get off the island.

Agree it will be a small role for marketing reasons

Without over analysing it .......... It looks like dumb action movie fun, which is ok if its good. I wouldnt expect anything more out of it.

Hopefully its a decent popcorn movie. Unlikely to be more than that.

Maybe they just digitally recreated goldblum - Cause they sure as hell didnt give him too many new lines

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 502 ✭✭✭Pero_Bueno

Im sorry but this looks like absolute pants - just like JW.
I shouldn't really be posting here, I guess this is for fans, but what really annoyed me about JW was this taming the raptors ??? like really WTF?

From the original Crichton novel (I must give it a re-read) the whole idea with the raptors, these were totally cold savage animals - from another world 65 million years ago - not a chance of taming them.

This I felt was an insult to their original "character".

And of course all the mindless action and CGI porn (which isn't enough to impress anymore !!)

In the book they were even worse. They hadn't developed any social skills at all as they were the first generation in 65 million years and had no role models. Their was no hierarchy, just chaos with them. In JW the raptors are just little bitches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,815 ✭✭✭SimonTemplar

There is nothing in the Spielberg movies that even hints at the idea that raptors would accept a human pack leader or any kind of taming. It's the worst part of JW which is a pretty bad movie anyway.

Wouldn't it have been great if the first act of Jurassic World 2 was Chris Pratt travelling back to the island eagerly anticipating being reunited with his raptor pack. He finally finds them and just as he is about to make contact like in the trailer, they pounce on him like Muldoon in JP and devour him. Cut to Ian Malcolm saying, "yeah well, um, what did he, eh, think would happen?".

I know The Lost World has a pretty bad reputation but aside from a few missteps (the daughter character) it is an action classic when compared to JW.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

In fairness lads, it's been pretty much proven that any animal can be tamed with enough effort and cruelty. I suppose "tamed" is the wrong word to choose. Conditioned might be better.

There are tons of problems with Jurassic World. Raptors that didn't instantly eat Chris Pratt because he raised them isn't even touching the top 10.
