Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That's why you hold it up to the window, as explained around page 1 of this thread!

No my point is, the one minute it will take for you to explain you will not catch it. Guards are human not robots.. given your situation nobody is going to ask you a thousand questions. I hope everything works out ok with your child.

they were stopping cars near the beach in kilmore last sunday and sent several cars away . people had driven miles just to go for a walk .The previous weekend it was unbelievable what people were there . Some people are just ignorant or thick and think the restrictions are for everyone else

I got stopped at a checkpoint for the first time returning home from work yesterday evening and I have to say the Gardai were very polite and courteous, just asked where I was coming from and where I was going so I showed them my licence and a letter from my employer explaining I was classed as a frontline worker and they wished me safe journey and let me on my way. The whole process took less than two minutes so it's no big deal.

Mask is excellent advice. The rest is pure nonsense.

There could be an accident close to home, in fact that's where the majority occur.

Which is why they've asked everybody to STAY AT HOME unless absolutely necessary.

Jesus, how hard can it be to understand?

But I still had to go to work first in order to get said letter. It's all the one now anyway. Drove to and from work today and not a guard or checkpoint in sight.

Most employers I know of have sent it out electronically, either to be actually printed out (how quaint), or to be kept on a phone or other mobile device. That was done specifically to stop the need for people to drive in and collect it.

Hold on now. The whole point is to reduce risk of exposure or spreading it and that's fair enough.

But the exceptions list is a mile long and that's been risk accepted by employers and the authorities.

So if there's no risk (I'll use my own example of a direct A-B return journey by car with no other people at the far end) then there should be no issue in theory.

The problem is that they (understandably) are aiming at the lowest common denominator, but that leaves the rest of us frustrated unnecessarily (again specifically referring to the example above)

Because clearly aiming at the lowest common denominator is the only way to make this work.

Too many people think they're cleverer, or smarter, or special, and the rules shouldn't apply to THEM.

If your journey is absolutely necessary, then make it. If it isn't, STAY AT HOME.

Yup I got one mailed to me by HR yesterday, though I've no real need for it as I'm WFH anyway the last few weeks

I thought I got stopped by a horse in Castleknock while on foot yesterday, asking me where I was headed to and from. But I looked up and there was a Garda on the horse and it was him speaking. There were no issues and the Garda was sound, the horse had a bit of an attitude tho.......

Seriously, people here would moan about anything.

I've been stopped, both of us were polite, I answered the question and moved on, it's about the police showing a visual presence and proactive policing. It's encouraging people to stay home where possible, I don't get people crying about it on here.

Irish people (or maybe just people on here) love a good moan over nothing, complaining they check tax and insurance, as if the gardai shouldn't be enforcing laws because of a pandemic? Don't break the law and you have nothing to worry about.

The standard Boards comment, rinse & repeat. Let's have the Army on the streets too. The sight of armed soldiers will totally ensure compliance.

You can apply for a replacement disc. I think it costs 5 euro.

Surely to God you know someone with a debit card. Give them cash and ask them to tax your car online for you.

local copper where i live does as little as possible at all times and that includes now

the post office ( which is also a small shop ) is barely big enough to swing a cat in yet despite this has the following sign up

" NO MORE THAN FOUR CUSTOMERS IN SHOP AT ONCE "

it wasnt until i was leaving the post office - shop today and this chump walked right past me ( less than a foot between us ) that my attention was brought to the sign , i looked at your man and asked him would he not wait until i left the shop before coming in

he pointed to the aforementioned sign which i had missed on the way in and said nothing

the shop owner probably printed out a standard sign which is suitable for shops ten times the size but the useless badge across the street couldnt even be bothered having a word with them about only allowing one customer in at a time

the pharmacist not far away has a unit twice as big yet only allows one customer enter the pharmacy at a time

as i said, the local time server here does as little as possible and a public health emergency hasnt changed that

What driver isn't used to a checkpoint? These are useless, just being done to look like they are doing something helpful.

No tax/nct/insurance/license check each time. Simply a tiny little girl who should be no where near a uniform asking me where I'm going.

In your opinion why should she be nowhere near a uniform? Her height? Her gender? You just didn't like the look of her?

    Seriously, get a grip

That fine of 2500 as per linked article relates to specifically covid-19 positives who fail to self isolate.

No theres separate ones for that around detention, where a person can be detained on the advice of a medical health officer if it is believed they pose a health risk.

No it's not...it's the penalty for anyone who breaches a regulation the minister enforces. He has the power to implement any measure necessary to stop the spread of COVID19.
It is an offence (punishable by a fine of up to €2,500 and/or 6 months in prison) to contravene any regulation, or to obstruct, interfere or impede a person in the exercise of their powers under a regulation, or to fail or refuse to give information that is required or to give information that is false or misleading in purported compliance with a regulation.

If your car broke down and needed a tow truck, theres all sorts of emergency crew involved, same if you were involved in a crash.
That's emergency services wasting their time.
It's not convenient but it's not about you or me driving A to B. If the journeys not critical don't do it.

They are attitude checking, I have been stopped three times in the last two weeks . (I'm working and am essential) it was only today that I realised I had never put in the current tax disc as I noticed the guard had a good look at my disc setup before saying "go on so"
Tax was three months out and none of them mentioned it.

They are showing force and all law abiding helpful citizens should support them.

They’re not at fixed points- they’re like any normal Garda checkpoint - I’d say they’re more likely to be seen between medium sized towns- say Athlone and Ballinasloe- querying why people are travelling between the two towns - you’ll also likely see them at visitor hotspots at weekends again ensuring that people aren’t breaching the rules.
