As RTE's head of sport, Declan McBennett has done more in his around 7 months in his new job, than his predecessor Ryle Nugent did for 10 + years while at the Donnybrook based national broadcaster. Mr. Nugent was more concerned about keeping costs low in his department, while losing the likes of English football highlights, Six Nations Rugby etc under his stewardship. Less Champions League football also was a feature in Nugent's disastrous time as RTE head of Sport.

McBennett who comes from a GAA background in the North, has already secured some rights of the Rugby World Cup and now this deal for increased free to air GAA coverage for RTE. Fair play to Mr. McBennett. A good day for the GAA I feel.

So RTE are showing the same Saturday night games as EIR? Strange by EIR, will anyone watch it there if its on RTE at same time?
Thought a different option of the games on Sunday would have been a better move with TG4 still getting first pick

I was looking at that I think from what I read rte have only 4 Saturday night games which will be on eir at the same time .

So it’s 4 Saturday night league games and 2 club games per weekend from September? Good news and even greater news TG4 haven’t been squeezed out, they have done Trojan work in the last 15 or so years, it would’ve been sad to see them leave. Shame the number of championship games haven’t been increased given the new formats but hey ho. The more GAA and live sport on FTA the better. Declan seems to be better at his job than Ryle!

My take was that rte have only 4 league games in total.

Eir usually have circa 13-15 Saturday matches a year. My understanding is that RTÉ can pick 4 of these to broadcast as well

I'd be fairly pissed off if I subscribed for Eir Sport just for the GAA games

Obv for RTE/Eir It's a lot of Dublin Croke Park games with 1/2 other games. Will they be doing the 2018/19 AI Club semi/finals

The Club deal only runs from September to November so I wouldn’t think so

Eir must be feeling the pinch that they are allowing rte a share of the games.

Top class punditry? Need to first get rid of Pat and Joe for that to happen. Their gimmicks are well worn out at this stage.

Eir seem to be stepping away from being a tv content creator. Sky are taking over the BT sports channels from August, so they will no longer be in the eirsports pack. I’d expect an announcement on Pro14 rugby leaving them before next season.

I am one of the clowns that went with eir broadband solely so i could get the national league . I have regretted every day since

Any idea what are the four matches that rte will show simultaneously to eir? Will it be their choice of Saturday evening matches or will eir dictate to them which matches they get to show?

    Not necessarily.

Like Setanta they can presumably show one on the pay channel (Extra) and the other on the one you get free with most cable packages.

Never realised there were 2 different eir sport 1 channels
Thats gonna be pretty confusing/annoying for people unless they clairify what match is on each particular channel version

I have the one that shows old games but not the premium extra as far as I know.

As far as I know, there's an eir sport, eir sport 1 and eir sport 2.There could also be an eir sport *extra*.

Follow @gaaleaguetables on Twitter or go to https://www.gaaleaguetables.ie/tv-coverage.

Will be updated as soon as RTE confirm their schedule and TG4 also need to confirm which games they'll be covering from Round 4 and beyond.

There is, but I think one of them just shows what is on Eir an hour later the same way that RTE + is what is on RTE, just an hour later.

    RTE are showing

    Limerick v Tipp 2/2 NHL
    Kerry v Dublin 9/2 NFL
    Cork v Clare 16/2 NHL
    TBA 16/3

Kerry host Mayo on 16/3 and Dublin host Tyrone also that night so I'd imagine it would be one of them.
