Sky renews Bulletproof for Season 4

Bulletproof will return to Sky One for a fourth season.

Starring Noel Clarke and Ashley Walters as cop-buddy duo Bishop and Pike, the series has been a hit, becoming one of the highest rating titles on Sky One since launching in 2018. It has spawned not only a second season but a third run set in South Africa. With that airing on Sky One this week, Sky has confirmed that Clarke and Walters have already been commissioned to return for a fourth outing.

The eight-part season will see Bishop and Pike implicated in a grisly murder, leaving their jobs, lives and families hanging in the balance. The pair must use every ounce of skill and tenacity to bring down the most untouchable villain they’ve ever faced.

Filming is scheduled for later this year in and around London.

Game of Thrones’ Prequel ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ in Early Development at HBO

A series adaptation of “Tales of Dunk and Egg,” a prequel to the events of “Game of Thrones,” is in early development at HBO, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.

The one-hour show would be based on the series of fantasy novellas by George R. R. Martin, which follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years prior to the events of “A Song of Ice and Fire.”

Martin has published three novellas in the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” series to date: “The Hedge Knight” in 1998, “The Sworn Sword” in 2003, and “The Mystery Knight” in 2010. The three novellas were then collected and published together as “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” in 2015.

‘High Maintenance’ Season 5 Not Going Forward, as Creators Look to New Projects

If you’ve been hoping to get more stories from Ben Sinclair’s The Guy and his life in New York City as presented through HBO’s “High Maintenance” we hate to be the bearers of bad news. The show, which finished its fourth season in April of 2020, won’t be coming back for a fifth.

HBO confirmed as much in a statement to TVLine. “Co-creators Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair have decided to take a break from producing ‘High Maintenance’ to pursue other projects. We look forward to hearing what they come up with next.

    This Sceptred Isle

Kenneth Branagh To Play British PM Boris Johnson In Sky Drama
Henry V star Kenneth Branagh is to play British Prime Minister in Sky drama This Sceptred Isle.

The project first emerged as part of a deal between The Trip director Michael Winterbottom and Fremantle’s Passenger, run by True Detective producer Richard Brown.

Sky Atlantic has now boarded the series with Branagh, who recently starred in Tenet, in the lead. It is produced by Passenger and Michael Winterbottom’s Revolution Films.

The five-part drama will chart the events surrounding the U.K. Prime Minister, the government, and the country in the face of the first wave of the global pandemic.

It will trace the impact on Britain from the pandemic, and the response of scientists, nurses, and doctors as they worked to contain and overcome the virus. It is based on the first-hand testimony of people including those from Number 10 Downing Street, the Department of Health, The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), and from hospitals and care homes across the country.....

Sky announces 'Chernobyl 86' follow up and a number of other projects to compete with the streaming services

Sky is also accelerating its move into documentaries. Following the success of Sky Atlantic’s drama Chernobyl it is airing Chernobyl 86, which has unseen footage of the cleanup operation after the nuclear accident. Other new series include one marking 40 years since HIV/Aids was first diagnosed, and there is a film from Louis Theroux’s production company about the convicted killer Jeremy Bamber.

The pay-TV company that the US conglomerate Comcast bought from Rupert Murdoch’s Fox in 2018 is continuing its drama drive with Wolfe, a pathologist detective created by the Shameless writer Paul Abbott and an adaptation of John Wyndham’s The Midwich Cuckoos. Bennett also said a new series of Succession should air by the end of this year and a second season of the hit Gangs of London next year.

Netflix orders live-action adaptation of Heartstopper

Netflix has commissioned a live-action series based on Heartstopper.

Created by Alice Oseman, Heartstopper started out as a webcomic in 2016 and has gone on to be released as graphic novels. It follows Charlie and Nick, who meet at school and become friends before gradually developing a romantic relationship.

Now, Netflix is bringing the comic to the screen for an eight-part series. Produced by See-Saw Films, including Doctor Who and Daredevil director Euros Lyn, the series will be adapted by Alice for the screen.

“It was clear right away that Alice not only had created these brilliant and emotionally engaging characters, but the world they populated was relatable yet somehow aspirational. The whole thing is just so poignant and beautifully crafted. To tell a love story between two boys who meet at school involves such vision and creative focus, Alice has absolutely delivered this here,” said Alexi Wheeler, Netflix’s Director, Kids & Family Content.

“When we started to develop the project we collectively decided that Alice had such a clear vision that it would make sense for her to adapt and write the episodes herself; this has paid dividends and we are confident that the 8 episodes we have commissioned will live up to the expectations of existing fans while also engaging a new audience.”

