Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No value in a few having access to boards because they've cleared cookies or some other tweak. There'll be nobody to chat to!

This needs to be fixed for all by a fix (or multiple fixes) by the boards technical team.

Also, any new users (since the slowdown) are not going to stick around.

    Not your ornery onager

No major problems loading pages but what I am seeing is

Clicking linked images just doesn't work
Some forums are coming up with pages from 15/16/17 years ago (bargain alerts for one)

    Using chrome on Android.
Probably a database issue, linked uploaded images also fail, as well as last opened page in forums out of sync.

Seems to be back to normal this evening.

    Well done folks.

Using boards touch site via chrome on iPhone. It crawls on pages with jpegs for me. If I click on the jpeg, it hangs and never loads. Sometimes crashes out of site. If the picture is embedded, things seem to work better.

You had me going there for a few seconds :(

Loading linked attachments (embedded pictures) still totally fails for me.

At least this thread has confirmed it's not my fault, and I don't need to get a new phone (which I was starting to convince myself of)

Sounds reasonably easy for the Boards.ie IT team to fix?

Anyone know what the reason is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,010 ✭✭✭Gen.Zhukov

    Here's what I did - laptop, chrome.

Deleted browsing history, ran CCleaner as I normally would (cos it always gets what is left behind after deleting history) https://www.ccleaner.com/

It's flying along as normal. I see others say it's back anyway so may be a coincidence.

    Working perfectly for me again

There is probably a common feature that is creating this loading problem. But it doesn't apply to me using old Chrome ie 47 desktop and 53 android. The database old posts issue is happening on touch site, along with odd thing, the speaker icon appears for a moment when I click a page. No other site prompts this action. Odd.

Incognito bowser page on the phone, which worked perfectly for two days for me, has given up :(

Hoping the tablet with chrome, which I haven't yet tried, is still ok.

    Any update from HQ?

    Abysmal still. Touch site/Chrome browser/Android.

On 1st May I was told the nodes are under strain causing slow load times and unresponsiveness. They also said they didn't have a time frame for when they might get it fixed. So not holding my breath for a better experience.

Edit: glasso fix has definitely improved things.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Incredibly slow on my iPhone using the Safari browser. Glad it’s not just me experiencing this. Very frustrating, please fix this

Site traffic must be way down. The most thanked posts have around 30 thanks. Normally that's a lot higher, 100+ easily.

I’m having the opposite issue. Incredibly slow on my laptop on the full site but fine on my phone with touch.

It’s strange! On my iPhone 11, it’s so slow but on my old iPhone 6S it’s perfect.

Same browsers (Safari) / Same WiFi

There isn't any logic to why it's working fine on some browsers and not on others. We've two Windows 10 laptops here. It's flying on Edge on one and crawling on the other, for example.

What's more worrying is that there doesn't seem to be anybody trying to fix this. Does boards not have any personnel who have the skillsets to sort this out. Maybe they might consider a shout out to boards users who might be able to help?

Someone should put a link to this in a site announcement

For me it’s been working fine to browse this morning and early afternoon but when I post there’s a big delay. It’s occasionally taking up to 3 minutes on my iPhone for a post to actually complete.

Also occasionally getting the “database error” page.

    Is this another DDoS ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,016 ✭✭✭✭GBX

First day it's been working ok for me. Deleted cookies every day as posted already but only working from today.

I tried all that and it didn't work.

Seems to be entirely random what OS/browser/device works or doesn't.

My phone on incognito worked yesterday, gone to hell today.

A tablet, same browser, same wifi, no cookies or cache clearing done, is working perfectly.

There's no rhyme nor reason to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,964 ✭✭✭trellheim

On average 15.5 seconds for each page on PC today. Irrelevant of page, browser, cookies ; Chrome, IE, Edge , incognito mode

either its timing something out and flicking to an active cache or db server or its a dead ad-tracker but that would be seen in frontend tools

Once the main php loads the rest is instant so my spidey sense says a dead cache server or something like

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,809 ✭✭✭Hector Savage

Very slow for me today ... are they trying to download a snapshot of my PC to track me or what ?

Weird problem. Hopefully it will be fixed for everyone else during the week.

It's like this for months so boards are obviously not really interested in the touch site,I reported same several times last year, answer o got was reinstall boards I did , but it always went back to crap again pretty soon I'd gladly donate a yearly sum to keep it serviced,do it's f all to do with our current dilemma

    Boards Staff: It's the Nodes....

    glasso: It's your cookies...

@glasso, well cookies it seems to be as on multiple devices deleting them made everything super fast.

Boards, I think you have some explaining to do here!
