To be fair she was already doing that as a British citizen so that shouldn't be held against her.

Ooohhh! When did the Edgelord train roll into the station?

Don't they all have to destroy their passport's when joining ISIS as well as renouncing their citizenship? I'm sure she is still legally a British citizen, but surely an exception should be made here to deter others from exploiting the generosity of western nations. Where that would leave her status is a poser of a question but surely an answer can be found. Support of barbarism of the type carried out by ISIS isn't something that should be tolerated in any civilised country.

destroying a passport means nothing. its a piece of paper. Stripping her of citizenship would be very difficult as that would leave her stateless. And you're right, it should not be prosecuted. So if she does return she should be investigated by the police and let the law takes its course.

Is British citizenship given automatically to her children or would they have to apply? My father is from the North, I would have to pay over a grand to apply for UK citizenship so would it be the same for any children she apparently has outside of the UK?

She can burn passports and renounce until the cows come home.. If revocation of citizenship is not done officially through whatever gov't department is responsible then it means nothing.
Symbolically what she's done is completely different of course, and British consulates aren't going to go out of their way to help her though, as much for the domestic optics as national security.
She is a very dangerous woman. I'd not want her coming back to Europe let alone into the country, but she is a UK citizen, and only a UK citizen from what I read, and I don't see how there's anything the UK authorities can do about it.

This is really difficult imo. I was all for letting her stay over there and deal with the consequences of her actions but then I saw an interview with the Father of one of the other girls. It broke my heart watching him. I would say have her brought back and tried for treason or being a member of a terrorist org.

As she was born in the uk (i'm pretty sure she was anyway) her child is automatically a british citizen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,303 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

She wasn't even born in the UK so should have her citizenship revoked and leave her to rot where she is.

She said herself the only reason she wants to come back is so the kid will be taken care of on the NHS, if I was a Brit taxpayer I'd be seriously pissed off about that.

And that's before we even look at the rest of what she said which is that seeing heads in a bin didn't bother her at all.

She wasn't, her father said in an interview with Sky yesterday she came to the UK aged 3

Even the thought of her being allowed back into the UK shows how soft and pathetic the west has become.

And be under no illusions there will be plenty of help and financial backing to get her back into the UK from certain minorities.

Let her go back to ISIS. I'm sure they will welcome her back the way she deserves.

she was born in the uk according to the daily mail

Sharmeena was born to Bangladeshi parents in Tower Hamlets, east London, in 1999. She was largely brought up by her mother Shahnaz Begum until 2007, when her father moved to Britain.

Go back a few posts and see her father attending the hate rallys.

I'm left wing and I started the f*cking thread saying she shouldn't be allowed back in. Likewise it was the left wing who defeated ISIS and fought them, 8 socialists and anarchists from the UK dying in Rojava in the process.

Very, very few of the culture war online alt Right brigade were there I can tell you that.

The far right love the muslims sure........

I think you may have misheard. The father came to the UK when she was 3.

There are two girls with very similar names from Bethnal Green who ran off to IS around the same time .
Sharmeena Begum and Shamima Begum. I think the latter is the one involved here, as she was one of the three who left together, and I haven't seen any comment on where she was born. The former was born in London.

As others have said too, if she's no passport dont support her, let her attempt to make her own way, dont offer any assistance, she may or may not make it

I would nearly bet my house she will have no bother making it.

Whatever your views on her coming back to England it's sad to see the various posters who have just said to either shoot her or kill her. In the article it says she is 9 months pregnant. If you are down with shooting a person who is 9 months pregnant you are no better than the Isis scum that you claim to hate.

I dont think anybody is down with killing the baby. The baby can be fostered and after birth she can be examined by syrian courts

Hang around for a while, plenty of sociopaths on here

Perhaps she feels she must say that she still supports ISIS as if she says otherwise and is not allowed back, then she will be at their mercy...or lack thereof.

Or, if she gets back, she may still get killed for speaking out against them, plenty of radicals in the UK.

It's a hard one to call, if she genuinely supports ISIS then she should be left there as she will just end up being another bad apple.

Oh i've noticed. This after hours used to be funny. Now it's descended into another version of The Journal's comments section. But it's just a symptom of online use nowadays. Most normal people just don't bother posting on message boards as it's just not worth the hassle and the vitriol is something to behold. There's a lot of really angry people out there.

Would she herself not be classed as a sociopath.

Possibly, but my suspicious being a very naive young woman, and probably very scared right now, very complex I'd say, and very very messy, but it was always gonna be like this

It is irrelevant if she no longer has her british passport. She is still a british citizen.

Nice to see The Guardian has its finger on the pulse of public feeling...as usual

Shamima Begum is just a teenager. Britain should be strong enough to take her back

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/feb/14/shamima-begum-britain-isis-recruit

Shamima Begum was groomed. She deserves the chance of rehabilitation