“I am so proud to be championing Charlie and Nick’s story. We care deeply that all young people see themselves reflected in our content, and are hopeful that many people, whatever their age or identity, will see themselves in this bold and uplifting series,” Wheeler added.

‘Harry Potter’ TV Series in Early Development at HBO Max

A “Harry Potter” series is in very early development at HBO Max, Variety has learned from sources.

Rumors that a show set within the wizarding world have persisted for some time. Now it seems those plans are moving ahead. Though no writers or talent are currently attached to the project, sources say conversations have taken place with multiple writers on the potential series. There is no word yet on what the focus of the show would be or what part of the “Harry Potter” timeline it would focus on should it move ahead.

“There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform,” Warner Bros. and HBO Max said in a statement to Variety, though multiple sources have confirmed that the project is in the very early stages.

Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser to Star in Apple Series Adaptation of ‘In With the Devil’

Apple is nearing an order for the limited series “In with the Devil,” with Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser onboard to star, Variety has learned.

The six-episode series would be based on the 2010 novel “In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption” by James Keene and Hillel Levin. The book tells the story of Keene’s real life when he was sentenced to prison but offered his freedom in exchange for coaxing a confession out of a fellow inmate, a suspected serial killer.

The series is described as being told through the lens of an intimate relationship between two prisoners, exploring the lengths that people will go to in order to seek redemption, if true absolution is ever really possible, and if so, at what costs. Egerton would star in the Keene role.

‘Serial’ Season 3 to Be Developed as HBO Limited Series, LeBron James to Executive Produce

HBO is developing the third season of the hit podcast “Serial” as a limited series, with LeBron James onboard the project as an executive producer.

The potential series will examine the criminal justice system at work in Cleveland, Ohio. Following a young cop and the man he’s accused of beating, it dives into the inner workings of a middle-American courthouse and how the system impacts every person it touches: cop, lawyer, and citizens accused of and victimized by crimes.

Shola Amoo is attached to write, direct, and executive produce. James will executive produce under his SpringHill Company banner along with Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, and Eric Oberland. Sarah Koenig, Emmanuel Dzotsi, and Alissa Shipp of Serial Productions will also executive produce alongside Kary Antholis for Crime Story Media, LLC.

Should the project go to series, it would not be the first time that “Serial” has been brought to HBO. The premium cabler previously aired the docuseries “The Case Against Adnan Syed” in March 2019. Syed’s case was the subject of the podcast’s first season.

Netflix Expands its Growing Anime Repertoire With ‘Skull Island’ and ‘Tomb Raider’ Adaptations

While King Kong and Lara Croft may be big-screen staples, the trailblazing Monsterverse titan and the cult-favorite, bow-and-arrow toting heroine of Legendary Entertainment and Square Enix’s respective franchises have never been adapted for a modern anime series — until now.

Netflix and Legendary Television are expanding the globally famed universes of Legendary’s “Skull Island” and Square Enix’s “Tomb Raider” for two new Japanese style animation shows. As previously announced in Nov. 2018, Netflix and Legendary Entertainment are also currently in production for another anime featuring kaiju, the mecha and cyborg series “Pacific Rim: The Black,” based on the Legendary Pictures production and Guillermo del Toro-directed 2013 film “Pacific Rim.”

Legendary’s cinematic Monsterverse started in 2014 with “Godzilla,” and continued with 2017’s “Kong: Skull Island,” 2019’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” and the forthcoming “Godzilla vs. Kong” in March 2021. The streaming platform’s “Skull Island” adventure anime will become a new epic chapter in the overall Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise. The plot follows shipwrecked characters desperate to survive the most dangerous place on Earth, the island that is home to colossal monsters, including the iconic “megaprimatus” Kong. “Skull Island” is set to be executive produced and written by Brian Duffield (“Underwater,” “The Babysitter”) and executive produced by Jacob Robinson under his company “Tractor Pants.” Powerhouse Animation, the studio behind Netflix’s highly-acclaimed “Castlevania” and “Blood of Zeus,” is attached to the project.

think agent coulson posted about a zorro production a couple of weeks ago , seems to be different one on the way too

‘Zorro’ Reboot Series in the Works From Secuoya Studios, John Gertz
Los Angeles-based Secuoya Studios is developing a new series version of “El Zorro” in collaboration with John Gertz, founder of Zorro Productions and a producer on “The Mask of Zorro” and “The Legend of Zorro” movies titles, former Sony execs Andy Kaplan and Jesús Torres. Secuoya Studios will be the lead producer.

