I wonder could Opel/Vauxhall Zafira's become uninsurable in Ireland after the fire in Cork which was allegedly started by a Zafira which have a known fire issue.

Got a quote for 357 euro from AA. Rang Aviva about rise and was told it had to do with rising claims concerning my type of car(renault kadjar) which sounded like a load of ****.

The car is grand and only traveling short journeys, I shouldn't have to move up a few year to save a money on insurance, I put the car down at a value of €1500 and excess of €500.

Mabey I'm just one of the unlucky ones who's insurance rises every year!

If you are with AXA have you tried changing the yearly mileage on the website when you get a quote?

But you absolutely should move your insurance provider every year

Loyalty is not rewarded by insurers. New business is.

I do move providers if I can get lower quotes.
I have checked a few other insurance companies, they are all comming in around the same price or not even giving me a quote. I'm just at a loss to this whole industry, and can't fathom the high quotes I have received.

Have you tried its4women? We only just got that quote this week...

Is the Golf a 1.9 TDI? Maybe it's a car favoured by knackbags and the insurer's risk assessment shows that!

Also, have you tried TPFT? Not much value in full comp for an aging junker.

Try GMHD brokers. They got me a quote on my car for half what insurance companies themselves where offering. I ended up going with RSA for 900 through GMHD even though they originally quoted me 2200!

2016 Golf, last years was €419, renewal of €416.
    Allianz.

Did a lot of searching online for a better quote, none came remotely close.
Average was around the €500 mark.

So I called to renew and asked could they do it for €400. They did it for €399:D

So I now have both cars costing me under €400. Happy enough with that.

straight up example of gouging and a clear illustration of how these decisions are not made based upon risk..

how is unknown new business less of a risk than the known claims free existing customer?

in a nutshell that's why I switch insurer every single year... pain in the balls going through the same process for two cars but it is what it is

    Wife's policy renewal.....

Age: 38 (additional driver 36, own spearate car)
    Car: 2015 SEAT Alhambra 2.0d (140), value ~€20k
    Cover: Comprehensive
    NCD: 7+
Penalty points: 0 (additional driver 3)
Full Irish DL (15+ years), no claims ever

Current insurer Aviva, last year's premium €565 (changed car from 2013 Mondeo to above mid year)
Aviva Renewal quote: €697 (includes multicar discount, full NCD protection)

Best of quotes from the hunt, AIG (Deluxe Comp cover with full NCD protection) = €542!!
Several other quotes cheaper than Aviva also.

Since we have been with Aviva (2 cars), for the last few years, we haven't been able to beat their renewal quote any year. Maybe last year, there was up to €20 to be saved with some quotes, but not enough to bother changing.
This year, Aviva have gone off the charts!! I guess there comes a time when you no longer fit a particular insurer's target profile as a driver/person, or else you buy a type of car which doesn't fit their target profile.

Anyway, changing to AIG it is so!

Looking for advice for my brother
He is 37 but is just starting off driving. Has provisional but no previous driving experience at all........who is he best to look for quotes from ? Are Brittons still on the go and best for someone in his situation?
Car is likely to be a 2005 focus which might also lessen his quote options given its age

    Just tried Brittons online
    quote given
    NINE THOUSAND EURO

Liberty or Quinn Direct as they were in my time were the best for young/inexperienced drivers. AXA are also worth a shout.