“This is one of the biggest IPs, not only in the Spanish-speaking territories, but the world,” said David Martínez, Secuoya director of fiction, adding that the new version will update the franchise’s characters with reference to modern times and include a “large female presence.” Scripts, by Spain’s Carlos Portela (“Velvet Collection”), are completed.

“El Zorro” marks the banner project at Secuoya Studios, which was introduced to investors at an online presentation Thursday hosted by James Costos, the company’s L.A-based president.

Other series projects in development at the production house include “The School of Americas,” based on the novel by Lesley Gill; and a project with “Closer” creator James Duff and “Underworld” star Kevin Grevioux, based on a soon-to-be published comic-book by Grevioux about a LatinX woman super hero.

U.K. Phone Hacking Scandal Will Be Focus of New Drama Series ‘Thank You & Goodbye’

The story behind the U.K.’s notorious phone hacking scandal is coming to the small screen.

Director Saul Dibb and writer Luke Neal are developing a multi-part series entitled “Thank You & Goodbye,” which will detail the fall of the world’s oldest Sunday newspaper, Rupert Murdoch’s News of the World.

Dibb is the BAFTA-nominated director of BBC drama “The Salisbury Poisonings,” while Neal wrote ITV drama “Des.” Rise Films’ Teddy Leifer is executive producing the series.

The scandal, which was recently featured in BBC documentary “The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty,” first broke when it was revealed that a private investigator hired by the paper had hacked the voicemail of Milly Dowler, a murdered 13-year-old schoolgirl. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of over 100 people, the imprisonment of Downing Street’s director of communications, the resignation of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, an unprecedented public inquiry into the ethical practices of the British press and, ultimately, the closure of the one of the world’s oldest and most popular newspapers.

Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto have signed on to star in Apple’s scripted WeWork project, which has been ordered to series at the streamer.

The series is titled “WeCrashed,” based on the Wondery podcast of the same name. It is described as following the greed-filled rise and inevitable fall of WeWork, one of the world’s most valuable startups, and the narcissists whose chaotic love made it all possible.

Hathaway and Leto are both Oscar winners. Hathaway won the award for best supporting actress for her role in the 2012 film version of “Les Misérables,” while Leto won for best supporting actor for the 2013 drama “Dallas Buyers Club.” Both will serve as executive producers on “WeCrashed” in addition to starring.

Wonder Years’ Reboot Among Three ABC Comedy Pilot Orders

ABC has picked up three comedy pilots for the 2021 pilot season.

Two of the pilots — a reboot of “The Wonder Years” and “Maggie” — are single-cams and will be produced by 20th Television. The third, an untitled multi-cam from Regina Hicks, is produced by ABC Signature.

The “Wonder Years” reboot was originally announced as being in development back in July. It will show how a black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama in the turbulent late 1960s, made sure it was The Wonder Years for them too. The series hails from writer and executive producer Saladin Patterson with Lee Daniels and Marc Velez of Lee Daniels Entertainment also executive producing. “Wonder Years” star Fred Savage will direct the pilot and executive produce. Neal Marlens, the original show’s creator, will serve as consultant.

“Maggie” is written by Maggie Mull and Justin Adler, with both also executive producing. Evan Hayes will also executive produce. In the show, a young woman tries to cope with life while coming to terms with her abilities as a psychic. She can see everyone’s future, but her present is a mess. It is based on the short film of the same name by Tim Curcio

Hicks is the writer and producer of the multi-cam project. Viola Davis and Julius Tennon will executive produce via JuVee Productions, with Larry Wilmore supervising and executive producing via Wilmore Films. The show follows three former sorority sisters who lost touch after college and reunite during a pivotal point in their lives. They realize sometimes it’s okay to crack and when you do, no one will be there for you like your friends.

The three comedy orders join two recently announced drama pilot pickups at ABC — “Queens” and “Epic.” It was announced in November that ABC had given a series pickup to an untitled multi-cam comedy starring Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer that hails from “Modern Family” co-creator Chris Lloyd and executive producer Vali Chandrasekaran.

‘Kate and Allie’ Reboot Gets Put Pilot Order at NBC

NBC has given a put pilot order to a reboot of the classic sitcom “Kate and Allie.”

The updated series hails from writer and executive producer Erica Oyama. It follows two best friends raising their kids together in one household. They are like sister wives, only they don’t have to pretend to love the same man with bad hair. Through their unconventional arrangement, the two prove romance isn’t necessary to be a successful woman and mother.
